BACKGROUND Digital intraoral scanning,although developing rapidly,is rarely used in occlusal *** compensate for the technical drawbacks of current occlusal reconstruction techniques,such as time consumption and high technical requirements,digital intraoral scanning can be used in *** report aims to provide a way of selecting the most suitable maxillo-mandibular relationship(MMR)during *** SUMMARY A 68-year-old man with severely worn posterior teeth underwent occlusal reconstruction with fixed prosthesis using digital intraoral scanning.A series of digital models in different stages of treatment were obtained,subsequently compared,and selected using digital intraoral scanning together with traditional measurements,such as cone beam computed tomography,joint imaging,and clinical *** digital intraoral scanning,the MMR in different stages of treatment was accurately recorded,which provided feasibility for deciding the best occlusal reconstruction treatment,made the treatment process easier,and improved patient *** This case report highlights the clarity,recordability,repeatability,and selectivity of digital intraoral scanning to replicate and transfer the MMR during occlusal reconstruction,expanding new perspectives for its design,fabrication,and postoperative evaluation.

Intermittent compressive force induces cell cycling and reduces apoptosis in embryoid bodies of mouse induced pluripotent stem cells

In vitro manipulation of induced pluripotent stem cells(iPSCs) by environmental factors is of great interest for three-dimensional(3D) tissue/organ induction. The effects of mechanical force depend on many factors, including force and cell type. However,information on such effects in i PSCs is lacking. The aim of this study was to identify a molecular mechanism in i PSCs responding to intermittent compressive force(ICF) by analyzing the global gene expression profile. Embryoid bodies of mouse i PSCs, attached on a tissue culture plate in 3D form, were subjected to ICF in serum-free culture medium for 24 h. Gene ontology analyses for RNA sequencing data demonstrated that genes differentially regulated by ICF were mainly associated with metabolic processes,membrane and protein binding. Topology-based analysis demonstrated that ICF induced genes in cell cycle categories and downregulated genes associated with metabolic processes. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes database revealed differentially regulated genes related to the p53 signaling pathway and cell cycle. q PCR analysis demonstrated significant upregulation of Ccnd1, Cdk6 and Ccng1. Flow cytometry showed that ICF induced cell cycle and proliferation, while reducing the number of apoptotic cells. ICF also upregulated transforming growth factor β1(Tgfb1) at both m RNA and protein levels, and pretreatment with a TGF-β inhibitor(SB431542) prior to ICF abolished ICF-induced Ccnd1 and Cdk6 expression. Taken together,these findings show that TGF-β signaling in i PSCs enhances proliferation and decreases apoptosis in response to ICF, that could give rise to an efficient protocol to manipulate i PSCs for organoid fabrication.

Oral rehabilitation of a Parkinson's patient:A case report

Parkinson's disease is an idiopathic disorder of the central nervous system, characterized by resting tremors, muscular rigidity, slow and decreased movements. Oral rehabilitation of these patients requires special care, especially in those cases where the patient's socioeconomic status is not good and patient cannot come several times for fabrication of a complete denture. This clinical report presents a case of a Parkinson's patient who was completely rehabilitated in 3 appointments using special techniques. Border molding, f inal impression and jaw relation procedures were done in one appointment by using a custom tray with detachable handles and occlusal rims.

Rational design of new phases of tin monosulfide by first-principles structure searches

Tin monosulfide(Sn S), which is composed of earth-abundant elements, holds promise as useful high-performance solar absorber and thermoelectric material. In addition to the ground-state Pnma phase, a series of metastable phases in different crystalline structures have been reported experimentally or theoretically, yet the phase stability diagrams remain elusive. In this article, we provide a comprehensive materials design study of new phases of Sn S using first-principles global optimization structure search calculations. We find that the two-dimensional layered phases are generally more energetically favored than the three-dimensional connected phases. In addition, we discover several new phases with comparable energetics. Four lower-energy phases show clear phonon stabilities evidenced by an absence of imaginary modes. The electronic band structures, carrier transport properties, and absorption spectra of the newly discovered phases are investigated and discussed toward potential applications for solar cells and thermoelectric devices.

