MicroRNAs （miRNAs） are important post-transcriptional regulators of gene expression. For over a decade the deluge of research describing the biogenesis and activity of miRNAs has lead researchers to postulate rules to help make sense of the enormous amount of data produced. These rules are repeated in miRNA research papers and reviews. While these rules have been helpful one must be conscious of their limitations or risk missing future breakthroughs. Here we describe some of the most commonly stated rules, the reasoning behind their formation, their uses, and limitations.

AIM:To investigate the biological role of alpha fetoprotein (AFP) and its clinical signif icance in carcinogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).METHODS:Clinical analysis of HCC patients and im-munohistochemical examination were conducted to evaluate the relationship between serum AFP level and patient mortality. Confocal microscopy,Western blotting, dimethylthiahzolyl-2,5-diphenyl-tetrazolium bromide,Cell Counting Kit-8 assays and flow cytometry were performed to explore the possible ***: Among the 160 HCC patients enrolled in this study,130 patients survived 2 years (81.25%),with a survival rate of 86.8% in AFP 250 μg/L group, demonstrating a higher mortality rate in HCC patients with higher AFP levels. Surgical treatment was benef icial only in patients with low AFP *** mortality rate of HCC patients with high AFP levels who were treated surgically was apparently higher than those treated with conservative *** results of immunohistochemistry showed that AFP and AFP receptor were merely expressed in tissues of HCC patients with positive serum ***,in vitro analysis showed that AFP and AFPS were expressed in HepG2 but not in HLE cells. AFP showed a capability to promote cell growth,and this was more apparent in HepG2 cells,in which the proliferation was increased by 3.5 folds. Cell cycle analysis showed that the percent-age of HepG2 cells in S phase after exposure to AFP was modestly ***:HCC patients with higher AFP levels show a higher mortality rate,which appears to be attributable to the growth promoting properties of AFP.

We present an accelerated method for stochastically simulating the dynamics of heterogeneous cell *** algorithm combines a Monte Carlo approach for simulating the biochemical kinetics in single cells with a constant-number Monte Carlo method for simulating the reproductive fitness and the statistical characteristics of growing cell *** benchmark accuracy and performance,we compare simulation results with those generated from a previously validated population dynamics *** comparison demonstrates that the accelerated method accurately simulates population dynamics with significant reductions in runtime under commonly invoked steady-state and symmetric cell division *** the increasing complexity of cell population models,the method is an important addition to the arsenal of existing algorithms for simulating cellular and population dynamics that enables efficient,coarse-grained exploration of parameter space.

The novel coordination structures of europium and terbium chloride-picolinamide complexes （EuCl3-（C6H6N2O）2.5H2O, Eu-pa and TbCl3.（C6H6N2O）2.5H2O, Tb-pa） are reported. The crystal structures in the solid state are characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, FTIR, Raman, FIR, THz and luminescence spectroscopy. In the crystal structures, the pyridyl nitrogen and carbonyl oxygen atoms in picolinamide are coordinated to the metal ions to form a five-membered ring structure. The experimental results indicate the similar coordination structures of Eu and Tb-pa complexes and the changes of hydrogen bonds and conformation provide models for the coordination structures of the ligands induced by complexation. The results of lanthanide ions with ligands having amide groups.

Aim:To investigate the role of death-associated protein kinase (DAPK) on theapoptosis of Raji cells induced by sodium ***:The apoptosis ofRaji cells were induced by sodium butyrate for 2,4,6,8,and 10 ***,theRaji cells were inhibited to adhere on culture flask by *** viabilitywas detected by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromidemethod and the cell apoptosis percentage was estimated by flow *** focal adhesion kinase (FAK) expression were measured by Western *** sequence on the C-terminal of DAPK,which can suppress the function ofDAPK,was tranfected into the Raji cells to investigate whether the C-terminal ofDAPK could inhibit the apoptosis of Raji cells induced by sodium ***:After being treated with sodium butyrate,the Raji cells expressed DAPK anddisplayed many protrusions to adhere onto the culture *** Raji cells weresusceptive to apoptosis when they were inhibited adhesion by *** time,the cell viability decreased,the cell apoptosis percentage increased andthe protein levels of total FAK were *** Raji cells,which were trans-fected with the coding region on the C-terminal of DAPK,sustained apoptosisand the FAK protein level when treated with sodium ***:So-dium butyrate induced DAPK *** caused the Raji cells to display manyprotrusions all around the cells and adhere onto the culture *** expres-sion prompted apoptosis by reducing the FAK protein level in sodium butyrate-induced Raji cells.

During the past three decades, Wingtess/Int （Wnt）signaling has emerged as an essential regu{ator crucial for neuronal development and maintenance （Inestrosa and Arenas, 201_0）. In addition, Wnt signal- ing was recently shown to be involved in the regula- tion of synaptic function and plasticity, which is critical for learning and memory （Oliva et aL, 2013）. Deregulation of Wnt signaling has been proposed as a key contributor to the pathogenesis of neurode- generative disorders including Alzheimer＇s disease （AD） and Parkinson＇s disease （PD）. This increasing knowledge of the specific roles of Wnt signaling cascades during different stages of life has suggested innovative therapeutic strategies for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.

biochemistry and molecular biology is one of required courses for clinical medicinestudents. However, due to complex reaction and fragmentary chapters, biochemistryand molecular biology is known as the most difficult subject in basic courses. Problem-based learning(PBL), case-based learning(CBL) and Team-based learning(TBL) arewidely used modes of course teaching to improve students’ motivation for autonomouslearning conception and ability in recent years. They have their own advantages and disadvantagesif they were used alone in teaching. In this study, we try to integrate PBL, CBLand TBL in biochemistry and molecular biology teaching. All the students of two classeswere randomly divided into 10 groups. Each group included 9-10 students and adoptedthe integrated mode in teaching of metabolism unit. Survey and Analysis of students’ scores were used to assay teaching effect of the integrated mode. Compared with the nonintegratedteaching students, the integrated mode improved the average score of *** analysis showed that the integrated teaching students present better performancein comprehensive examination questions, which means the students’ comprehensiveability was being built and the ability was being improved. The survey displayedthat most students adapted to the novel teaching mode and they changed from passive toactive. Moreover the integrated mode significantly enhanced students’ consciousnessand learning initiative, and improved their problem- solving ability, even communicationskills and collaboration. Our Preliminary results demonstrated that the integrated applicationof PBL, CBL and TBL is better than traditional lecture-based learning(LBL) in teachingof biochemistry and molecular biology.
