The purpose of this study was to assess the acceptance of a model of construction and demolition waste-minimization practices by construction management senior *** approach assumed students can informally influence construction industry opinions,making their decisions vital to future construction-management education *** capstone class of the bachelor’s degree program of one of the foremost construction management programs in the country was the sample chosen to *** was found that a majority of the students were knowledgeable about all of the practices and had favorable opinions based on that *** had tried more than half of the practices on a limited basis and decided they would use the practices based on these *** largest part of the students did not have experience applying a good number of the practices;however,almost all of those with this experience would continue to use all the *** successful trial and application experiences and asking students how they became involved in such experiences would be useful in the implementation of a school plan to increase acceptance.

Due to the rapid adoption of Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, many construction management (CM) programs in the US have introduced BIM in their curriculum. Previous research has revealed that most of the BIM courses offered in CM programs have mainly focused on modeling skills as well as BIM applications in scheduling and estimating. While these topics appear to be important to apply BIM technology, students will not be able to fully understand the BIM process in a construction project without knowing the fundamental workflow of BIM. This paper presents a modular BIM course which was developed to help CM students better understand the BIM workflow and focuses on advanced uses of BIM in construction projects. The course contains three modules: BIM workflow, basic BIM applications, and advanced BIM applications. The BIM workflow module discusses how BIM is addressed in project delivery method, contract, the execution plan, and team building. The basic BIM applications module explains the typical BIM applications in coordination, scheduling, estimating, logistics, visualization, etc. The advanced BIM applications module demonstrates the latest technology advances in the AEC industry that utilizes BIM applications, including laser scanning, virtual reality, and mixed reality. The course objectives and assessment methods ensure that CM students’ understanding of BIM will be considerably improved from as a modeling tools or software program to an efficient process, and their insights into BIM will be significantly broadened beyond the existing 3D, 4D, and 5D applications. The highly positive course evaluation demonstrates the effectiveness of these approaches in meeting course objectives, delivering course materials, as well as raising students’ interest. This paper will serve as a case study of an advanced level BIM course in CM programs.

As BIM （building information modeling） became the gold standard of the architecture, construction, and engineering industry, lack of skilled BIM professionals is considered one of the major challenges. It is therefore of significant importance that CM （construction management） programs train future construction professionals in the capabilities and advantages of BIM technology. This paper presents the findings of a comprehensive review of the implementation of BIM education in CM programs and summarizes the process of BIM adoption, existing educational approaches, and identified challenges in the implementation process. The information presented in this paper serves as a guide to CM programs that are new to and in the progress of implementing BIM education.

The approach to meet the requirement of this situation is to adopt innovation ideas, improve the supply-demand structure of CME, reform the education system to relate theory to practice, pay attention to the needs of the educated, enhance global communication and cooperation, and improve the knowledge structure of teachers.

The construction of megaprojects has always resulted in extensive and long-term impacts on the ***,the performance of megaproject management is poor,and improving it remains an urgent and necessary *** many studies on megaproject success have been conducted,existing studies on the driving factors of successful megaproject construction are rather ***,this study aims to systematically explore the key factors that can lead to successful megaproject construction management based on three cases:The Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway,the Three Gorges Dam,and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao *** research methods,such as literature review,case studies,and expert interviews,were used in this ***,11 driving factors,namely,government support,public support,accumulation and application of technology and experience,development and innovation of technology,innovation and application of management system,organizational mode and structure,top management support,project culture,megaproject citizenship behavior,corporate reputation,and fulfillment of social responsibilities,were identified and grouped into five categories,namely,project environment,construction capabilities,organization,positive culture and behavior,and requirements for sustainable *** contributions of this study lie in two ***,the driving factors of successful megaproject construction are identified to deepen the understanding of industrial practitioners,assist them in focusing on key factors,and aid them in effectively managing ***,researchers could use the identified driving factors in conducting further empirical studies and apply them in future projects to enhance their chances of success.

Uniqueness of landscaping projects was analyzed,and cost was regarded as an important index evaluating performance of landscaping construction enterprises. Based on reviewing limitation of cost control on landscaping construction enterprises,enhancing construction management,controlling cost reasonably,and reducing project cost were proposed as the foundation and core content of enterprise cost management,and also the key to successful project *** combining with design practices,suggestions for enhancing construction management of landscaping project,controlling cost and improving profits were given.

This paper, based on Deming＇s quality management （QM） theory embodied in ISO 9001, uses structural equation modelling （SEM） in a construction management research. Based on 100 usable responses collected from a nationwide survey carried out from 14th February to 30th May 2008 on all key players in the Malaysian construction value chain, this paper aims to：（a） validate the dimensions of registration efforts to obtain and maintain ISO 9001 certifications; （b） validate the eight QM principles in ISO 9001 for quality management system （QMS） practices; （c） determine the components of organisational improvements experienced as a result of ISO 9001 certifications in terms of company competitiveness, customer satisfaction, and business performance; and （d） investigate the causal relationships among registration efforts, QMS practices, company competitiveness, customer satisfaction, business performance of ISO 9001-certified companies. The knowledge gained from the application of SEM is an important contribution to the body of theoretical literature in QM.

The procurement of public construction projects must walk a fine line between the corruption of state officials and collusion of contractors. The method of awarding projects to the lowest responsible tenderer was originally implemented to guard against corruption of state officials. However, an investigation of the construction industry in the Canadian province of Quebec showed that lowest-tender-offer procurement gave rise to collusion of companies tendering for the contracts. Alternatively, bestvalue procurement has been used for decades, but here problems arise owing to the necessity of subjective judging of measures other than price to compare bids, giving rise to time-and money-consuming protests. The paper proposes a compelling argument that the construction engineering management(CEM) culture should refocus its efforts on enhancing project cost certainty rather than merely searching for means to design a project in a manner that produces the lowest initial cost, and awards the construction to the lowest tender offer that focuses on cost savings during the project development and delivery process. The difference in the two approaches is subtle but extremely important. To make the transition, the engineering management tools must be advanced to the next *** means that all project control tools for managing cost,schedule, and technical scope must be transformed from working in the deterministic mode to the stochastic mode,thus making the probability of completing the projectwithin or below its official budget the primary decision criterion. To do so, CEMs must accept that there is a benefit in paying more for an alternative that increases cost certainty for the entire project. The authors of this paper hope that it will provide the grist for a more general dialog across all industry sectors where engineering management is practiced.
