Genes and proteins expressed at different life cycle stages in the model protist Euplotes vannus revealed by both transcriptomic and proteomic approaches

Sexual reproduction first appeared in unicellular protists and has continued to be an essential biological process in almost all *** protists, which contain both germline and somatic genomes within a single cell, have evolved a special form of sexual reproduction called conjugation that involves mitosis, meiosis, fertilization, nuclear differentiation, genome rearrangement, and the development of unique cellular structures. The molecular basis and mechanisms of conjugation vary dramatically among ciliates, and many details of the process and its regulation are still largely unknown. In order to better comprehend these processes and mechanisms from an evolutionary perspective, this study provides the first comprehensive overview of the transcriptome and proteome profiles during the entire life cycle of the newly-established marine model ciliate Euplotes vannus. Transcriptome analyses from 14 life cycle stages(three vegetative stages and 11 sexual stages) revealed over 26,000 genes that are specifically expressed at different stages, many of which are related to DNA replication,transcription, translation, mitosis, meiosis, nuclear differentiation, and/or genome rearrangement. Quantitative proteomic analyses identified 338 proteins with homologs associated with conjugation and/or somatic nuclear development in other ciliates, including dicer-like proteins, Hsp90 proteins, RNA polymerase Ⅱ and transcription elongation factors, ribosomal-associated proteins, and ubiquitin-related proteins. Four of these homologs belong to the PIWI family, each with different expression patterns identified and confirmed by RT-qPCR,which may function in small RNA-mediated genome rearrangement. Proteins involved in the nonhomologous end-joining pathway are induced early during meiosis and accumulate in the developing new somatic nucleus, where more than 80% of the germline sequences are eliminated from the somatic genome. Effect of pH on Crystal Size and Photoluminescence Property of ZnO Nanoparticles Prepared by Chemical Precipitation Method

The present investigation focuses on the thermal performance of a fully wet stretching/shrinking longitudinal fin of exponential profile coated with a mechanism like a conveyer *** modeled equation is non-dimensionalized and solved by applying the Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg(RKF)*** effects of parameters such as the wet parameter,the fin shape parameter,and the stretching/shrinking parameter on the heat transfer and thermal characteristics of the fin are graphically analyzed and *** is inferred that the negative effects of motion and internal heat generation on the fin heat transfer rate can be lessened by setting a shrinking mechanism on the fin *** current examination is inclined towards practical applications and is beneficial to the design of fins.

Protection of cadmium chloride induced DNA damage by Lamiaceae plants

Objective:To analyze the total phenolic content,DNA protecting and radical scavenging activity of ethanolic leaf extracts of three Lamiaceae plants,*** malabarica(***),Leucas aspera(***)and Ocimum basilicum(***).Methods:The total polyphenols and flavonoids were analyzed in the ethanolic leaf extracts of the lamiaceae *** determine the DNA protecting activity,various concentrations of the plant extracts were prepared and treated on cultured Hepg2 human lung cancer *** pretreated cells were exposed to H_2O_2to induce DNA damage through oxidative *** assay was done and the tail length of individual comets was *** oxide and superoxide anion scavenging activities of lamiaceae plants were ***:Among the three plant extracts,the highest amount of total phenolic content was found in ***(189.33 mg/g),whereas *** showed high levels of flavonoids(10.66 mg/g).*** also showed high levels of DNA protecting(85%)and radical scavenging ***:The results of this study shows that bioactive phenols present in lamiaceae plants may prevent carcinogenesis through scavenging free radicals and inhibiting DNA damage.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy of Atalantia monophylla(***)leaf in different solvent crude extracts and fractions against eggs of Spodoptera litura(***).Methods:Hexane,ethyl acetate and chloroform solvent extracts of *** leaf and 12 fractions from hexane extract were screened at 5.0%t,2.5%,1.0%and 0.5%for crude extracts and 1000,500,250 and 125 mg/kg for fractions against the eggs of *** for the ovicidal ***_(50)and LC_(90)were calculated using probit ***:Hexane crude extract showed maximum ovicidal activity of 61.94%at 5.0%concentration with a correlation value of r^2=0.81,and least LC_(50)value of3.06%.Hexane extract was fractionated using silica gel column chromatography and 12 fractions were *** 9 was active which showed maximum ovicidal activity of 75.61%at 1000mg/kg with the LC_(50)value of 318.65 mg/kg and LC_(90)value of 1473.31 mg/*** linear regression analysis,significant and high correlation(r^2=0.81%)was seen between concentration and ovicidal activity of hexane crude extracts and its active ***:As per our knowledge,this is the first report for ovicidal activity of *** against ***,*** could be used for the management of *** and other insect pests.

