Maternal serum level of resistin is associated with risk for gestational diabetes mellitus:A meta-analysis

BACKGROUND Resistin is most likely involved in the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM), but the existing findings are *** To review the literature investigating the associations of the risk of GDM with serum level of *** A systematic literature search was performed using MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science(all databases). This meta-analysis included eligible studies that:(1) investigated the relationship between the risk of GDM and serum resistin;(2)included GDM cases and controls without GDM;(3) diagnosed GDM according to the oral glucose-tolerance test;(4) were performed in humans;(5) were published as full text articles in English; and(6) provided data with median and quartile range, median and minimum and maximum values, or mean and standard deviation. The pooled standardized mean difference(SMD) and 95%confidence interval(CI) were calculated to estimate the association between the risk of GDM and serum resistin. To analyze the potential influences of need for insulin in GDM patients and gestational age at blood sampling, we performed a subgroup analysis. Meta-regression with restricted maximum likelihood estimation was performed to assess the potentially important covariate exerting substantial impact on between-study *** The meta-analysis for the association between serum resistin level and GDM risk included 18 studies(22 comparisons) with 1041 cases and 1292 controls. BACKGROUND Adiponectin(ADIPOQ) is an important factor involved in the regulation of both carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. Polymorphisms in the ADIPOQ gene are known to influence an individual's predisposition to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes. Moreover, women with gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM) are at an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Several studies have been conducted previously to assess the association between ADIPOQ polymorphisms and GDM; however, the results of the association are *** To quantitatively evaluate the association between ADIPOQ +45 T/G, +276 G/T,and-11377 C/G polymorphisms and the risk of *** A systematic search of EMBASE, PubMed, CNKI, Web of Science, and WANFANG DATA was conducted up to October 20, 2018. We calculated merged odds ratios(ORs) with 95% confidence intervals(CIs) using a fixed-effects or random-effects model depending on the between-study heterogeneity to evaluate the association between AIDPOQ +45 T/G, +276 G/T, and-11377 C/G polymorphisms and the risk of GDM. Subgroup analysis was performed by ethnicity. Publication and sensitivity bias analyses were performed to test the robustness of the association. Developing the Allometric Equations for Estimating Above-Ground Biomass of Vachellia tortilis Using Destructive Sampling in Oman

Biomass models to estimate carbon stocks in arid environment are very limited. This study employed destructive sampling to develop a new biomass model for Vachellia tortilis, a widely known species in the Sultanate of Oman. Twenty trees with a diameter at stump height (DSH) ranging from 18.5 cm to 150 cm were selected based on DSH and height variations for destructive sampling in As Saleel Natural Park Reserve (SNPR) in Al Sharqiyah governorate, South of Oman. Each tree was excavated and cut into three parts: Stems, Branches, twigs, and leaves. The total fresh weight of each tree was obtained in the field using a 300 balance. Sub-samples (250 - 300 grams) were taken from each part of the tree and transferred to the laboratory for dry weight determination. Linear multiple regression analysis was done using SPSS software between the three variables, DSH, H, CA (x) and the total dry biomass (y). Five models were tested for the best-fit model based on R-Square and Mean Square Error (MSE). Model 5 was the best-fit model, including the LOG of DSH and the LOG of CA (R2 = 0.97, MSE = 0.114). The models developed in this research fill a critical gap in estimating the AGB of terrestrial native species in Oman and other countries with similar ecological and climate conditions.

The authors consider the problem of reaching consensus over a communication network via asynchronous interaction between pairs of agents. A well-known method is the linear gossip algorithm due to Tsitsiklis(1984). Extension of this, allowing the selection of a strictly stationary sequence of communicating pairs, was given in Picci and Taylor(2013). Extension of the linear gossip algorithm to directed communication networks, retaining the linear dynamics, was proposed by Cai and Ishii(2012),later extended by Silvestre, et al.(2018). A definite novelty of these algorithms is that L2-convergence with exponential rate can be established. The authors attend the above issues, extending the result of Picci and Taylor(2013) motivated by features of algorithms for directed networks. The authors present and discuss the algorithm of Silvestre, et al.(2018), together with systematic simulation results based on 5M randomly chosen parameter settings. The core of the proposed mathematical technology is a set of simple observations, presented with a tutorial aspect, by which the authors can conveniently establish various results on the almost sure convergence of products of strictly stationary sequences of matrices to a rank-1 matrix.

Analysis of factors related to non-sentinel lymph node metastasis in 296 sentinel lymph node-positive Chinese breast cancer patients

Objective: Axillary lymph node dissection(ALND) may be unnecessary in 20%–60% of breast cancer patients with sentinel lymph node(NSLN) metastasis. The aim of the present study was to review the medical records of Chinese patients with early-stage breast cancer and positive NSLN metastasis to identify clinicopathological characteristics as risk factors for non-NSLN ***: The medical records of 2008 early-stage breast cancer patients who received intraoperative sentinel lymph node biopsy(SLNB) between 2006 and 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. These patients were clinically and radiologically lymph nodenegative and had no prior history of receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy or endocrinotherapy. The clinicopathological characteristics of patients with positive NSLN metastasis who underwent ALND were ***: In the present study, 296 patients with positive NSLN metastases underwent ALND. Positive non-NSLN metastases were confirmed in 95 patients(32.1%). On univariate analysis, ≥ 3 positive NSLN metastases(P <0.01), NSLN macrometastases(P =0.023), and lymphovascular invasion(P = 0.04) were associated with non-NSLN metastasis(P <0.05). In multivariate analysis, the number of positive SLNs was the most significant predictor of non-SLN metastasis. For patients with 0, 1, 2, or 3 associated risk factors, the non-SLN metastatic rates were 11.5%, 22.5%, 35.2%, and 73.1%, ***: The number of positive NSLNs, NSLN macrometastases, and lymphovascular invasion were correlated with nonSLN metastasis. The number of positive SLNs was an independent predictor for non-NSLN metastasis. When 2 or 3 risk factors were present in one patient, the probability of non-NSLN was higher than that in the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group Z0011 trial(27.3%); thus, avoiding ALND should be considered carefully.
