All animals possess a plethora of innate behaviors that do not require extensive learning and are fundamental for their survival and *** the advent of newly-developed techniques such as viral tracing and optogenetic and chemogenetic tools,recent studies are gradually unraveling neural circuits underlying different innate ***,we summarize current development in our understanding of the neural circuits controlling predation,feeding,male-typical mating,and urination,highlighting the role of genetically defined neurons and their connections in sensory triggering,sensory to motor/motivation transformation,motor/motivation encoding during these different *** the way,we discuss possible mechanisms underlying binge-eating disorder and the pro-social effects of the neuropeptide oxytocin,elucidating the clinical relevance of studying neural circuits underlying essential innate ***,we discuss some exciting brain structures recurrently appearing in the regulation of different behaviors,which suggests both divergence and convergence in the neural encoding of specific innate *** forward,we emphasize the importance of multi-angle and cross-species dissections in delineating neural circuits that control innate behaviors.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD)is a chronic disabling disease with often unsatisfactory therapeutic *** fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders(DSM-5)has broadened the diagnostic criteria for OCD,acknowledging that some OCD patients may lack insight into their *** studies have demonstrated that insight can impact therapeutic efficacy and prognosis,underscoring its importance in the treatment of mental disorders,including *** recent years,there has been a growing interest in understanding the influence of insight on mental disorders,leading to advancements in related ***,to the best of our knowledge,there is dearth of comprehensive reviews on the topic of insight in *** this review article,we aim to fill this gap by providing a concise overview of the concept of insight and its multifaceted role in clinical characteristics,neuroimaging mechanisms,and treatment for OCD.

How to deal with severe spinal cord injuries(SCI)?This question remains an everlasting challenge for *** innovative therapies such as neuromodulation,which targets the surviving tissue,have shown the potential to restore cognitive functions in patients with severe SCI after rehabilitation[1,2].These therapies might enable SCI patients to sustain active movements during rehabilitation training to enhance the reorganization of the neuronal pathways,however,the complete recovery of body movement functions was still not reached with these therapies.A characteristic feature of SCI is the impairment of neural information communication between the neurons in the spinal cord and the brain,which are responsible for regulating body ***-computer interfaces(BCIs)have been successfully applied in dealing with movement dysfunction by establishing a direct connection between brain cortical activity and electrical muscle stimulation,thereby restoring limb function in cases of paralysis[2].

Local signaling events at synapses or axon terminals are communicated to the nucleus to elicit transcriptional responses,and thereby translate information about the external environment into internal neuronal *** retrograde signaling is critical to dendritic growth,synapse development,and neuronal ***,we demonstrate that neuronal activity induces retrograde translocation and nuclear accumulation of endosomal adaptor *** the interaction of APPL1 with Importin ocl abolishes nuclear accumulation of APPL1,which in turn decreases the levels of histone *** further demonstrate that retrograde translocation of APPL1 is required for the regulation of gene transcription and then maintenance of hippocampal late-phase long-term ***,these results illustrate an APPLl-mediated pathway that contributes to the modulation of synaptic plasticity via coupling neuronal activity with chromatin remodeling.

To the Editor:Cockayne syndrome(CS;Mendelian Inheritance in Man#133540,216400)is a rare autosomal recessive neurodegenerative disorder described by Edward Cockayne in 1936.[1]The prevalence of CS is 2.7 per million live births,[2]and the disease is probably *** major clinical features are progressive growth failure and microcephaly as well as other characteristics such as a“cachectic dwarfism”appearance with sunken eyes,cutaneous photosensitivity,mental retardation,demyelinating peripheral neuropathy,pigmentary retinopathy,cataracts,deafness,dental anomalies,and premature death.[1,3]There is considerable variation in the severity of the disorder,leading to classification into three main types.

Radiation therapy is considered the most effective non-surgical treatment for brain ***,there are no available treatments for radiation-induced brain ***(BDMC)is a demethoxy derivative of curcumin that has anti-proliferative,anti-inflammatory,and anti-oxidant *** determine whether BDMC has the potential to treat radiation-induced brain injury,in this study,we established a rat model of radiation-induced brain injury by administe ring a single 30-Gy vertical dose of irradiation to the whole brain,followed by intraperitoneal injection of 500μL of a 100 mg/kg BDMC solution every day for 5 successive *** res ults showed that BDMC increased the body weight of rats with radiation-induced brain injury,improved lea rning and memory,attenuated brain edema,inhibited astrocyte activation,and reduced oxidative *** findings suggest that BDMC protects against radiationinduced brain injury.

A visualization pipeline for in vivo two-photon volumetric astrocytic calcium imaging

Astrocytes,the multi-functional glial cells with the most abundant population in the brain,integrate information across their territories to regulate neuronal synaptic and cerebrovascular *** calcium(Ca^(2+))signaling is the major readout of cellular functional state of *** conventional two-photon in vivo imaging usually focuses on a single horizontal focal plane to capture the astrocytic Ca^(2+)signals,which leaves>80%spatial information *** fully probe the Ca^(2+)activity across the whole astrocytic territory,we developed a pipeline for imaging and visualizing volumetric astrocytic Ca^(2+)time-lapse *** the pipeline,we discovered a new signal distribution pattern from three-dimensional(3D)astrocytic Ca^(2+)imaging data of mice under isoflurane anesthetic *** tools developed in this study enable a better understanding of the spatiotemporal patterns of astrocytic activity in 3D space.

Anxiolytic Effect of Increased NREM Sleep after Acute Social Defeat Stress in Mice

Social defeat stress(SDS)plays a major role in the pathogenesis of psychiatric disorders like anxiety and *** is generally considered to involve recovery of the brain from prior experience during wakefulness and is altered after acute ***,the effect of acute SDS on sleep/wake behavior in mice varies between *** addition,whether sleep changes in response to stress contribute to anxiety is not well ***,we first investigated the effects of acute SDS on sleep/wake states in the active period in *** results showed that total sleep time(time in rapid eyemovement[REM]and non-REM[NREM]sleep)increased in the active period after acute *** sleep increased mainly during the first 3 h after SDS,while REM sleep increased at a later ***,we demonstrated that the increased NREM sleep had an anxiolytic benefit in acute *** deprived of sleep for 1 h or 3 h after acute SDS remained in a highly anxious state,while in mice with ad libitum sleep the anxiety rapidly faded ***,our findings suggest an anxiolytic effect of NREM sleep,and indicate a potential therapeutic strategy for anxiety.
