Modeling relationships between the network distance and travel time dynamics for assessing equity of accessibility to urban parks

Static models of accessibility are usually based on the fixed distance or Average Travel Time(ATT)*** of ignoring the traffic as a dynamic process affecting the accessibility through the change of Travel Time(TT),these models lead to unperceived temporal *** contrast to the consideration of the temporal Variation of TT(VTT)in the previous studies,the variation of traffic-related TT and its relations with network distance has not been *** this study,relations between VTT and network distance to access urban parks in Tehran megacity has been *** maps at five times of day are used to produce TT maps of Traffic Analysis Zones(TAZs)to their 3-closest *** of the Gini coefficients of accessibility show significant inequities of accessibility at different times of *** between the distance,ATT,and TT_(max) are modeled by statistical *** show both TT and TTmax have significant positive relations with distance and traffic and reach their maximum at 6 *** of significant relations between distance,ATT,TT_(max),and VTT provides interesting knowledge for the conversion of temporal measures of equity(TT)to a physical measure of equity(distance).A simple application of these findings for effective management of the spatiotemporal inequities is the definition of critical distances from public *** an example,to decrease the TT_(max) of TAZs to less than 12 min,their maximum distance to the closest parks should be less than 4 *** developed approach can be adopted for the accessibility evaluation of the other public services,particularly the health and education centers.

Structured study of spatial objects and their relationships leads to a better cognition of the geospatial information and creates the concept of context at a higher level of *** study is aimed at providing a comprehensive definition of the context for geospatial objects.A combination of binary qualitative spatial relationships(***,distance,and topological relations)among the members of a set of spatial objects will be used *** addition,by incorporating the general concept of context,obtained from either static data(attributes in a database)or dynamic data(sensors),the compact context of spatial objects will be *** framework for presentation of the involved knowledge and conception about the objects in context is also explored using ontology and description logic because of powerful conceptualization of relationships,either spatial or non-spatial,*** this purpose,the hierarchies of main structure and object properties are formed at *** constraint and characteristics of classes,such as subclasses,equivalent classes,cardinality etc.,and object properties,such as being functional,transitive,symmetric,asymmetric,inverse functional,disjoint etc.,are discovered and presented in more detail using web ontology language in description logic *** implementation is then performed in the framework of semantic web and extensible markup language *** method ultimately facilitates,spatial reasoning by effective querying in a semantic framework taking pellet reasoner and SPARQL(a recursive acronym for SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language).

Virtual representation and simulation of spatio-temporal phenomena is a promising goal for the production of an advanced digital *** modeling,which is one of the most helpful analyses in the geographic information system(GIS),plays a prominent role in meeting this *** study proposes a new model that considers both aspects of static and dynamic behaviors of spreadable spatio-temporal in cellular automata(CA)***,artificial intelligence tools such as adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS)and genetic algorithm(GA)were used in accordance with the objectives of knowledge discovery and *** conditions in updating states are considered so traditional CA transition rules can be accompanied with the impact of fuzzy discovered knowledge and the solution of spread *** focused on the estimation of forest fire growth as an important case study for decision makers.A two-dimensional cellular representation of the combustion of heterogeneous fuel types and density on non-flat terrain were successfully linked with dynamic wind and slope *** validation of the simulation on experimental data indicated a relatively realistic head-fire *** investigations showed that the results obtained using the dynamic controlling with GA in the absence of static modeling with ANFIS were unacceptable.

Location Based Services Acceptance and Adoption Evaluation: An Investigation on Mobile Phone Users’ Response to Awareness and Utilization of LBS Technology in Nairobi Kenya

Location Based Navigation System (LBNS) is a specific Location Based Service (LBS) purely for navigational purpose. These systems resolve position of a user by using GNSS/GPS positioning technologies, to which supplementary information on goods and services are tagged. The navigation services have become popular and can be installed on mobile phones to provide route information, location of points of interest and user’s current location. LBS has continued to face challenges which include “communication” process towards user reference. Location Based Service System conveys suitable information through a mobile device for effective decision making and reaction within a given time span. This research was geared at understanding the state of LBS technology acceptance and adoption by users in Nairobi Kenya. To do this a quantitative study was carried out through a questionnaire, to investigate mobile phone users’ response on awareness and use of LBS technology. Testing the growth of this technology in this region compared to predictions in previous studies using Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), it is evident that many users may be aware of GPS functionality in mobile phones but are certainly yet to fully embrace the technology as they rarely use it. This points to some underlying challenges towards this technology within this part of the World, thereby recommending for deliberate monitoring and evaluation of LBS technology for sustenance growth based on user satisfaction and acceptance for improved usability.

The 2019 M_(W)6.9 Banten Intraslab earthquake occurred at~100 km to the northeast of the Sunda Trench with two nodal plane models estimated by the Global Centroid-Moment-Tensor(GCMT)Project with a strike of 200°and a dip of 65°.Continuous GPS data from 11 GPS sites were used to model the source of the earthquake in *** coseismic displacements and its uncertainties are obtained from the coordinates of these GPS sites from 7 days before to 7 days after the *** coseismic slip is the inversion result of those displacements based on the best fit in an elastic *** maximum displacement is~5 cm with a large uncertainty that is comparable to the amplitude of displacement.A seismic moment of the best model(strike of 65°and dip of 54°)is 2.79×10^(19) Nm or equivalent to M_(W)*** fault model of the earthquake is highly presumed as a continuation of Sumatran Fault Zone.

