Acute myeloid leukaemia(AML)patients harbouring certain chromosome abnormalities have particularly adverse *** these patients,targeted therapies have not yet made a significant clinical *** understand the molecular landscape of poor prognosis AML we profiled 74 patients from two different centres(in UK and Finland)at the proteomic,phosphoproteomic and drug response phenotypic *** data were complemented with transcriptomics analysis for 39 *** integration highlighted a phosphoproteomics signature that define two biologically distinct groups of KMT2A rearranged leukaemia,which we term MLLGA and *** presented increased DOT1L phosphorylation,HOXA gene expression,CDK1 activity and phosphorylation of proteins involved in RNA metabolism,replication and DNA damage when compared to MLLGB and no KMT2A rearranged *** was particularly sensitive to 15 compounds including genotoxic drugs and inhibitors of mitotic kinases and inosine-5-monosphosphate dehydrogenase(IMPDH)relative to other ***-risk KMT2A-MLLT3 cases were mainly represented in a third group closer to MLLGA than to *** expression of IMPDH2 and multiple nucleolar proteins was higher in MLLGA and correlated with the response to IMPDH inhibition in KMT2A rearranged leukaemia,suggesting a role of the nucleolar activity in sensitivity to *** summary,our multilayer molecular profiling of AML with poor prognosis and KMT2A-MLLT3 karyotypes identified a phosphoproteomics signature that defines two biologically and phenotypically distinct groups of KMT2A rearranged *** data provide a rationale for the potential development of specific therapies for AML patients characterised by the MLLGA phosphoproteomics signature identified in this study.

Corneal astigmatic outcomes after femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery combined with surface penetrating arcuate keratotomies

Dear Editor： There is accumulating evidence that human blood electronic circuit components and their application circuits become more and more important to cyborg implant/engineering, man-machine interface, hu- man disease detection and healing, and artificial brain evolutionusl. Here, we report the first development of human plasma-based amplifier circuit in the dis- crete as well as integrated circuit （IC） configuration mode. Electrolytes in the human blood contain an enormous number of charge carriers such as positive and negative molecule/atom ions, which are electri- cally conducting media and therefore can be utilized for developing electronic circuit components and their application circuits. These electronic circuits obvi- ously have very high application impact potential towards bio-medical engineering and medical science and technology.

The fable paradigm of the gender pay gap： Evidence from Portuguese private firms

This study investigates gender income disparity in Portuguese firms using separate Tobit models for men and women. While job segregation seems to be one of the major sources of gender disparity, women do not appear to be systematically underpaid in predominantly female occupations, regardless of the industry. The authors found that gender pay gap is larger in domestic firms, and it increases with employees＇ accumulated tenure and decreases with advanced education for women and on labor market entry. Despite showing some encouraging cracks, the glass ceiling still continues to prevent women from reaching top management positions. Finally, despite it appears wage disparity does exist, and it will probably continue to exist, the results point towards a window of opportunity for women.

Time to feed： How diet, competition, and experience may influence feeding behaviour and cannibalism in wood frog tadpoles Lithobates sylvaticus

Wood frog Lithobates sylvaticus tadpoles develop in temporary wetlands where high population densities can force tadpoles into aggregations that intensify competition and can lead to cannibalism. However, chemical alarm cues released from injured conspecifics could also dissuade cannibalism. The purpose of this study was to test mechanisms that may influence can- nibalistic behaviour. We tested whether the tendency of tadpoles to consume conspecifics would increase with the presence of competition and/or cues of profitable diets. Tadpoles placed in 1L experimental containers were tested for feeding initiation times of multiple diets, including conspecific tissues and conspecific tissues combined with chemical cues from the alternative diets （brine shrimp and comrneal）. Tadpoles were tested in the presence and absence of a competitor, and at multiple times over the course of the study. Tadpoles exhibited an altered response to diets over time; however the presence of a competitor reduced re- sponse times to all diets including conspecific tissues. Similarly, the presence of specific diets also reduced the response time of tadpoles to conspecific tissues. These results suggest competition among feeding tadpoles could result in aggressive behaviour leading to indiscriminate predation and cannibalism [Current Zoology 60 （5）： 571-580, 2014 ].

A new software for automated counting of glistenings in intraocular lenses in vivo

AIM:To assess the performance of a bespoke software for automated counting of intraocular lens(IOL)glistenings in slit-lamp ***:IOL glistenings from slit-lamp-derived digital images were counted manually and automatically by the bespoke *** images of one randomly selected eye from each of 34 participants were used as a training set to determine the threshold setting that gave the best agreement between manual and automatic grading.A second set of 63 images,selected using randomised stratified sampling from 290 images,were used for software *** images were obtained using a previously described ***-derived automated glistenings counts were compared to manual counts produced by three ***:A threshold value of 140 was determined that minimised the total deviation in the number of glistenings for the 34 images in the training *** this threshold value,only slight agreement was found between automated software counts and manual expert counts for the validating set of 63 images(κ=0.104,95%CI,0.040-0.168).Ten images(15.9%)had glistenings counts that agreed between the software and manual *** were 49 images(77.8%)where the software overestimated the number of ***:The low levels of agreement show between an initial release of software used to automatically count glistenings in in vivo slit-lamp images and manual counting indicates that this is a non-trivial *** improvement involving a dialogue between software developers and experienced ophthalmologists is required to optimise *** results suggest that validation of software is necessary for studies involving semi-automatic evaluation of glistenings.

InterStoreDB:A Generic Integration Resource for Genetic and Genomic Data

Associating phenotypic traits and quantitative trait loci （QTL） to causative regions of the underlying genome is a key goal in agricultural research. InterStoreDB is a suite of integrated databases designed to assist in this process. The individual databases are species independent and generic in design, providing access to curated datasets relating to plant populations, phenotypic traits, genetic maps, marker loci and QTL, with links to functional gene annotation and genomic sequence data. Each component database provides access to associated metadata, including data provenance and parameters used in analyses, thus providing users with information to evaluate the relative worth of any associations identified. The databases include CropStoreDB, for management of population, genetic map, QTL and trait measurement data, SeqStoreDB for sequence-related data and AlignStoreDB, which stores sequence alignment information, and allows navigation between genetic and genomic datasets. Genetic maps are visualized and compared using the CMAP tool, and functional annotation from sequenced genomes is provided via an EnsEMBL-based genome browser. This framework facilitates navigation of the multiple biological domains involved in genetics and genomics research in a transparent manner within a single portal.
