Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder(NMOSD)is an autoimmune inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system(CNS)accompanied by blood-brain barrier(BBB)*** in microglial lipid metabolism is believed to be closely associated with the neuropathology of ***,there is limited evidence on the functional relevance of circulating lipids in CNS demyelination,cellular metabolism,and microglial ***,we found that serum low-density lipoprotein(LDL)was positively correlated with markers of neurological damage in NMOSD *** addition,we demonstrated in a mouse model of NMOSD that LDL penetrates the CNS through the leaky BBB,directly activating *** activation leads to excessive phagocytosis of myelin debris,inhibition of lipid metabolism,and increased glycolysis,ultimately exacerbating myelin *** also found that therapeutic interventions aimed at reducing circulating LDL effectively reversed the lipid metabolic dysfunction in microglia and mitigated the demyelinating injury in *** findings shed light on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying the positive correlation between serum LDL and neurological damage,highlighting the potential therapeutic target for lowering circulating lipids to alleviate the acute demyelinating injury in NMOSD.

Short-term effects of low-level PM2.5,PM10,O3,and tropical meteorological conditions on emergency department visits for respiratory diseases in Haikou,China

Objective:To assess the correlation between atmospheric pollutants,meteorological factors,and emergency department visits for respiratory diseases in Haikou ***:Daily data on atmospheric pollutants,meteorological factors,and emergency department visits for respiratory diseases in Haikou City from 2018 to 2021 were *** Spearman rank correlation test was used to analyze the correlation,and a distributed lag non-linear model was employed to analyze the health effects and lag impacts of environmental *** analyses were conducted based on sex and ***:According to the criteria of International Classification of Diseases(ICD-10:J00-J99),a total of 221913 cases were included,accounting for 21.3%of the total emergency department visits in Haikou *** every 1℃increase in temperature,the risk of emergency department visits increased by 1.029%(95%CI 1.016%-1.042%).Relative humidity greater than 80%reduced the risk of visits,while higher atmospheric pressure(>1010 hpa)also decreased the likelihood of daily emergency department *** concentrations of PM2.5(30-50μg/m^(3)),PM10(>60μg/m^(3)),and O_(3)(75-125μg/m^(3))were associated with increased *** temperatures(>25℃)have a greater impact on females and children aged 0-14 years,while males are more sensitive to low atmospheric *** aged 65 and above exhibited increased sensitivity to O_(3)concentration,and the effects of PM2.5,PM10,and O_(3)are more pronounced in individuals over 14 years ***:Short-term exposure to high temperatures,particulate matter pollutants(PM_(2.5)and PM_(10)),and ozone(O_(3))is associated with increased emergency department visits for respiratory diseases.

Development of a clinical nomogram for prediction of response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in patients with advanced gastric cancer

BACKGROUND The efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy(NAC)in advanced gastric cancer(GC)is still a controversial *** To find factors associated with chemosensitivity to NAC treatment and to provide the optimal therapeutic strategies for GC patients receiving *** The clinical information was collected from 230 GC patients who received NAC treatment at the Central South University Xiangya School of Medicine Affiliated Haikou Hospital from January 2016 to December *** absolute shrinkage and selection operator logistic regression analysis was used to find the possible predictors.A nomogram model was employed to predict the response to *** In total 230 patients were finally included in this study,including 154 males(67.0%)and 76 females(33.0%).The mean age was(59.37±10.60)years,ranging from 24 years to 80 *** to the tumor regression grade standard,there were 95 cases in the obvious response group(grade 0 or grade 1)and 135 cases in the poor response group(grade 2 or grade 3).The obvious response rate was 41.3%.Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator analysis showed that four risk factors significantly related to the efficacy of NAC were tumor location(P<0.001),histological differentiation(P=0.001),clinical T stage(P=0.008),and carbohydrate antigen 724(P=0.008).The C-index for the prediction nomogram was *** calibration curve revealed that the predicted value exhibited good agreement with the actual *** curve analysis showed that the nomogram had a good value in clinical *** A nomogram combining tumor location,histological differentiation,clinical T stage,and carbohydrate antigen 724 showed satisfactory predictive power to the response of NAC and can be used by gastrointestinal surgeons to determine the optimal treatment strategies for advanced GC patients.
