Periodontal disease and risk of benign prostate hyperplasia: a cross-sectional study

Effect of Aidi injection plus chemotherapy on gastric carcinoma:a Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

OBJECTIVE: To conduct a Meta-analysis of studies on the effect of Aidi injectioncombined with chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone in the treatment of gastric cancer(GC).METHODS: Nine electronic databases and six gray literature databases were comprehensively searcheduntil April 20,2013. Two reviewers independently selected and assessed included trialsaccording to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The risk of bias tool from the Cochrane Handbook version 5.1.0was used to assess trial quality. All calculations were performed using Review Manager ***: Thirty-two studies including 1927 participants met the inclusion criteria,most of which were low quality. Compared with chemotherapy alone,Aidi injection plusthe same chemotherapy significantly improved the effective rate [OR = 1.52,95% CI(1.24,1.86),P < 0.0001],clinical beneficial rate [OR = 1.77,95% CI(1.33,2.36),P < 0.0001],and quality of life [OR = 3.02,95% CI(2.39,3.82),P <0.000 01]. There was a significant improvement in nausea and vomiting incidence [OR = 0.34,95%CI(0.24,0.47),P < 0.000 01],diarrhea [OR = 0.47,95%CI(0.33,0.69),P < 0.000 01],leukopenia( 3,0.51),P = 0.05],hemⅢ-ogⅣ)[OR = 0.34,95%CI(0.2lobin decrease(thromⅢ-boⅣ) [OR = 0.42,95%CI(0.18-1.00),P = 0.05],cytopenia(4],and Ⅲ-damⅣ) [OR = 0.46,95%CI(0.22,0.96),P = 0.0age to liver function [OR = 0.36,95%CI(0.24,0.54),P < 0.000 01].CONCLUSION: Aidi injection combined with chemotherapy significantly improved the clinical effect of chemotherapy,reducing the incidence of adverse events. Use of the CONSORT statement for randomized controlled trials is recommended for stricter reporting.

Kangfuxin(Periplaneta americana)Lotion for Adjunctive Treatment of Ulcerative Colitis:A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Objective: The objective of the study is to investigate the effect of Kangfuxin lotion as adjunctive therapy for treating ulcerative colitis(UC) through a systematic review and meta?analysis of randomized controlled trials(RCTs). Materials and Methods: RCTs comparing Kangfuxin lotion with no treatment, placebo, western medications or combination therapy for treatment of UC were included in this study. Two English and three Chinese electronic databases were searched. All searches ended in December 2017. Data and quality assessment carried out respectively. Rev Man 5.2 software(Copenhagen, The Nordic Cochrane Centre, The Cochrane Collaboration, 2014) was used to analyze with effect estimate presented as mean difference(MD), risk ratio(RR) and 95% confidence interval(CI). Results: Fifteen trials with 1050 participants were included in this review. Overall, 13 trials were eligible for meta?analysis. Kangfuxin lotion combined with Mesalazine was better than Mesalazine on clinical cure rate(RR 1.45, 95% CI 1.24–1.70, 7 trials), recurrence rate of UC(RR 0.22, 95% CI 0.07–0.72, 2 trials), or endoscopic mucosal recovery(RR 8.05, 95% CI 2.64–24.57, 2 trials). And Kangfuxin lotion combined with triple live bacteria tablets(Bifidobacterium-Lactobacillus? Streptococcus thermophilus)was superior with regard to symptoms remission rate(RR 5.36, 95% CI 1.73–16.60, 3 trials), endoscopic disease activity score(MD-2.30, 95% CI-2.64–-1.96, 1 trial). There were no reports on the serious adverse events of Kangfuxin lotion. Conclusion: Kangfuxin lotion as adjunctive treatment appears more effective than medications alone on clinical cure rate, recurrence rate, endoscopic mucosal recovery and improvement rate of related symptoms.

