Trans-scale surface wrinkling model and scaling relationship analysis of stiff film-compliant substrate structures

The self-assembly of surface-order structures based on the surface wrinkling of stiff film-compliant substrate structures(SFCS)is potentially useful in the fabrication of functional devices,the manufacture of superhydrophobic or self-cleaning surfaces,and so *** to the influence of the intrinsic characteristic length(g),the surface wrinkling behavior of SFCS at the micro scale is different from that at the macro *** this work,based on the strain gradient theory,a trans-scale surface wrinkling model for SFCS is ***,the effectiveness of this model is verified by previous ***,based on the model and dimensional analysis,the effect of g on the surface wrinkling behavior is investigated,and the scaling relationship of surface wrinkling of SFCS at different scales is *** results show that the influence of g cannot be neglected when the film thickness decreases to the one comparable to *** the micro scale,g will lead to the increase of the critical wrinkling wavelength and *** addition,the scaling relationship of surface wrinkling at the micro scale will not follow the traditional *** study explains the underlying mechanism of the dissimilarity of surface wrinkling behaviors of SFCS at different scales and lays a theoretical foundation for the precise control of surface-order structures.

Investigating the Head Impact Force-Induced Evolution of Hyperphosphorylated Tau Proteins in Brain Tissue Through Mechanical Mesoscale Finite Element Simulation

For human heads that experienced repetitive subconcussive impacts,abnormal accumulation of hyperphosphorylated tau(p-tau)proteins was found in the postmortem brain *** numerically understand the cause–effect relationship between the external force and the microscopic volume change of the p-tau protein,we created a mesoscale finite element model of the multilayer brain tissue containing microscopic voids representing the p-tau *** model was applied under the loading boundary conditions obtained from a larger length scale simulation.A formerly developed internal state variable elastoplasticity model was implemented to describe the constitutive behaviors of gray and white matters,while the cerebrospinal fluid was assumed to be purely *** effects of the initial sizes and distances of p-tau proteins located at four different brain regions(frontal,parietal,temporal and occipital lobes)on their volumetric evolutions were *** is concluded that both the initial sizes and distances of the proteins have more or less(depending on the specific brain region)influential effects on the growth or contraction rate of the p-tau *** p-tau proteins located within the brain tissue at the frontal and occipital lobes are more heavily affected by the frontal impact load compared with those at the parietal and temporal *** summary,the modeling approach presented in this paper provides a strategy for mechanically studying the evolution of p-tau proteins in the brain tissue and gives insight into understanding the correlation between macroscopic force and microstructure change of the brain tissue.

Reliability Analysis of Reinforcement Based on GM(1,1)-Markov Semi-immersion Test

To investigate the corrosion degradation law and service life of reinforced concrete in various salt solution environments,reinforced concrete specimens were semi-immersed in 3%Na_(2)CO_(3)(N3-0-0),3%Na_(2)CO_(3)+3%NaCl(N3-Cl3-0)and 3%Na_(2)CO_(3)+3%NaCl+3%Na_(2)SO_(4)(N3-Cl3-S3)salt *** electrochemical workstation was used for regular non-destructive testing,and the polarization curve and related electrochemical parameters were used as the macroscopic durability evaluation indicators,while microscopic analysis of steel bar corrosion products was performed in combination with SEM and *** addition,the corrosion current density degradation model of GM(1,1)was established and compared with the modified GM(1,1)-Markov degradation *** results showed that the prediction error of the GM(1,1)-Markov model was smaller and more accurate than that of GM(1,1).The reinforced concrete specimens in the N3-0-0,N3-Cl3-0 and N3-Cl3-S3 solutions reached the failure state in 3.08,1.67,and 2.30 years,respectively,as predicted by the GM(1,1)-Markov *** to ESM and EDS microscopic analysis of reinforcement,carbonate had no significant effect on reinforcement corrosion,chloride ions played a dominant role in reinforcement corrosion,and sulfate ion improved concrete's resistance to chloride ion *** on GM(1,1)-Markov model,the failure and damage of reinforced concrete in saline soil areas can be quantitatively evaluated in the whole life cycle,which provides a theoretical basis for the early maintenance or reinforcing of reinforced concrete.
