Indian medicinal plants are referred to as the“nectar of life”owing to their phytochemicals and bioactive complexes that are beneficial in treating *** disease 2019(COVID-19)is a global health issue without any proper *** indigenous plants of India can be exploited to control the precise signs of *** Ministry of ayush(Ayurveda,Yoga and Naturopathy,Unani,Siddha,and Homeopathy)has advised routine usage of medicinal plants for *** plants like Zingiber officinalis,Azadirachta indica,Ocimum sanctum,Nigella sativa,Withania somnifera,Curcuma longa,Piper nigrum,Allium sativum,Tinospora cordifolia,*** immunity-boosting,antiviral,antibacterial,antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions that can suppress and treat symptoms of *** vitro,in vivo as well as in silico validation,these phytochemicals can help us to manage and treat COVID-19 *** integration of traditional knowledge in the prophylaxis of corona infection and current skills validating it for the development of precise and powerful therapeutic approaches will more efficiently resolve different clinical aspects of *** review focuses on both traditional and emergent methods to prevent and treat COVID-19 with various Indian medicinal plants along with their phytochemicals.

Roads are the most critical means of connectivity in Himalayan ***,the terrain is inherently fragile with varied geological,geomorphological,ecological,and climate regimes,that result in frequent slope failure and disruption in *** risk is further to be increased by extreme events-generated hazards,which are expected to rise in frequency and magnitude with ongoing intervention,however,can improve the sustainability of road *** present study attempts to analyse and quantify the impacts of a major road widening project initiated in 2018 in the upper Ganga catchment,Uttarakhand Himalaya which has destabilised valley slopes along the widened ***,a large quantity of excavated sediments is dumped down slopes,which is posing a threat to aquatic *** estimates are based on Google Earth imagery of a few representative road segments recently widened in the upper Ganga catchment,which indicate a substantial increase in the landslide and unstable slope area following the road *** increase in unstable slope area is attributed to improper road widening approaches and poor slope management in seismically active Himalayan ***,the mean velocity plots of Persistent Scatterer Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar(PSInSAR)indicate that the segments undergoing road widening are coherent with areas of significant earth surface change.A broad correlation between the road width and sediment yield indicates that even a slight increase in road width can result in a large-scale mass removal from the toe of the hillslope,inflicting cascading impact on *** study recommends a more flexible road construction approach based on the environmental and geological aspects of the terrain for sustainable road ***,the impact of climate change is looming over the Himalayas,and the relation between climate change and its potential effects on the stability of slopes remains an open issue.

BACKGROUND There is scant literature on hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)in patients with Budd-Chiari syndrome(BCS).AIM To assess the magnitude,clinical characteristics,feasibility,and outcomes of treatment in *** A total of 904 BCS patients from New Delhi,India and 1140 from Mumbai,India were *** prevalence and incidence of HCC were determined,and among patients with BCS-HCC,the viability and outcomes of interventional therapy were *** In the New Delhi cohort of 35 BCS-HCC patients,18 had HCC at index presentation(prevalence 1.99%),and 17 developed HCC over a follow-up of 4601 person-years,[incidence 0.36(0.22-0.57)per 100 person-years].BCS-HCC patients were older when compared to patients with BCS alone(P=0.001)and had a higher proportion of inferior vena cava block,cirrhosis,and long-segment vascular *** median alpha-fetoprotein level was higher in patients with BCS-HCC at first presentation than those who developed HCC at follow-up(13029 ng/mL vs 500 ng/mL,P=0.01).Of the 35 BCS-HCC,26(74.3%)underwent radiological interventions for BCS,and 22(62.8%)patients underwent treatment for HCC[transarterial chemoembolization in 18(81.8%),oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor in 3(13.6%),and transarterial radioembolization in 1(4.5%)].The median survival among patients who underwent interventions for HCC compared with those who did not was 3.5 years vs 3.1 mo(P=0.0001).In contrast to the New Delhi cohort,the Mumbai cohort of BCS-HCC patients were predominantly males,presented with a more advanced HCC[Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer C and D],and 2 patients underwent liver *** HCC is not uncommon in patients with *** interventions and liver transplantation are feasible in select primary BCS-HCC patients and may improve outcomes.

Multimodality Medical Image Fusion Based on Pixel Significance with Edge-Preserving Processing for Clinical Applications