Biomechanical Evaluation of Nano-Zirconia Coatings on Ti-6Al-7Nb Implant Screws in Rabbit Tibias

The clinical success of dental implants can be improved by achieving optimum implant properties, such as their biomechanical and surface characteristics. Nano-structured coatings can play an important role in improving the implant surface. The purpose of the present study was to determine the most appropriate conditions for electrophoretic deposition （EPD） of nano-zirconia coatings on Ti-6A1-7Nb substrates and to evaluate the structural and biomechanical characteristics of these deposited coatings on the dental implants. EPD was used with different applied voltages and time periods to obtain a uniform layer of nano-zirconia on Ti-6A1-7Nb samples. The coated samples were weighed and the thickness of the product layer was measured. Surface analysis was performed by using optical microscopical examination, scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction phase analysis. For in vivo examination, 48 screw-designed implants （24 uncoated and 24 nano-zirconia coated） were implanted in both tibiae of 12 white New Zealand rabbits and evaluated biomechanically after 4- and 12-week healing intervals. Results revealed that the use of different conditions for EPD affected the final coating film properties. Increasing the applied voltage and coating time period increased the deposited nano-zirconia film thickness and weight. By selecting the appropriate coating conditions, and analyzing scanning electron microscopical examination and XRD patterns, this technique could produce a thin and continuous nano-zirconia layer with a uniform thickness of the Ti-6A1-7Nb samples. Mechanically, the nano-zirconia-coated implants showed a highly statistically significant difference in removal torque values, while histologically these coated implants enhanced and promoted osseointegration after 4 and 12 weeks of healing, compared with the uncoated ones. In conclusion, EPD is an effective technique for providing a high quality nano-zirconia coating film on dental implant surfaces. Moreover, the

Comparison of the clinical efficacy of two different types of post systems which were restored with composite restorations

AIM To compare the efficacy of resin composite restorations, retained with either polyethylene or zirconia-rich glass fiber posts. METHODS Sixty-two single rooted maxillary and mandibularcentral incisor teeth in forty-four patients (15 males and 29 females; age range 15-32 years) were restored either with an ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWP) fiber post (Bondable Reinforcement Ribbon, DENSE, Ribbond, Seattle, WA, United States) or a zircon-rich glass fiber post (Snowpost, Lot H 040; Carbotech, Ganges, France). Then, direct resin composite restoration (Clearfil AP-X, Kuraray) was performed for both post systems in tooth color suitable. Patients were recalled for routine inspections at 6 mo, 1, 2 and 3 *** The restorations were assessed during each recall evaluation according to predetermined clinical and radiographic criteria (periapical lesion; marginal leakage and integrity; color stability; surface stain and loss of retention of the post or the composite buildup material). The follow-up data showed no significant difference in these criteria between polyethylene fibre posts and zirconia-rich glass fibre *** The efficacy of resin composite restorations, retained with either polyethylene or zirconia-rich glass fiber posts were similar, suggesting that both types of fiber post can be used successfully to help retain resin composite restorations.

Tooth-derived stem cells: Update and perspectives

Tissue engineering is an emerging field of science that focuses on creating suitable conditions for the regeneration of tissues. The basic components for tissue engineering involve an interactive triad of scaffolds, signaling molecules, and cells. In this context,stem cells(SCs) present the characteristics of selfrenewal and differentiation capacity, which make them promising candidates for tissue engineering. Although they present some common markers, such as cluster of differentiation(CD)105, CD146 and STRO-1, SCs derived from various tissues have different patterns in relation to proliferation, clonogenicity, and differentiation abilities in vitro and in vivo. Tooth-derived tissues have been proposed as an accessible source to obtain SCs with limited morbidity, and various tooth-derived SCs(TDSCs) have been isolated and characterized, such as dental pulp SCs, SCs from human exfoliated deciduous teeth, periodontal ligament SCs, dental follicle progenitor cells, SCs from apical papilla, and periodontal ligament of deciduous teeth SCs. However, heterogeneity among these populations has been observed, and the best method to select the most appropriate TDSCs for regeneration approaches has not yet been established. The objective of this review is to outline the current knowledge concerning the various types of TDSCs, and discuss the perspectives for their use in regenerative approaches.
