Optimization Study of Active-Passive Heating system Parameters in Village Houses in the Southern Xinjiang Province

Aiming at the problems of large energy consumption and serious pollution of winter heating existing in the rural buildings in Southern Xinjiang,a combined active-passive heating system was proposed,and the simulation software was used to optimize the parameters of the system,according to the parameters obtained from the optimization,a test platform was built and winter heating test was carried *** simulation results showed that the thickness of the air layer of 75 mm,the total area of the vent holes of 0.24 m^(2),and the thickness of the insulation layer of 120 mm were the optimal construction for the passive part;solar collector area of 28 m^(2),hot water storage tank volume of 1.4 m^(3),mass flow rate of 800 kg/h on the collector side,mass flow rate of 400 kg/h on the heat exchanger side,and output power of auxiliary heat source of 5∼9 kWwere the optimal constructions for active heating *** results showed that during the heating period,the system could provide sufficient heat to the room under different heating modes,and the indoor temperature reached over 18°C,which met the heating *** economic and environmental benefits of the system were analyzed,and the economic benefits of the systemwere better than coal-fired heating,and the CO_(2) emissionswere reduced by 3,292.25 kg compared with *** results of the study showed that the combinedactive-passiveheating systemcouldeffectively solve the heating problems existing in rural buildings in Southern Xinjiang,and it also laid the theoretical foundation for the popularization of the combined heating systems.

Adjuvant postbiotic administration improves dental caries prognosis by restoring the oral microbiota

Conventional filling therapy fails to fundamentally reduce oral cariogenic ***,oral microbiota follow-up intervention after filling would be necessary for improving dental caries *** recruited 9 caries-free individuals,and 89 dental caries subjects(5 dropouts).Eighty-nine patients were randomized into three groups:caries(n=8;no treatment),control(n=40;filling),and postbiotics(n=41;filling and 14-day Probio-Eco®intervention).Salivary samples were collected at 0 day(after filling)and 14 *** results showed that the diversity of dental caries oral microbiota was significantly increased compared with healthy subjects,and filling could restore a healthier oral microbiota partially and *** intervention keeps a low ***-occurrence network analysis showed that a more stable oral microbiota structure after postbiotics *** and functional annotation of the microbiota revealed that postbiotics co-treatment significantly:increased the relative abundance of Pseudomonas and ***,decreased the relative abundance of Prevotella shahii,and enriched the energy metabolism-related ***-predicted phenotypes inferred to an oral microbiota with decreased potential pathogenic bacteria and increased oxidative stress-tolerant bacteria after postbiotics ***,it suggested that postbiotics co-treatment could be a promising strategy that restores the oral microecological balance for dental caries.

Solar home systems for rural electrification are often designed with a limited energy supply,which presents a drawback for the ***,uncontrolled livestock faeces in rural communities constitute environmental sanitation and health *** excrement can be used through a biogas digester to supplement solar energy to provide adequate and sustainable elec-tricity access to underserved rural communities while achieving waste ***,this study presents a hybrid solar-biogas system for a more dynamic energy supply and waste management for post-Covid recovery plans in rural communities.A parametric research approach that involves the use of the Integrated Environment Solution Virtual Environment software application and mathematical models to design the desired household load and the hybrid system sizing is used in the *** findings show that the daily household energy consumption was 6.6 kWh,equivalent to 206.40 kWh/month.A 1.2-kWp and 1.2-m^(3)hybrid solar-biogas system was found to adequately power the ***,the total initial investment cost of the system was$5777.20 with a net present value of$6566.78,net profit of$4443.6,a payback period of 14 years and 8 months,and a levelized cost of energy of$0.21/kWh;these include a 60%initial investment and maintenance costs *** performance contracting and energy-as-a-service were recommended to effectively run and operate the *** study successfully revealed the design,specifications and upscaling mechanism of the proposed hybrid solar-biogas *** research is required to unveil the efficacy of the system,the performance gap and the perception of the technology by the beneficiaries.

