AIM:To evaluate the value of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography(18F-FDG PET/CT) in the restaging of resected rectal ***:From January 2007 to Sep 2008,21 patients who had undergone curative surgery resection for rectal carcinoma with suspicious relapse in conventional imaging or clinical findings were retrospectively enrolled in our *** patients underwent 28 PET/CT scans(two patients had two scans,one patient had three and one had four scans).Locoregional recurrences and/or distant metastases were confirmed by histological analysis or clinical and imaging ***:Final diagnosis was confirmed by histopathological diagnosis in 12 patients(57.1) and by clinical and imaging follow-up in nine patients(42.9).Eight patients had extrapelvic metastases with no evidence of pelvic *** patients had both pelvic recurrence and extrapelvic metastases,and two patients had pelvic recurrence only.18F-FDG PET/CT was negative in two patients and positive in 19 patients.18F-FDG PET/CT was true positive in 17 patients and false positive in *** accuracy of 18F-FDG PET/CT was 90.5,negative predictive value was 100,and positive predictive value was *** patients with perirectal recurrence underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT image guided tissue core biopsy.18F-FDG PET/CT also guided surgical resection of pulmonary metastases in three patients and monitored the response to salvage chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy in four ***:18F-FDG PET/CT is useful for evaluating suspicious locoregional recurrence and distant metastases in the restaging of rectal cancer after curative resection.

The multi-time-scale structures of an annual sediment discharge series of debris flow in the Jiangjia Ravine and the Southern Oscillation index are analysed using the method of Morlet wavelet transformations. The possible effects of El Nio episodes on the annual sediment discharge are discussed by comparing the period variations of ENSO and the discharge. The results show that the annual sediment discharge series of debris flow is related to El Nio episodes. Generally, the annual sediment discharge of debris flow is less than usual during an El Nino episode and debris flow is less active. On the contrary, the annual sediment discharge of debris flows is greater than usual during a La Nia episode and debris flows are more freq.ent. There is a relationship between the annual sediment discharges of debris flow in the Jiangjia Ravine and the summer Southern Oscillation index, with both having q.asi-periodic variations of 2 and 5–6 years.

Background and purpose To analyse the long-term risk of ischaemic stroke and the clinical effects of antithrombotics on the risk of haemorrhagic stroke in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE).Methods A retrospective cohort study was conducted using a population-based database taken from Taiwan National Health Insurance Research *** with SLE between 2000 and 2008 were registered and matched with two controls by the index date,age,gender and Charlson Comorbidity Index(CCI).These subjects were followed until either stroke event or 31 December *** HRs(aHRs)for strokes were estimated with Cox regression models,and the cumulative incidence of ischaemic stroke was analysed by log-rank test and Kaplan-Meier survival *** In total,8310 patients with SLE and 16620 patients without SLE were *** general,patients with SLE had higher rates of ischaemic stroke(5.4%vs 3.3%)and haemorrhagic stroke(1.5%vs 0.6%)than in *** multivariate analysis adjusted to age,gender,CCI,urbanisation level and antithrombotics uses,aHRs of all strokes,ischaemic stroke and haemorrhagic stroke were 1.73(95%CI:1.54 to 1.94),1.65(95%CI:1.45 to 1.87)and 2.24(95%CI:1.71 to 2.95),respectively,in patients with *** with SLE were significantly more likely to suffer ischaemic stroke than patients without SLE,even 10 years after SLE diagnosis(6.12%vs 3.50%,p<0.001).Antiplatelet use increased the risk of haemorrhagic stroke in SLE group(aHR=1.74,95%CI:1.18 to 2.57).Conclusions Patients with SLE are at greater risk of developing ischaemic stroke that lasts for 10 *** should be carefully administered to prevent cardiovascular events in patients with SLE due to the risk of haemorrhagic stroke.

Objective To verify Working Group for Obesity in China （WGOC） recommended body mass index （BMI） classification reference for overweight and obesity in Chinese childr.n and adolescents using the data of 2002 China Nationwide Nutrition and Health Survey. Methods PediaWic metabolic syndr.me （MetS） and abnormality of each risk factor for MetS were defined using the criteria for US adolescents. Definition of hyper-TC, LDL, and dyslipidemia in adults was applied as well. The average level and abnormality rate of the metabolic indicators were described by BMI percentiles and compared with general linear model analysis. Receiver operating characteristic analysis was used to summarize the potential of BMI to discriminate between the presence and absence of the abnormality of these indicators. Results There was neither significantly increasing nor significantly decreasing trend of biochemical parameter levels in low BMI percentile range （〈65th）. Slight increasing trend from the 75th and a significant increase were found when BMI≥85th percentile. In general, the prevalence of the examined risk factors varied slightly when BMI percentile〈75th, and substantial increases were consistently seen when BMI percentile≥75th. As an indicator of hyper-TG, hypertension and MetS, the sensitivity and specificity were eq.al at the point of BMI〈75th percentile, and the Youden＇s index of risk factors also reached peak point before 75th percentile except for MetS. When the BMI percentile was used as the screening indicator of MetS, Youden＇s index reached peak point at 85th percentile, just the point in the ROC graph that was nearest to the upper left comer. Conclusion The BMI classification reference for overweight and obesity recommended by WGOC is rational to predict and prevent health risks in Chinese childr.n and adolescents. Lower screening cut-off points, such as 83th percentile or 80th percentile, should not be excluded when they are considered as overweight criteria in future interventi

