There is a need to develop interventions to slow or reverse the degeneration of dopamine neurons in Parkinson’s disease after *** that preclinical and clinical studies suggest benefits of dietary n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids,such as docosahexaenoic acid,and exercise in Parkinson’s disease,we investigated whether both could synergistically interact to induce recovery of the dopaminergic ***,mice received a unilateral stereotactic injection of 6-hydroxydopamine into the striatum to establish an animal model of nigrostriatal *** weeks after lesion,animals were fed a docosahexaenoic acid-enriched or a control diet for the next 8 *** this period,the animals had access to a running wheel,which they could use or *** acid treatment,voluntary exercise,or the combination of both had no effect on(i)distance traveled in the open field test,(ii)the percentage of contraversive rotations in the apomorphine-induction test or(iii)the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive cells in the substantia nigra pars ***,the docosahexaenoic acid diet increased the number of tyrosine-hydroxylase-positive terminals and induced a rise in dopamine concentrations in the lesioned *** to docosahexaenoic acid treatment or exercise alone,the combination of docosahexaenoic acid and exercise(i)improved forelimb balance in the stepping test,(ii)decreased the striatal DOPAC/dopamine ratio and(iii)led to increased dopamine transporter levels in the lesioned *** present results suggest that the combination of exercise and docosahexaenoic acid may act synergistically in the striatum of mice with a unilateral lesion of the dopaminergic system and provide support for clinical trials combining nutrition and physical exercise in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease.

Differences in oxidative stress dependence between gastric adenocarcinoma subtypes

AIM： To investigate the extent of oxidative stress in preneoplastic and neoplastic gastric mucosa in relation to their pathological criteria and histological subtypes. METHODS： A total of 104 gastric adenocarcinomas from 98 patients （88 infiltrative and 16 intraepithelial tumors） were assessed immunohistochemically for expression of iNOS and occurrence of nitrotyrosine （NTYR）-containing proteins and 8-hydroxy-2＇-deoxyguanosine （8-OH- dG）-containing DNA, as markers of NO production and damages to protein and DNA. RESULTS： Tumor cells staining for iNOS, NTYR and 8-OH-dG were detected in 41%, 62% and 50% of infiltrative carcinoma, respectively. The three markers were shown for the first time in intraepithelial carcinoma. The expression of iNOS was significantly more frequent in tubular carcinoma （TC） compared to diffuse carcinoma （DC）（54% vs 18%; P=0.008） or in polymorphous carcinoma （PolyC）（54% vs 21% ; P=0.04）. NTYR staining was obviously more often found in TC than that in PolyC （72% vs 30% ; P=0.03）. There was a tendency towards a higher rate of iNOS staining when distant metastasis （pM） was present. In infiltrative TC, the presence of oxidative stress markers was not significantly correlated with histological grade, density of inflammation, the depth of infiltration （pT）, lymph nodes dissemination （pN） and pathological stages （pTNM）.CONCLUSION： The iNOS-oxidative pathway may play an important role in TC, but moderately in PolyC and DC. DNA oxidation and protein nitration occur in the three subtypes. Based on the significant differences of NTYR levels, TC and PolyC appear as two distinct subtypes.

Growth Inhibition Occurs Independently of Cell Mortality in Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) Exposed to High Cadmium Concentrations

In order to analyze the adaptation potential of tomato shoots to a sudden increase in Cd concentration, tomato plants （Solanum lycopersicum L. var. Ailsa Craig） were exposed under controlled environmental conditions to a high dose of this heavy metal （250 μm CdCl2） in nutrient solution for 7 and 14d. Both root and shoot growth was completely inhibited but all plants remained alive until the end of the treatment. Cell viability remained unaffected but the activity of the mitochondrial alternative pathway was stimulated by Cd stress at the expense of the cytochrome pathway. Cadmium concentration was higher in roots than in shoots and a decrease in the rate of net Cd translocation was noticed during the second week of stress. Cadmium decreased both leaf conductance （gl） and chlorophyll concentration. However, the effect on net CO2 assimilation remained limited and soluble sugars accumulated in leaves. Photochemical efficiency of PSII （FvlFm） was not affected despite a decrease in the number of reaction centers and an inhibition of electron transfer to acceptors of PSII. It is concluded that tomato shoot may sustain short term exposure to high doses of cadmium despite growth inhibition. This property implies several physiological strategies linked to both avoidance and tolerance mechanisms.