Constructing a Practice-Oriented Education system of Urban-rural Planning

As China's urbanization accelerates, there is an increasing demand for urban-rural planning at both national and local levels, making it become an independent fi rst-level discipline. Currently in China, the teaching and research system of urban-rural planning is facing some problems like the uneven education level among various universities, improper knowledge system that hardly meets the actual social demands, and insufficient theoretical research. This article argues that, in order to train qualif ied planners capable of satisfying socio-economic development and urbanrural construction, the teaching and research system of urban-rural planning should be practice-oriented and meet social needs. The healthy development of urban-rural planning discipline should be based on the mutual promotion of teaching and research system.

Convergence of emerging transportation trends:A comprehensive review of shared autonomous vehicles

The mobility landscape is experiencing major changes due to two emerging transportation trends,autonomous vehicles(AVs)and on-demand transportation,and the convergence of these smart mobility innovations as shared autonomous vehicles(SAVs)can considerably alter travel behavior and consequently the ecological and societal aspects of the transportation ***-demand autonomous mobility is a promising transportation mode,but further research is necessary to evaluate its various aspects and implications prior to widespread ***,this study investigates the effects of integrating automation and on-demand mobility by analyzing the effects on the environment,public transportation,land use,vehicle ownership,and public acceptance.A comprehensive literature review was performed,and through a detailed review of 210 articles,the impacts of each of these categories were determined and classified according to their causes,and the number of publications with which they were cited in the literature was *** review showed that SAVs can either positively or negatively impact categories and have the potential to minimize mobility obstacles and transportation inequity if legislators use technology to develop a better transportation system by initiating effective policies that govern the four impacted areas.A list of 22 policy recommendations designed to avoid the negative consequences of SAVs by maximizing the benefits of the technology while limiting the associated risks was also *** findings of this review will be beneficial to AV manufacturers,transportation professionals,and especially policymakers,who play an integral role in shaping how society benefits from SAV technology.

Dear Editor,Cucumber(Cucumis sativus)is a key vegetable crop and an essential model for genetics and genomics research in Cucurbitaceae,especially in studies on plant sex determination and vascular *** the first sequenced genome among vegetable crops,the cucumber reference genome has been a crucial genetic resource for comparative genomics and genetic ***,the latest version of the cucumber *** Long reference genome(CLv3.0),generated using PacBio long-reads data,is *** a predicted genome size of 350-367 Mb,CLv3.0 encompasses only 226.2 Mb,leaving 72 gaps and over 120 Mb of unknown *** low assembly completeness(approximately 62%)is primarily due to the high proportion(~30%)of heterochromatic satellite and rDNA sequences in cucumber,substantially higher than that observed in many other species such as Arabidopsis,rice,maize,and watermelon,where it is less than 5%(Han et al.,2008;Huang et al.,2009;Li et al.,2019).

The Implications of Population Decline and Fiscal Austerity on Public Nature:Insights From the Evolution of Urban Park Management system in Japan

Facing challenges of population decline and fiscal austerity,Japan has implemented a series of initiatives to promote public-private partnerships(PPP)to ensure the sustainability of urban parks and revitalize urban *** initiatives,while alleviating the government’s financial burdens on parks,have also raised concerns about the potential erosion of publicness and public interests resulted from the commercialization of public *** paper reviews the evolution of Japan’s urban park management system after World War II—including three phases of being purely public goods,initiating marketization,and diversifying management *** functions of parks have continuously enriched,and the construction,management,and operational modes have shifted from government-led towards multi-stakeholder participation,along with expanded funding *** examining the PPP types,driving forces,implementation mechanisms and challenges in urban park management,this paper points out that,in different eras and social contexts,the Japanese government has kept adjusting its role to maximize public *** has proactively updated the implications of publicness in infrastructure like urban parks,from a post-war opposite of publicness versus privateness on ownership,to the participation of private capital for a higher efficiency,and finally to a community for a stronger regional *** reforms of urban park management system in Japan offer significant lessons and insights for urban infrastructure management in other countries and regions.