IM To isolate and purify the heme oxygenase (HO) isoform microsomal fractions in SpragueDawley rat liver and brain in order to understand the characteristics of the two constitutive forms and the mechanism of the occurrence of hyperbilirubinemia.METHODS After induced by hematin and phenylhydr.zine, the rat liver and brain microsomal fractions were isolated and purified by DEAESephacel and hydr.xylapatite. The activity of two isoforms and the apparent molecular weight of heme oxygenase1 (HO1) and heme oxygenase2 (HO2) on SDSpolyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDSPAGE) were measured. Kunming mice were used to prepare antiserum against purified liver HO2. Rat liver HO1 and brain HO2 preparations were analysed with Western immunoblotting techniq.e.RESULTS Two isoforms were purified and identified in the treated rat liver, and HO1 was the predominant form with a ratio of 2∶1. In the native state, the HO2 activity was detected, but the HO1 activity was increased in response to hematin and phenylhydr.zine, and that of HO2 was fully refractory to these agents. The apparent molecular weights of HO1 and HO2 were about Mr 30 000 and Mr 36 000 under reducing conditions, respectively. In the untreated liver and treated brain, only one peak of HO activity exhibiting an elution profile similar to that of HO2 of the treated liver was detected. The presence of an activity peak was not found in the elution profile at the region where the inducible isoform of HO (HO1) was expected. The apparent molecular weight in treated brain preparation was identical to that of the purified liver HO2. Crossreactivity of HO2 in the brain microsomal preparation was established; but a reactivity of HO1 in the liver was not observed by Western immunoblotting analysis when antiserum to liver HO2 was employed.CONCLUSION Two constitutive forms of HO, designated as HO1 and HO2, exist in the treated rat liver. Background Although radial access for dr.g-eluting stent （DES） combined with rotational atherectomy （RA） in patients with calcified coronary lesions may be associated with a lower risk of major bleeding complications and obtain favorable clinical results compared with femoral access, the long-term outcome data of this approach were limited in contemporary DES era. Methods ＆ Results This retrospective study sought to compare in-hospital and long-term outcomes for patients undergoing RA via the transradial （TR） and transfemoral （TF） route in 126 consecutive patients （59 radial, 67 femoral） from 2009 to 2014. TR RA procedures were performed in 44/62 （71%） by the three TR operators, compared with 15/64 （23%） by the four TF operators in the present study. Significantly smaller diameter guide catheters and burrs （1.39 ± 0.16 mm vs. 1.53 ± 0.24 mm, P = 0.001） were used in the TR group. Procedural success rates were similar in both TR and TF groups. There was a significantly less major access site bleeding complications in favor of radial artery access （2% vs. 16%, P = 0.012）. The incidence of in-hospital death or myocardial infarction was low in both groups. Although a trend of lower adverse event rate was demonstrated in the TR group compared with the TF one, no statistical significance （21% vs. 27%, P = 0.135） was detected. Conclusions Radial access, a useful alternative to femoral access for RA and DES, can be safely and successfully performed on up to 71% of the patients with heavily calcified coronary lesions needing RA by experienced TR operators.

To improve the mechanical properties of self-lubricating chromium vanadium nitride （CrVN） coatings, va- nadium nitride （VN） is combined with CrVN to form multilayered CrVN/VN coatings through an in-line magnetron sputtering system. The strengthening effect of the period thickness on the mechanical and tribological properties is studied. X-ray diffractometer, low-angle X-ray reflectivity, scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, electron probe micro-analyzer and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy are employed to characterize the microstructures and chemical composition. Nanoindentation and ball-on-disc tribo-tester are used in characterization of the mechanical and tribological properties. The CrVN/VN multilayer coatings demonstrate good lubrication property with coefficient of friction down to 0.23. Multilayering with VN, the hardness of CrVN jumps to 27.6 GPa with period thickness of 6 nm, which has an improvement of 5.1 GPa compared with that of 22.5 GPa from rule-of-mixture.