Multimodal medical image fusion has attained immense popularity in recent years due to its robust technology for clinical *** fuses multiple images into a single image to improve the quality of images by retaining significant information and aiding diagnostic practitioners in diagnosing and treating many ***,recent image fusion techniques have encountered several challenges,including fusion artifacts,algorithm complexity,and high computing *** solve these problems,this study presents a novel medical image fusion strategy by combining the benefits of pixel significance with edge-preserving processing to achieve the best fusion ***,the method employs a cross-bilateral filter(CBF)that utilizes one image to determine the kernel and the other for filtering,and vice versa,by considering both geometric closeness and the gray-level similarities of neighboring pixels of the images without smoothing *** outputs of CBF are then subtracted from the original images to obtain detailed *** further proposes to use edge-preserving processing that combines linear lowpass filtering with a non-linear technique that enables the selection of relevant regions in detailed images while maintaining structural *** regions are selected using morphologically processed linear filter residuals to identify the significant regions with high-amplitude edges and adequate *** outputs of low-pass filtering are fused with meaningfully restored regions to reconstruct the original shape of the *** addition,weight computations are performed using these reconstructed images,and these weights are then fused with the original input images to produce a final fusion result by estimating the strength of horizontal and vertical *** standard quality evaluation metrics with complementary properties are used for comparison with existing,well-known algorithms objectively to validate the fusion *** results from th

Impact of single chamber and dual chamber permanent pacemaker implantation on left ventricular function:An observational study

BACKGROUND Permanent pacemaker implantation has the potential to impact left ventricular(LV)function and hence quality of life(QoL)in the long *** To assess the effect of single-and dual-chamber pacing on LV function and *** This study included 56 patients who underwent permanent pacing:Dual pacing,dual sensing,dual responsive and rate responsive(DDDR)for the initial 3 months,ventricular sensing,inhibited response and rate responsive(VVIR)for the next 3 months,and DDDR mode for the last 3 *** the study period,various echocardiographic parameters,functional status,and QoL were measured to assess the impact of pacing on LV function compared with baseline and at every 3 months *** A significant change appeared in cardiac function after VVIR pacing which was in diastolic properties of LV as shown by increase in isovolumic relaxation time from(85.28±9.54 ms)to(89.53±9.65 ms).At the 3-,6-,and 9-month follow-up,reduction in LV ejection fraction was observed to be 62.71±4.66%,61.07±4.41%,and 58.48±3.89%,*** increase in the QoL scores was noted at every follow-up *** An apparent depressant effect on LV function due to right ventricular pacing,with a higher incidence of adverse outcomes in the VVIR *** addition,an upsurge in QoL scores for the study population was noted,which indicates improvement in the QoL of patients post-pacing,irrespective of the ***,the DDDR mode is a highly preferable pacing mode.

Evidence Based Validation of Indian Traditional Medicine–Way Forward

Evidence based validation of the ethno-pharmacological claims on traditional medicine(TM) is the need of the day for its globalization and reinforcement. Combining the unique features of identifying biomarkers that are highly conserved across species, this can offer an innovative approach to biomarker-driven drug discovery and development. TMs are an integral component of alternative health care systems. India has a rich wealth of TMs and the potential to accept the challenge to meet the global demand for them. Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy(ayush) medicine are the major healthcare systems in Indian Traditional Medicine. The plant species mentioned in the ancient texts of these systems may be explored with the modern scientific approaches for better leads in the healthcare. TM is the best sources of chemical diversity for finding new drugs and leads. Authentication and scientific validation of medicinal plant is a fundamental requirement of industry and other organizations dealing with herbal drugs. Quality control(QC) of botanicals, validated processes of manufacturing, customer awareness and post marketing surveillance are the key points, which could ensure the quality, safety and efficacy of TM. For globalization of TM, there is a need for harmonization with respect to its chemical and metabolite profiling, standardization, QC, scientific validation,documentation and regulatory aspects of TM. Therefore, the utmost attention is necessary for the promotion and development of TM through global collaboration and co-ordination by national and international programme.

Anisotropic iron-doping patterns in two-dimensional cobalt oxide nanoislands on Au(111)

An in teg rated approach combi ning den sity functional theory(DFT)calculati ons and atomic resol utio n sea nning tun neling microscopy(STM)is used to study well-defined iron-doped cobalt oxide nanoislands supported on Au(111).The focus is on the structure and distribution of Fe dopants within these nanoislands of CoO as a function of Fe to Co *** DFT and STM results agree strongly and complement each other to allow for a more complete un dersta nding of the dopa nt structure trends on the nano *** Fe as a marker,we first find that the stacki ng seque nee of the moire structure of the host cobalt oxide nano islands can be ide ntified un ambiguously through a combinati on of DFT and *** the distinct con trast of the embedded Fe dopa nt atoms as observed with atom-resolved STM,we find correlatio ns betwee n Fe dopa nt positi on and the CoO/Au(111)moire patter n at varyi ng Fe dopa nt den *** n of Fe-dopa nt clusters within the nano islands is investigated in detail through DFT and found to agree with the dopant patter ns observed in *** find that the structural effects of Fe dopants throughout the nanoislands with the basal planes and the two types of edges—the oxygen and metal edges—have different *** DFT calculations and STM images show a strong preferenee for Fe dopants to be located directly on or near the oxygen edge of the nanoislands as opposed to being directly on or n ear the metal *** n together,our results illustrate that Fe dopa nt incorporati on and distributi on within CoO nanoislands are highly an isotropic and gover ned by both the moire structure of the basal planes as well as nano-size effects present at the under-coordinated edges of different local geometry and chemistries.
