Cerebral ischemia is a major health risk that requires preventive approaches in addition to drug *** exercise enhances neurogenesis and synaptogenesis,and has been widely used for functional rehabilitation after *** this study,we determined whether exercise training before disease onset can alleviate the severity of cerebral *** also examined the role of exercise-induced circulating factors in these *** mice were subjected to 14 days of treadmill exercise training before surgery for middle cerebral artery *** found that this exercise pre-conditioning strategy effectively attenuated brain infarct area,inhibited gliogenesis,protected synaptic proteins,and improved novel object and spatial memory *** analysis showed that circulating adiponectin plays a critical role in these preventive effects of *** activation of adiponectin receptors by Adipo Ron mimicked the effects of exercise,while inhibiting receptor activation abolished the exercise *** summary,our results suggest a crucial role of circulating adiponectin in the effects of exercise pre-conditioning in protecting against cerebral ischemia and supporting the health benefits of exercise.

Processing Chinese hand-radicals activates the medial frontal gyrus A functional MRI investigation

Embodied semantics theory asserts that the meaning of action-related words is neurally represented through networks that overlap with or are identical to networks involved in sensory-motor processing. While some studies supporting this theory have focused on Chinese characters, less attention has been paid to their semantic radicals. Indeed, there is still disagreement about whether these radicals are processed independently. The present study investigated whether radicals are processed separately and, if so, whether this processing occurs in sensory-motor regions. Materials consisted of 72 high-frequency Chinese characters, with 18 in each of four categories： hand-action verbs with and without hand-radicals, and verbs not related to hand actions, with and without hand-radicals. Twenty-eight participants underwent functional MRI scans while reading the characters. Compared to characters without hand-radicals, reading characters with hand-radicals activated the right medial frontal gyrus. Verbs involving hand-action activated the left inferior parietal lobule, possibly reflecting integration of information in the radical with the semantic meaning of the verb. The findings may be consistent with embodied semantics theory and suggest that neural representation of radicals is indispensable in processing Chinese characters.

Cognitive rehabilitation is a potential and promising treatment for cognitive impairment in Parkinson＇s disease （PD） that has shown efficacy in diverse studies. In addition, some few studies have found brain changes after cognitive rehabilitation in PD, which supports the existence of brain plasticity associated to cognitive training in a degen- erative disease.

Examining brain structures associated with attention networks in a large sample of young adults: a voxel-based morphometry study

Attention networks have three principal com- ponents supported by separate subprocesses, which include alerting, orienting, and executive control （EC） networks. Efficiently and accurately extracting useful information from the environment as the function of attention is pivotal to our survival. Previous brain imaging studies have examined activation patterns underlying the different attention networks in different cortical regions, yet focal differences in brain structures related to attention network components were not well understood. Therefore, in this study, voxel-based morphometry was used to investigate the relationship between gray matter volume （GMV） and different attention networks in a large young adult sample （n = 156）. As a result, multiple regression analysis revealed that higher alerting scores （stronger alerting ability） were negatively significantly correlated with region gray matter volume （rGMV） cingulate cortex/precuneus）, in the PCC/PreCu （posterior which might be associated with continuous maintenance of a vigilant state. Then, lower EC scores （stronger conflict resolution ability） were associated with larger rGMV in the dorsal anterior cingu- late cortex, which might be related to high-efficiency executive control processing. Together, findings of the present study provided a unique structural basis of GMV for individual differences in alerting and EC networks.

Advantages of cluster analysis for multifunctional and intercrossing brain area distribution Evaluation by functional magnetic resonance imaging

BACKGROUND： Multiple linear regression, general linear test and calculation of correlation values are commonly used in studies of brain function using functional magnetic resonance imaging （fMRI）. However, there are some limitations in their applications. In non-signal data statistics, cluster analysis functions as a very mature method, but it is not reliable in signal data statistics. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the spatial distribution of complex function in brain areas during motor tasks by cluster analysis, and to compare this with multiple linear regression. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： Block design, performed at the MR laboratory of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine. PARTICIPANTS： Fifteen right-handed, healthy university students （10 males and 5 females, aged 19-21 years）. METHODS： fMRI was performed while the subjects performed a finger movement task with the right hand. The screen showed a gray hand, with red spots presented in a random order on one of the index, middle, ring and little fingers. The subjects were required to remember the sequence of the red spots on the display. After a delay of 14 seconds, the subjects tapped their fingers according to the order of the red spots, as soon as the red spots turned green. After an interval of 14 seconds, another sequence appeared. Every sequence lasted for 28 seconds, including preparation and execution phases. A total of nine sequences per subject were performed. The data were analyzed using deconvolution and cluster methods, and program ＂cluster＂ was used to statistically analyze the coordinate positions of deconvolution and cluster data. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： Brain activation maps by deconvolution and brain function maps by clustering of the maximum peak values; blood oxygenation level dependent curves by deconvolution; coordinates of peak values and activation volumes by the two methods. Optimism,Social Support,and Caregiving Burden among the Long-Term Caregivers:The Mediating Effect of Psychological Resilience