Background:Urinary tract infections(UTI),urolithiasis,and benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH)are three of the most common nonmalignant conditions in ***,there is still a lack of comprehensive and updated epidemiological *** study aimed to investigate the disease burden of UTI,urolithiasis,and BPH in 203 countries and territories from 1990 to ***:Data were extracted from the Global Burden of Disease 2019,including incident cases,deaths,disabilityadjusted life-years(DALYs)and corresponding age-standardized rate(ASR)from 1990 to *** annual percentage changes(EAPC)were calculated to evaluate the trends of *** associations between disease burden and social development degrees were analyzed using a sociodemographic index(SDI).Results:Compared with 1990,the incident cases of UTI,urolithiasis,and BPH increased by 60.40%,48.57%,and 105.70%in 2019,*** age-standardized incidence rate(ASIR)of UTI increased(EAPC=0.08),while urolithiasis(EAPC=–0.83)and BPH(EAPC=–0.03)decreased from 1990 to *** 2019,the age-standardized mortality rate(ASMR)of UTI and urolithiasis were 3.13/100,000 and 0.17/100,000,*** had the largest increase(110.56%)in DALYs in the past three decades,followed by UTI(68.89%)and urolithiasis(16.95%).The burden of UTI was mainly concentrated in South Asia and Tropical Latin America,while the burden of urolithiasis and BPH was recorded in Asia and Eastern ***,the ASIR and SDI of urolithiasis in high-SDI regions from 1990to 2019 were negatively correlated,while the opposite trend was seen in low-SDI *** 2019,the ASIR of UTI in females was 3.59 times that of males,while the ASIR of urolithiasis in males was 1.96 times higher than that in *** incidence was highest in the 30–34,55–59,and 65–69 age groups among the UTI,urolithiasis,and BPH groups,***:Over the past three decades,the disease burden has increased for UTI but decreased for urolithiasis and BPH

Content analysis of systematic reviews on effectiveness ofTraditional Chinese medicine

Risk assessment model for endpoints of ischemic stroke: A study protocol for a registry study

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the risk of ischemic stroke endpoints by establishing risk assessment models that combine Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and modern medicine ***/DESIGN: The proposed study is a registry-based participant survey conducted in seven hospitals nationwide in China. After obtaining informed consent, 3000 patients diagnosed with ischemic stroke will be recruited. One-year follow-ups will be performed on-site in hospitals and by telephone to track endpoint events. Comparative analysis of the prevalence of endpoint events and other TCM or modern medicine features in different groups will be conducted using frequency analysis and χ2tests, and the results will be expressed as composition ratios. Comparative analysis of quantitative scores and related patterns or symptoms will be conducted using a rank-sum test. Correlation analysis of endpoint events and TCM or modern medicine factors will be performed using a multivariate Cox proportional hazard ***: Previous reports have described modern medicine indicator-based risk assessment models for ischemic stroke endpoint events, but no such studies have included TCM features. Our new risk assessment model combines TCM and modern medicine indicators and thus has the potential to facilitate early warning, early intervention, and early control of ischemic stroke endpoint events.

Clinicopathological and prognostic role of MMP-9 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: a meta-analysis