Assessing the effects of long-term recreational activities on landscape changes in Abant Natural Park,Turkey

Natural, protected areas offer many possibili- ties for recreation in rural areas such as camping, one of the most popular activities. The system established for pro- tected areas in Turkey aims to provide a foundation for conserving areas for recreation. One such area, Abant Natural Park, is convenient for visits from Turkey＇s two most populated metropolitan areas, Istanbul and Ankara. It also attracts tourists from other regions and countries. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the vegetation loss and land cover changes due to picnic/camping, transhu- mance, and construction over 40 years （1966-2004） in the park using data on visitor numbers, vegetation patches, corridors and connectivity. For evaluating landscape vari- ables, remote sensing data and aerial photos were used. When aerial photos were imported into the ERDAS Imagine program, ground control points identified, and individual images orthorectified, land degradation was not found in the use of camping areas. Moreover, manmade areas （road, car park and hotel） observably increased, thus decreasing the forest lands. The findings show that the land use types that have had the greatest ecological impact are transhumance and construction of hotels, which also require infrastructure development. The intensity of the ecological effects mandates precautions to lessen the impacts and the need for continuing assessment to ensure sustainable use of the area.

Plant-based milk alleviates antibiotics-induced intestinal barrier damage associated with modulation of gut microbiome and metabolome

Plant-based milk is rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids， polyphenols and other bioactive compounds. This study investigated the effect of three plant-based milk (flaxseed milk， oat milk and soy milk) on the ceftriaxone-induced intestinal disorders， and compared the regulation patterns associated with gut microbiome and metabolome. The results showed plant-based milk alleviated the ceftriaxone caused cecum swelling， colonic tissue damage and intestinal microecological disorders. Meanwhile， administered plant-based milk decreased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokine (tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α)， interleukin (IL-6)， interleukin (IL-1β) and oxidative stresses (malondialdehyde (MDA) and myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the colon， as well as increasing the levels of tight junction proteins (Occludin， Claudin-1， and ZO-1) in the colon. Moreover， administration of plant-based milk modulated the intestinal microbiota by promoting the relative levels of beneficial bacteria (Bifidobacterium)， and inhibiting the harmful bacteria genus (Enterococcus). Furthermore， plant-based milk treatment significantly modulated glycerophospholipids metabolism (e.g. glycerophosphocholine) and arachidonic acid metabolism (e.g. prostaglandin G2 and arachidonic acid) in the serum. In conclusion， plant-based milk could alleviate antibiotic-related imbalance of barrier function damage， gut microbiota disorders and the reduction of metabolic disorders， which lays a foundation for exploring anti-inflammatory and intestinal micro-ecological approach to plant-based milk.

Optimal Design of Hybrid Microgrid in Isolated Communities of Ecuador

In rural territories, the communities use energy sources based on fossil fuels to supply themselves with electricity, which may address two main problems: greenhouse gas emissions and high fuel prices. Hence, there is an opportunity to include renewable resources in the energy mix. This paper develops an optimization model to determine the optimal sizing, the total annual investment cost in renewable generation, and other operating costs of the components of a hybrid microgrid. By running a k-means clustering algorithm on a meteorological dataset of the community under study, the hourly representative values become input parameters in the proposed optimization model. The method for the optimal design of hybrid microgrid is analyzed in six operating scenarios considering:(1) 24-hour continuous power supply;(2) load shedding percentage;(3) diesel power generator(genset) curtailment;(4) the worst meteorological conditions;(5) the use of renewable energy sources including battery energy storage systems(BESSs);and(6) the use of genset. A mathematical programming language(AMPL) tool is used to find solutions of the proposed optimization model. Results show that the total costs of microgrid in the scenarios that cover 100% of the load demand(without considering the scenario with 100% renewables) increase by over 16% compared with the scenario with genset operation limitation. For the designs with power supply restrictions, the total cost of microgrid in the scenario with load shedding is reduced by over 27% compared with that without load shedding.