Background:As the elderly population grows,the demand for long-term care services is *** significant investments in care quality and workforce training,long-term care workers often face challenges such as work fatigue,heavy workloads,and inadequate *** issues can impact job satisfaction,mental health,and care quality,leading to staff *** study examines how optimism,social support,and psychological resilience relate to caregiving burden,aiming to understand their effects on caregivers’well-being and performance to enhance the quality of long-term care ***:The participants were 542 long-term care *** statistics,t-tests,one-way ANOVA,and hierarchical regression were used for data ***:(1)Optimism and social support were significantly and positively correlated with psychological resilience and significantly and negatively associated with caregiving burden.(2)Regarding differences in optimism,social support,psychological resilience,and caregiving burden among long-term care workers,females scored significantly higher than males in“social support;”married workers scored significantly higher than unmarried workers in“optimism,”“social support,”and“psychological resilience”;workers aged 45–65 scored significantly higher than those aged 25–45 in“optimism”;workers aged 25–45 scored significantly higher than those aged 45–65 in“caregiving burden”;social workers scored significantly higher than nursing staff in“optimism.”(3)Psychological resilience partially mediated the relationship between social support and caregiving burden concerning explanatory and predictive ***:These findings suggest that optimism,social support,and psychological resilience are essential factors in reducing the caregiving burden among long-term care *** study highlights the importance of promoting psychological resilience and providing social support to alleviate the burden of caregiving.

Impact of Auditory-Verbal Therapy on executive functions in children with Cochlear Implants

Objective: Auditory-Verbal Therapy(AVT) can be considered one of the best practices for children with Cochlear Implants(CIs) who show impairments in cognitive skills such as executive functions. Hence,this research examined the impact of AVT on the executive functions in children with ***: This was a randomized case control study with pre-and post-intervention assessments. The participants were 36 children with CIs and their mothers. They were randomly selected from rehabilitation centers and deaf pre-schools, and randomly allocated to a control(n = 18) and a study(n = 18)group. The mean age of the children in the study and control groups was 3.11 ± 0.31 years and 3.20 ± 0.29years, respectively. Participants in the study group received 20 sessions of AVT over 10 weeks at twice a week, while those in the control group did not. All mothers completed the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function Pre-school Version(BRIEF-P) before and after children in the study group completed their AVT intervention. Data were analyzed by ***: The results suggest that AVT significantly influenced executive functions and all subscales including shifting, inhibition, emotional control, working memory and organization/planning in children with ***: These findings suggest that AVT may be effective in resulting in positive outcomes and may play an important role in improving executive functions in children with CIs.

Effects of Counselling on In-School Adolescents＇ about HIVIAIDS in Malaysia

The study examined the effects of counselling on in-school adolescents about HIV/AIDS in Malaysia. A total of 100 male and female students were randomly chosen from three residential commercial areas located in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. A questionnaire on HIV/AIDS symptoms was administered. The findings of the study indicated that two thirds of the interviewed adolescents have high desires to live longer on the earth. Also, adolescents do not associate high death rates of youths with HIV/AIDS symptoms. This report has implications for HIV/AIDS counselling in the Malaysian school system. This is supported by the fact that with the success of retrovirus therapy, many of the infected now live healthier lives and are pursuing a wider range of activities. Many HIV/AIDS infected people today can participate in undergoing their daily life activities, with a significant chance of living longer on the earth. The authors conclude that collaborative partnership between HIV/AIDS services and HIV counselling as part of the integrated system will provide early intervention services to boast relief of anxiety for the young people in Malaysia who already live with HIV/AIDS.
