We aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir(Paxlovid)therapy for hemodialysis-dependent patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)*** hemodialysis patients infected with the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 from April 3 to May 30,2022,were *** parameters and chest CT(computed tomography)imaging were *** treatment group included six patients who received 150 mg/100 mg of Paxlovid orally once daily for 5 days,whereas the control group included seven patients who received basic *** serious adverse reactions or safety events were *** control patients progressed to moderate disease,and none in the treatment group showed progression of chest CT findings(Pents in the treatment group and 57.1%of the patients in the control group turned negative within 22 *** the Paxlovid treatment group,we found significantly increased levels of lymphocytes(P=0.03)and eosinophils(P=0.02)and decreased levels of D-dimer on Day 8 compared with those on Day *** therapy showed a potential therapeutic effect with good tolerance in hemodialysis *** optimal dose and effectiveness evaluation must be further investigated in a largeer cohort.

The applications of hydrogels have expanded significantly due to their versatile,highly tunable properties and breakthroughs in biomaterial *** this review,we cover the major achievements and the potential of hydrogels in therapeutic applications,focusing primarily on two areas:emerging cell-based therapies and promising non-cell therapeutic *** the context of cell therapy,we discuss the capacity of hydrogels to overcome the existing translational challenges faced by mainstream cell therapy paradigms,provide a detailed discussion on the advantages and principal design considerations of hydrogels for boosting the efficacy of cell therapy,as well as list specific examples of their applications in different disease *** then explore the potential of hydrogels in drug delivery,physical intervention therapies,and other non-cell therapeutic areas(e.g.,bioadhesives,artificial tissues,and biosensors),emphasizing their utility beyond mere delivery ***,we complement our discussion on the latest progress and challenges in the clinical application of hydrogels and outline future research directions,particularly in terms of integration with advanced biomanufacturing *** review aims to present a comprehensive view and critical insights into the design and selection of hydrogels for both cell therapy and noncell therapies,tailored to meet the therapeutic requirements of diverse diseases and situations.

Increased risk of subsequent primary lung cancer among female hormone-related cancer patients: A meta-analysis based on over four million cases

Background: The incidence rate of lung cancer in women has significantly increased over the past decade, and previous evidence has indicated a significant relationship between the elevated levels of sex hormones and the risk of lung cancer. Therefore, we hypothesized that female hormone-related cancer (FHRC) patients, including breast, endometrial, cervical, and ovarian cancer patients, may experience a higher risk of developing subsequent lung cancer. This meta-analysis aimed to identify the risk of lung cancer among FHRC patients compared to the general ***: The PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and CNKI databases were searched up to May 11, 2022. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to identify the risk of subsequent lung cancer after FHRC. Dear Editor:Lung cancer has the highest incidence rate among malignancies and remains the primary contributor to cancer-related mortality on a global scale[1].Early detection is the most efficacious approach for enhancing the prognosis and mitigating the mortality of patients with lung cancer[2].Currently,diagnosis of lung cancer is mainly by different types of imaging including low-dose spiral computed tomography(LDCT)combined with pathological assessment of biopsy,but prevalence of false-positive results and associated expenses may impede its becoming a standard screening technique[3].

Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD), a common respiratory disease, can be effectively treated by traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). Qingfei Huatan, a TCM formula, has been reported to effectively alleviate the clinical symptoms of COPD patients. However, there is a lack of multi-centre,randomised, double-blind, controlled clinical trials documenting the clinical efficacy and safety of this formula in the treatment of acute exacerbation of COPD(AECOPD).Objective: This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of Qingfei Huatan formula in the treatment of AECOPD, thereby providing high-quality clinical ***, setting, participants and interventions: A total of 276 patients with AECOPD were included in this multi-centre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial and were randomised into treatment and control groups at a ratio of 1:1. Patients in the treatment and control groups took Qingfei Huatan granules or simulated Qingfei Huatan granules twice a day, for 14 days, in addition to Western medicine treatment. All patients were followed up for 3 *** outcome measures: The primary outcome was time taken to symptom stabilisation. The secondary outcomes included duration of antibiotic use, clinical symptom and sign score, TCM syndrome score, dyspnoea score, and quality of life(QOL) score.