Assessing the Suitability of the WorldClim Dataset for Ecological Studies in Southern Kenya

There have been numerous efforts to generate freely available climatic datasets for use in species distribution models, the most popular being the global climatic dataset known as WorldClim. The availability of such datasets is invaluable to scientists as many studies are performed in remote areas where no weather stations are found. However, many users do not critically assess the suitability of these datasets for their applications, and errors associated with global datasets are often assumed to be negligible. Understanding what a climate dataset can or cannot deliver requires the user to have a working knowledge of what the basic spatial climate-forcing factors are at the scale of his/her study, and to have a good understanding of the uncertainty in the dataset. In geographic studies, uncertainty is often described by the degree of error (uncertainty), or degree of accuracy (certainty) in data, and thematic uncertainty refers to the uncertainty in measures made for each variable, whereas temporal uncertainty refers to the uncertainty in time period represented by each variable. Here, we used climatic data from weather stations to investigate the climate-forcing factors in southern Kenya, and then used this weather station data to investigate the uncertainty in the WorldClim dataset. Results indicated that the nineteen core Worldclim variables, known as bioclimatic variables, accurately depicted the local variations in climate in the study area. However, whereas the monthly and seasonal temperature variables represented the same time period in different locations, the same was not true for the monthly and seasonal precipitation variables. The onset of rains is a key biological indicator, and scientists studying phenomena tied to the onset of rains need to keep in mind the temporal variations represented in the WorldClim dataset.

Geostructural stability assessment of cave using rock surface discontinuity extracted from terrestrial laser scanning point cloud

The use of terrestrial laser scanning（TLS） in the caves has been growing drastically over the last ***, TLS application to cave stability assessment has not received much attention of *** study attempted to utilize rock surface orientations obtained from TLS point cloud collected along cave passages to（1） investigate the influence of rock geostructure on cave passage development, and（2）assess cave stability by determining areas susceptible to different failure types. The TLS point cloud was divided into six parts（Entry hall, Chamber, Main hall, Shaft 1, Shaft 2 and Shaft 3）, each representing different segments of the cave passages. Furthermore, the surface orientation information was extracted and grouped into surface discontinuity joint sets. The computed global mean and best-fit planes of the entire cave show that the outcrop dips 290° with a major north-south strike. But at individual level, the passages with dip angle between 26° and 80° are featured with dip direction of 75°-322°. Kinematic tests reveal the potential for various failure modes of rock slope. Our findings show that toppling is the dominant failure type accounting for high-risk rockfall in the cave, with probabilities of 75.26%, 43.07%and 24.82% in the Entry hall, Main hall and Shaft 2, respectively. Unlike Shaft 2 characterized by high risk of the three failure types（32.49%, 24.82% and 50%）, the chamber and Shaft 3 passages are not suffering from slope failure. The results also show that the characteristics of rock geostructure considerably influence the development of the cave passages, and four sections of the cave are susceptible to different slope failure types, at varying degrees of risk.

Assessment of Household Access to Groundwater: A Case Study of Gilgil Constituency

In 2000, the United Nations (UN) developed Millennium Development Goals (MDG) with one of its aim being to improve access of potable water supply by 2015 in developing countries. This study thus focused on Kenya’s Gilgil constituency which lies in both arid and semi-arid zones and experiences bimodal rains which are neither heavy nor reliable. With persistent shortages, water management and monitoring became essential and in current times the use of Geographic information systems (GIS) is being incorporated due to its capability as an effective tool in water resources management. The study’s aim was to provide knowledge about accessible areas and gaps using cost surface analysis as well as identify other factors that influence settlement. The study utilized walk speeds as an impedance to determine cost surfaces followed by creation of service areas from water facilities using time as a measurement of access. The study established that surface friction may not have major influence on accessibility and service areas while logistic regression established that other factors strongly influence settlement apart from water availability. The study also reveals that 77% of the semi-permanent households in Gilgil have a hard time accessing water as they are outside the 30-minute walk time.

Geodetic slip rate and locking depth of east Semangko Fault derived from GPS measurement

65 km Semangko Fault is part of southern segments of Sumatran Fault Zone(SFZ)which is complex corresponds to the transition from the strike-slip regime of the SFZ to the normal faulting tectonics of the Sunda *** recent publication showed branches of Semangko Fault:West Semangko Fault(WSF)and East Semangko Fault(ESF).This study estimated geodetic slip rate and locking depth of ESF using Global Positioning System(GPS)time series data from 2007 to 2019 from all available GPS *** velocities refer to Sundaland Plate were used to estimate the fault parameters of the WSF and ESF ***-uniformity of velocity direction shows the complexities of Semangko Fault possibly caused by the contribution of all faults around *** ESF geodetic slip rate,which is 12.5±2 mm/yr was lower than WSF,which is 16.5±2 mm/*** is consistent with the rigid block nature of the SFZ system as northern segment slip rates have similar *** slip rates are possibly leading to lower generated seismic moment than the major segment of SFZ.
