Quality of life(QoL) is a vital and often required health outcome measure that is relevant to patient care. A healthy oral cavity enables person to perform daily activities without any limitations. However, any disturbance may result in impaired QoL. The oral health-remains an essential element of people's health and well-being. In recent years, the tradition of clinical practice and research has been changed by incorporating QoL assessment, as it helps in assessment of patients' needs and monitoring treatment responses. oral potentially malignant disorders(OPMDs) are a group of chronic disorders including oral leukoplakia(OL), oral lichen planus and oral submucous fibrosis(OSF). It is evident that patients with OPMDs experience significant health-related symptoms, functional limitations and psycho-social impairment, compromising their Qo L. Moreover, the worsening of Qo L has been associated with advanced stages of OPMDs. Despite of increasing number of OPMD cases in recent decades, limited literature is available regarding QoL in this population. Although, there is higher prevalence of habit-related OPMDs, particularly OSF and OL in Southern Asian countries, only a few studies have been performed in these populations. Moreover, these studies administered generic Qo L instruments, which offer less sensitivity to clinical changes. However, condition-specific instruments are more sensitive and allows better measurement of QoL. As the impacts of different conditions on OHRQoL may vary, the development and validation of a QoL instrument specific to each clinical entity of OPMDs is currently needed.

Previous studies have demonstrated that spheroid type cells grown under suspension culture conditions have cancer stem cell（CSC） traits in a number of cancers, but this phenomenon has not yet been reported in the VX2 rabbit oral cancer model. Hence, this study aimed to study the spheroid cells from VX2 rabbit buccal squamous cell carcinomas（SCCs） and assess their CSC characteristics. Five adult male New Zealand white outbred rabbits were used to generate VX2 rabbit buccal SCC. Sphere-forming cell culture was performed for the VX2 rabbit buccal SCC specimens. The self-renewal capability; cluster of designation（CD） 44, CD133, acetaldehyde dehydrogenase 1（ALDH1）, B cell-specific Moloney murine leukemia virus integration site 1（Bmi-1）, Nestin, octamer-binding transcription factor 4（Oct4）and reduced expression protein-1（Rex-1） expression with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction（RT-PCR）; chemoresistance to cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil; and in vivo tumorigenicity of spheroid cell transplantation in nude mice were evaluated to determine the CSC characteristics of the resulting spheroid cells. We successfully obtained spheroid cells from the VX2 rabbit OSCC tissues. The spheroid cells exhibited CSC traits, including the expression of CSC and stem cell markers（CD44, Bmi-1, Nestin, Oct4 and Rex-1）, capacity to generate new spheroid colonies within 1 week of reseeding from single-dissociated spheroid cells, chemoresistance capacity and generation of tumour xenografts（with histological features resembling those of the original VX2 rabbit buccal SCC） from the transplantation of 103 undifferentiated spheroid cells into nude mice. In summary, we demonstrated that spheroid cells with CSC cell traits can be derived from VX2 rabbit buccal SCCs, indicating that this animal cancer model is applicable for studying CSCs in human oral cancers.

Tumorigenicity-inhibiting compounds have been identifled in our daily *** example,isothiocyanates(ITCs)found in cruciferous vegetables were reported to have potent cancer=prevention *** best characterized ITC is sulforaphane(SF).SF can simultaneously modulate multiple cellular targets involved in carcinogenesis,including(1)modulating carcinogen-metabolizing enzymes and blocking the action of mutagens;(2)inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis;and(3)inhibition of neo-angiogenesis and *** targets cancer stem cells through modulation of nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB),Sonic hedgehog(SHH),epithelial-mesenchymal transition,and Wnt/βcatenin *** chemotherapy/SF combination was tested in several studies and resulted in favorable *** its favorable toxicological profile,SF is a promising agent in cancer prevention and/or *** this article,we discuss the human metabolism of SF and its effects on cancer prevention,treatment,and targeting cancer stem cells,as well as providing a brief review of recent human clinical trials on SF.

Granular cell ameloblastoma is a rare,benign neoplasm of the odontogenic epithelium.A case of massive granular cell ameloblastoma in a 44-year-old Thai female is *** features displayed a follicular type of ameloblastoma with an accumulation of granular cells residing within the tumor *** treatment by partial mandibulectomy,the patient showed a good prognosis without recurrence in a 2-year *** characterize the granular cells in ameloblastoma,we examined the expression of basement membrane（BM） proteins,including collagen type IV,laminins 1 and 5 and fibronectin using *** for the granular cells,the tumor cells demonstrated a similar expression of BM proteins compared to follicular and plexiform ameloblastomas in our previous study,whereas the granular cells showed strong positivity to laminins 1 and 5 and *** increased fibronectin expression in granular cells suggests a possibility of age-related transformation of granular cells in ameloblastoma.
