Electroacupuncture Promotes Functional Recovery after Facial Nerve Injury in Rats by Regulating Autophagy via GDNF and PI3K/m TOR Signaling Pathway

Objective:To explore the mechanism of electroacupuncture(EA) in promoting recovery of the facial function with the involvement of autophagy,glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor(GDNF),and phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase(PI3K)/mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR) signaling ***:Seventy-two male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly allocated into the control,sham-operated,facial nerve injury(FNI),EA,EA+3-methyladenine(3-MA),and EA+GDNF antagonist groups using a random number table,with 12 rats in each *** FNI rat model was established with facial nerve crushing *** intervention was conducted at Dicang(ST 4),Jiache(ST 6),Yifeng(SJ 17),and Hegu(LI 4) acupoints for 2 *** Simone’s 10-Point Scale was utilized to monitor the recovery of facial *** histopathological evaluation of facial nerves was performed using hematoxylin-eosin(HE) *** levels of Beclin-1,light chain 3(LC3),and P62 were detected by immunohistochemistry(IHC),immunofluorescence,and reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction,***,IHC was also used to detect the levels of GDNF,Rai,PI3K,and ***:The facial functional scores were significantly increased in the EA group than the FNI group(P<0.05 or P<0.01).HE staining showed nerve axons and myelin sheaths,which were destroyed immediately after the injury,were recovered with EA *** expressions of Beclin-1 and LC3 were significantly elevated and the expression of P62 was markedly reduced in FNI rats(P<0.01);however,EA treatment reversed these abnormal changes(P<0.01).Meanwhile,EA stimulation significantly increased the levels of GDNF,Rai,PI3K,and mTOR(P<0.01).After exogenous administration with autophagy inhibitor 3-MA or GDNF antagonist,the repair effect of EA on facial function was attenuated(P<0.05 or P<0.01).Conclusions:EA could promote the recovery of facial function and repair the facial nerve damages in a rat model of *** may exert this neuroreparative effect through

In our editorial,we want to comment on the article by Stefanolo et al titled“Effect of Aspergillus niger prolyl endopeptidase in patients with celiac disease on a long-term gluten-free diet”.Celiac disease is an immune-mediated disorder triggered by dietary gluten in genetically predisposed *** avoiding gluten can permit patients to live symptom-free,ongoing voluntary or involuntary exposure to gluten is common and associated with persistent villous atrophy in small bowel *** villous atrophy predisposes patients to life threatening complications,such as osteoporotic fractures or malignancies,therapeutic adjuncts to gluten-free diet become important to improve patients’quality of life and,if these adjuncts can be shown to improve villous atrophy,avoid *** administration of enzyme preparations,such as endopeptidases that digest gluten and mitigate its antigenicity to trigger inflam-mation,is one clinical strategy under *** article is about the utility of one endopeptidase isolated from Aspergillus *** critique findings of this clinical trial and also summarize endopeptidase-based as well as other strategies and how they can complement gluten-free diet in the management of celiac disease.

Impact of surgical management of upper tract urothelial cancer in octogenarians:A population-based study

Lithography-free polarization-dependent absorber based on α-MoO_(3)

As a natural biaxial hyperbolic material, α-phase molybdenum trioxide(α-MoO_(3)) exhibits dielectric and metallic properties in the plane, rendering it an exceptional candidate for polarization-dependent devices. In this work, we design a lithography-free polarization-dependent absorber consisting of an α-MoO_(3)film, a germanium layer, and a silver substrate. The results show that a narrowband absorption of up to 0.99 is achieved at a wavelength of 12.2 μm for transverse magnetic polarization. In contrast, the absorption is only 0.06 at this wavelength for transverse electric polarization. This remarkable polarization-dependent absorption performance is attributed to the coupling of epsilon-near-zero modes and Fabry-Perot resonances, which is confirmed by the electric field and power dissipation density distributions. Furthermore, strong polarization-dependent performance could also be achieved when the crystal axis of α-MoO_(3)is rotated in the out-of-plane. This work demonstrates that in-plane anisotropic α-MoO_(3)has the potential for designing high polarization-dependent devices.

Impact of data balancing a multiclass dataset before the creation of association rules to study bacterial vaginosis

Background:Bacterial vaginosis is a polymicrobial syndrome in which the homeostasis exerted by the Latobacillus species that protect the vaginal mucosa has been lost. This study explored the data balancing process with the intention of improving the quality of association rules. The article aimed to balance the unbalanced multiclass dataset to improve association rule creation. Methods:A dataset with 201 observations and 58 variables was analyzed. A preconstructed dataset was used. The authors collected the data between August 2016 and October 2018 in Tabasco, Mexico. The study population comprised sexually active women ages 18 to 50 who underwent gynecological inspection at the infectious and metabolic diseases research laboratory at the Universidad Juarez Autonoma de Tabasco. To determine the best k-value, the random-forest algorithm was used and the balancing was performed with the synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE), random over-sampling examples (ROSE), and adaptive syntetic sampling approach for imbalanced learning (ADASYN) algorithms. The Apriori algorithm created the rules and to select rules with statistical significance, the ***(), ***(), and ***() functions and quality metric Fisher’s exact tes were used. The biological validation was carried out by the expert (bacteriologist). Results:The ADASYN algorithm at K = 9 the out of the bag (OOB) error was zero, this was the best K-values. In the balancing process the ADASYN algorithm show best the performance. From the dataset balanced with ADASYN, the apriori algorithm created the association rules and the selection with the quality metric Fisher’s exact test, and the biological validation reported 13 rules.