Does insect mother know under what conditions it will make their offspring live？

According to the optimal oviposition theory, the larval success of insects depends on the oviposition site selection by females. Females are expected to choose a site with many resources and few competitors or predators to allow the best performance for their progeny, assuming that ＂mother knows best.＂ However, this is not systematically observed. The Aphidoletes aphidimyza larvae are generalist aphid predators and females consequently lay their eggs near or inside aphid colonies. The goal of this study was to investigate the impact ofintraspecific competition on oviposition behavior of A. aphidimyza females. First, we counted the number of eggs laid by a female on a leaf with 20 aphids, in the presence of 0, 2, 4, or 6 conspecific eggs or in the absence of eggs but in presence of 3 virgin females. The same experiment was also performed under choice condition with 2 oviposition sites. Our results show that the presence of low densities ofconspecific eggs, or the presence of conspecific females, have no significant impact on the number of eggs laid by A. aphidimyza females. One of the hypotheses advanced to explain these results is the advantages of conspecifics presence. At low densities, the presence of eggs on an oviposition site can indicate the suitability of the site for the females. The conspecific presence can also insure a dilution effect against predator and increase the presence of potential mating partners for this monogenic species.

Understanding the local structure and thermophysical behavior of Mg-la liquid alloys via machine learning potential

The local structure and thermophysical behavior of Mg-la liquid alloys were in-depth understood using deep potential molecular dynamic(DPMD) simulation driven via machine learning to promote the development of Mg-la alloys. The robustness of the trained deep potential(DP) model was thoroughly evaluated through several aspects, including root-mean-square errors(RMSEs), energy and force data, and structural information comparison results;the results indicate the carefully trained DP model is reliable. The component and temperature dependence of the local structure in the Mg-la liquid alloy was analyzed. The effect of Mg content in the system on the first coordination shell of the atomic pairs is the same as that of temperature. The pre-peak demonstrated in the structure factor indicates the presence of a medium-range ordered structure in the Mg-la liquid alloy, which is particularly pronounced in the 80at% Mg system and disappears at elevated temperatures. The density, self-diffusion coefficient, and shear viscosity for the Mg-la liquid alloy were predicted via DPMD simulation, the evolution patterns with Mg content and temperature were subsequently discussed, and a database was established accordingly. Finally, the mixing enthalpy and elemental activity of the Mg-la liquid alloy at 1200 K were reliably evaluated,which provides new guidance for related studies.

Disaster Impacts Surveillance from Social Media with Topic Modeling and Feature Extraction: Case of Hurricane Harvey

Twitter can supply useful information on infrastructure impacts to the emergency managers during major disasters,but it is time consuming to filter through many irrelevant *** studies have identified the types of messages that can be found on social media during disasters,but few solutions have been proposed to efficiently extract useful *** present a framework that can be applied in a timely manner to provide disaster impact information sourced from social *** framework is tested on a well-studied and data-rich case of Hurricane *** procedures consist of filtering the raw Twitter data based on keywords,location,and tweet attributes,and then applying the latent Dirichlet allocation(LDA) to separate the tweets from the disaster affected area into categories(topics) useful to emergency *** LDA revealed that out of 24 topics found in the data,nine were directly related to disaster impacts-for example,outages,closures,flooded roads,and damaged *** such as frequent hashtags,mentions,URLs,and useful images were then extracted and *** relevant tweets,along with useful images,were correlated at the county level with flood depth,distributed disaster aid(damage),and population *** correlations were found between the nine relevant topics and population density but not flood depth and damage,suggesting that more research into the suitability of social media data for disaster impacts modeling is *** results from this study provide baseline information for such efforts in the future.

Nutritional Quality of Meat from Cattle Breed in Livestock Production Area of Cameroon

In Cameroon, foods of animal origin are an important part of the population’s diet. To improve meat consumption and assure its safety, the Government plan a project for the industrialization of cattle and pig industries by building a slaughter chain, cold stores and acquiring of vehicles and trucks for the transport of meat from livestock production areas to other parts of the country. Maroua city in the Far North Region has been selected to host a modern mixed slaughterhouse with a slaughter capacity of 150 cattle/day. To assess the impact of this project, it is important to define a baseline in term of beef quality prior to the implementation of such a project. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the nutritional quality of beef in Maroua (as a reference for livestock production area in Cameroon) in relation to demographics of cattle (production system, type of production, age, breed, body condition score [BCS], and sex). In 2014, data on demographics of 202 cattle, randomly selected in the traditional slaughterhouses of Maroua were collected. At the end of the slaughter chain, approximately 250 g of thigh were sampled from each animal selected. However, 76 randomly selected thigh meat samples were suggested for chemical composition analysis by using standard methods. Results revealed that dry matter (26.30% - 29.88% of fresh matter), ash (0.92% - 1.09% of fresh matter), total fat (10.12 - 19.58 of fresh matter) and protein (8.60% - 27.59% of fresh matter) content of beef were between the acceptable ranges for table meats. The total protein content found was affected by the BCS, the age at slaughter, the breed and the sex of the animal. In addition, as expected, the total fat content increased with the BCS and varied with the age at slaughter and the type of production.