A review on the spot-billed pelican Pelecanus philippensis literature

Literature on spot-billed pelican has not been reviewed lately which could provide a critique of the emerging data. We have now chosen it as a key species through which we suggest a conservation action plan which will benefit several waterbird species. The information provided here is scholastic in nature and is meant to focus on aspects that require attention and help plan future work for applied conservation. All known information on this species is brought together in this review which will also provide an update of its biology. Notes on the breeding biology of the species first published in the Journal of the Bombay Natural History Society. So far, 380 works have appeared on the species; of these, 36 contain material reported in earlier works or appeared as papers subsequently. Most appeared as articles in journals, both national and regional, a few international journals, newsletters/bulletins （48.2%）, 4 dissertations, 76 reports and 6 popular science articles in magazines. This review on the species will provide an insight into different factors that can be weighed and combined while making a decision in investing resources in species conservation, i.e. importance of the species, level of threat and the time frame over which results are to be achieved.

Effect of Fuel to Oxidant Molar Ratio on Structural and DC Electrical Conductivity of ZnO Nanoparticles Prepared by Simple Solution Combustion Method

ZnO nanoparticles of different sizes were prepared by varying the molar ratio of glycine and zinc nitrate hexahydrate as fuel and oxidizer （0.1, 0.8, 1.11, 1.3, 1.5, 1.7, 2.0） by simple solution combustion method. UV-Visible spectrophotometry studies show that, the band gap of the prepared ZnO nanoparticles increases with increasing fuel to oxidant （F/O） molar ratio up to 1.7 revealing the formation of ZnO nanoparticles. The decrease in band gap for the sample of F/O molar ratio 2.0 is due to an increase in particle size. Powder X-ray diffraction patterns of the prepared samples show the formation of single phase ZnO nanoparticles and the particle size decreases with increasing F/O molar ratio up to 1.7. Surface morphology of the prepared samples was studied by scanning electron microscopy and it was observed that, the porosity increases with increasing F/O molar ratio. DC electrical conductivity at room temperature and in the temperature range of 303-563 K was studied for all the samples and the results revealed that, the sample of F/O molar ratio 1.7 has low electrical conductivity at room temperature and high EAR （high temperature activation energy） compared to other samples.

Antimicrobial ability and growth promoting effects of feed supplemented with probiotic bacterium isolated from gut microflora of Cirrhinus mrigala

The present studies were conducted to isolate, select, identify and characterize gut bacteria as antimicrobial and growth promoting agent for the feed of economically important fish Cirrhinus mrigala. Intestinal microflora were isolated, counted, and identified, and their in vitro antibacterial properties were determined. The results have revealed that occurrence of Gram-negative rods was around 75% and of Gram-positive rods was 25%. Among the isolates Gram-positive were maintained in nutrient agar slants at 4℃. Of these, eight strains were replica-plated on agar seeded with Aeromonas hydrophila and only one strain CM2（C. mrigala 2） exhibited antibacterial properties in vitro showing inhibition against fish pathogen by well diffusion assay. This isolated strain was identified as Bacillus cereus. This bacterium was mass cultured and incorporated in the pelleted diet（40% protein and 18 k J g^–1 gross energy） of C. mrigala to investigate its effect on growth performance, digestibility, nutrient retention and activities of digestive enzymes. The results of feeding trial revealed significantly（P〈0.05） high growth performance in terms of specific growth rate, growth percent gain in body weight（BD）（272.4±1.5）%, high apparent protein digestibility（（79.9±0.30）%） and low food conversion ratio in the group of fishes fed on diet containing B. cereus in comparison to the fishes fed on diet without probiotics. The carcass composition also revealed high accumulation of proteins（（15.28±0.15） g 100 g^–1） in fishes fed on diet containing probiotics. Intestinal enzyme activities of protease, amylase and cellulase were also significantly（P〈0.05） high in the group of fishes fed on diet supplemented with probiotics indicating the extracellular enzyme production by B. cereus. These results indicate that probiotics stimulate the digestion through the supply of digestive enzyme and certain essential nutrients to animals.