Objective： Many studies reported that matrix metalloproteinase-9 （MMP-9） participated in the development of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma （ESCC） and resulted in poor prognosis, however, they all included few patients and had inconsistent results. So we conducted a meta-analysis to explore the correlation between overexpression of MMP-9 and the clinicopathological characteristics and overall survival （OS） of ESCC. Methods： PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, Google Scholar and other databases were searched for relevant studies. The Newcastle-Ottawa quality assessment scale was used to assess the methodological quality of included study and RevMan 5.2 software was used to conduct meta-analysis. Results： A total of 35 studies were included, and the results of meta-analysis showed that overexpression of MMP-9 was associated with grade of differentiation [well/moderate vs. poor： odds ratio （OR）： 0.39, 95% confidence interval （CI）： 0.29-0.52; P〈0.00001], lymph node metastasis （negative vs. positive： OR： 0.24, 95% CI： 0.16-0.34; P〈0.00001）, TNM stage （T1/T2 vs. T3/T4： OR： 0.28, 95% CI： 0.14-0.54; P=0.0002）, the depth of invasion （T1/T2 vs. T3/T4： OR： 0.29, 95% CI： 0.17-0.49; P〈0.00001）, and vascular invasion of ESCC （negative vs. positive： OR： 0.35, 95% CI： 0.21-0.58; P〈0.0001）, and also associated with poor overall survival ofESCC （HR： 2.17, 95% CI： 1.32-3.57; P=0.002）. Subgroup analysis showed that more than 10% of carcinoma cell staining was associated with significant increase of mortality risk （HR： 2.44, 95 % CI： 1.16-5.15; P=0.02）, and sensitive analysis suggested that MMP-9 was an independent prognostic factor in ESCC （HR： 1.49, 95% CI： 1.16-1.91; P=0.002）. Conclusions：On the basis of limited evidence, overexpression of MMP-9 may be a potential independent prognosis factor of ESCC patients in Asia, and high-quality studies assessing the prognostic significance of MMP-9 for ESCC patients are still needed.

Retrieval,reporting and methodological characteristics for systematic reviews/meta-analyses of animal models:a meta-epidemiological study

The study aimed to analyze the reporting and methodological quality of systematic reviews(SRs)/meta-analyses(MAs)of animal models to provide references for later studies and avoid the waste of medical *** and MEDLINE databases were searched from inception to November 2017,with no language *** reviewers selected inclusion dependently and extracted the basic *** Manager 5.3,stata 12.0,and SPSS 21 software were used to conduct analyses.A total of 46 SRs/MAs were *** results showed that the English databases with high retrieval frequency are PubMed/MEDLINE,EMBASE,and Web of Science.67.31%(31/46)of the articles reported the search strategy in the full text or the appendix.65.22%(30/46)reported the literature screening flow diagram,and only 19.57%(9/46)reported the number of works of literature retrieved in each database.60.87%(28/46)illustrated supplement *** 2 subgroup analyses,it was found that there were no significant differences in the quality of reports of PRISMA *** referring to the methodological quality or reporting of PRESS items,SCI was better than that of non-SCI,while there seemed a source of funding to have no significant impact on the methodological quality or the items of *** results of PRESS,AMSTAR 2,and PRISMA were correlated,and the correlation between PRISMA and AMSTAR 2 was *** results demonstrated that search strategies of animal model SRs/MAs are still not enough comprehensive,report specification and methodological quality still need to be *** show users the scientificity and rigor of the study,future research should focus on these various guidelines like PRESS,PRISMA,and AMSTAR 2 checklists that have been issued,it can help to increase the value of research and improve the utilization of medical resources.

Biotransformation Effect of Bombyx Mori L. May Play An Important Role in Treating Diabetic Nephropathy

Compared with herbal drugs, medicine processed from animals(animal medicine) was thought to have more bioactive substances and higher activities. Biotransformation effect often plays an important role in their effect. However, researches about effect of animal medicine on diabetic nephropathy and applying animal medicine as natural bio-transformer were seldom reported. The purpose of this paper was to reveal the use of Bombyx Mori L. on diabetic nephropathy from ancient to modern times. The classical literature indicated that Saosi Decoction(缫丝汤), which contains Bombyx Mori L. or silkworm cocoon, was applied to treat disorders congruent with modern disease diabetic nephropathy from the Ming to Qing Dynasty in ancient China. Modern studies showed that Bombyx Mori L. contains four main active constituents. Among these, 1-deoxynojirimycin(1-DNJ) and quercetin showed promising potential to be new agents in diabetic nephropathy treatment. The concentrations of 1-DNJ and the activities of quercetin in Bombyx Mori L. are higher than in mulberry leaves, because of the biotransformation in the Bombyx Mori L. body. However, these specific components need further human and mechanistic studies to determine their therapeutic potential for this challenging condition.
