Objective:To assess the effect of short-term gavage of ethanolic extract of Imperata cylindrica L root on the ovarian activity and estrus behavior of female ***:Eighteen virgin female ddY mice,8 to 10 weeks of age,weighing 22-25 g with regular estrus cycle,were divided into three *** 1 received 0.5%carboxymethylcellulose,whereas Groups 2 and 3 received the ethanolic extract of Imperata cylindrica L root at 90 and 115 mg/kg body weight(b.w.)per day by gavage for 20 days,*** of the groups were checked before 9 *** for vaginal cytology to determine the estrus *** day 21,the mice were sacrificed to collect serum samples to quantify the concentrations of reproductive hormones using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and to determine changes in the reproductive organs based on their reproductive organ weight,histomorphology,and histomorphometry of ovarium and ***:The reproductive organ weight in the treatment groups was similar compared with that in the control *** 90 mg/kg *** group showed an increase in corpus luteum number when compared with the control group,with few degenerated follicles and diminished ***,the 115 mg/kg *** group showed fewer primordial and primary follicles and an increase in corpus luteum number and a prolonged diestrus phase compared to the control and 90 mg/kg *** *** histomorphology examination of the uterus showed that the thickness of myometrium and epithelium in the treated animals was similar to the control *** addition,there was a significant decrease in follicle-stimulating hormone level in the 115 mg/kg *** group(P<0.05).Conclusions:Short-term gavage of ethanolic extract of Imperata cylindrica L root reduces the follicle-stimulating hormone serum level and folliculogenesis.

Neurotransmitters of the central nervous system were the important way to study the mechanism of anesthesia. The effect of different doses of xylazine anesthetic on the glutamate(Glu) and γ-aminobutyric-acid(GABA) were investigated and the mechanism of xylazine anesthetic on the central nervous system were explored in this study. A total of 88 rats were randomly divided into three groups, including normal saline control group, group with low dose of xylazine and group with high dose of ***, cerebellum, hippocampus, thalamus and brainstem were collected. The results showed that the concentration of Glu in the hippocampus, thalamus and brainstem decreased first and then increased, but it increased first and then decreased in the cerebrum and cerebellum during the period of anesthesia. The concentration of GABA in the cerebrum, thalamus, brainstem and hippocampus increased first and then decreased. The results showed that xylazine inhibited Glu and promoted GABA with different dose dependence. The results and methods could provide guides for the clinical use of xylazine.

Anisakiasis caused by anisakid nematodes is an emerging infectious disease that can cause a wide range of clinical syndromes and are difficult to diagnose and treat in *** spite of their significance as pathogens,the systematics,genetics,epidemiology and biology of these parasites remain poorly *** the present study,we sequenced the complete mitochondrial(mt) genome of Pseudoterranova azarasi(sensu stricto,s.s.),which is one of the most important zoonotic anisakid *** circular mt genome is 13,954 bp in size and encodes of 36 genes,including 12 protein-coding,2 ribosomal RNA and 22 transfer RNA *** mt gene order of *** *** the same as those of Ascaris spp.(Ascarididae),Toxocara spp.(Toxocaridae) and Anisakis simplex(Anisakidae),but distinct from those of Ascaridia spp.(Ascaridiidae) and Cucullanus robustus(Cucullanidae).Phylogenetic analyses based on concatenated amino acid sequences of 12 protein-coding genes by Bayesian inference(BI) showed that Pseudoterranova were more closely related to Anisakis than they were to Contracaecum with strong a posterior probability *** mt genome provides a novel genetic markers for exploring cryptic/sibling species and host affiliations,and should have implications for the diagnosis,prevention and control of anisakiasis in humans.

Proteins of the Smad family are essential cellular mediators of the transforming growth factor-β(TGF-β) superfamily that directly transmit incoming signals from the cell surface receptors to the *** spite of their functional importance,almost nothing is known about Smad proteins in parasitic *** the present study,we identified a homologueofDAF-8 representing the receptor-regulated Smad(R-Smad) subfamily of the free-living nematode Caenorhabditis elegans,called Hc-DAF-8,in the parasitic nematode Haemonchus *** features of Hc-DAF-8(502 amino acids),including conserved R-Smad domains,and characteristic residues in the L3 loop involved in Smad-anchoring for receptor activation(SARA),are consistent with a TGF-β type I receptor-activated *** Hc-daf-8 gene was transcribed in all developmental stages of *** studied,with a high level in fourth-stage(L4) females and the highest level in adult *** ***,this protein was localised to the platymyarian muscular cells,intestine and reproductive system of L4 and adult *** assessment showed that Hc-daf-8 was able to rescue gene function in a daf-8 deficient mutant strain of ***,leading to a resumption of normal development in this free-living worm.A specific inhibitor of human Smad3(SIS3) was shown to affect *** development in *** together,these results suggest that Hc-DAF-8,encoded by the gene Hc-daf-8,is an important cellular mediator of *** development via the TGF-βsignalling *** findings underpin future explorations of this pathway in *** and other important parasitic nematodes.

Taenia asiatica is one of the most important food-borne parasites and posts a great threat to human *** far little is known about a specific infection and immune escape mechanism of ***,exosome-like vesicles have been emerging as a regulator in the interactions between parasites and hosts,which provide a new sight for the research on the infection of ***,exosome-like vesicles were collected from the excretory/secretory products of cultured *** and purified by differential *** purified vesicles,ranging from 50 to 150 nm in size,were identified as exosomes by transmission electron microscope and nanoparticle tracking *** analysis showed that a total of 843 proteins were identified in the exosome-like vesicles(737 from *** and 106 from the host) and enzymes involved in metabolic processes,such as glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate dehydrogenase,fructose 1,6 bisphosphate aldolase,cytosolic malate dehydrogenase,enolase and so on,were enriched in *** abundant proteins from proteomic analysis 14-3-3 and enolase were present in the exosome-like vesicles by Immunogold labeling ***,we validated the expressions of *** mi RNAs,including 6 known mi RNAs(tas-mi R-71,tas-mi R-1,tas-mi R-7,tas-mi R-9,tas-mi R-10,tas-let-7) and 3 novel mi RNAs(tas-m0022-3 p,tas-m0816-3 p,tas-m0082-5 p).The eight mi RNAs expression levels were mainly consistent with those obtained by high-throughput ***,we also demonstrated that these exosomes were internalized by Lo Vo cells in vitro through uptake experiment of exosome-like vesicles labeled with the green fluorescent dye *** study firstly isolated and identified exosome-like vesicles derived from *** adult worms,and described molecular characteristics of some cargoes loaded on these ***,exosome-like vesicles were internalized by Lo Vo *** findings provide new insights into the interaction between

Rabies virus(RABV)is an infectious and neurotropic pathogen that causes rabies and infects humans and almost all warm-blooded animals,posing a great threat to people and public *** is well known that innate immunity is the critical first line of host defense against viral *** monitors the invading pathogens by recognizing the pathogen-associated molecular patterns and danger-associated molecular patterns through pattern-recognition receptors,leading to the production of type I interferons(IFNα/β),inflammatory cytokines,and chemokines,or the activation of autophagy or apoptosis to inhibit virus *** the case of RABV,the innate immune response is usually triggered when the skin or muscle is bitten or ***,RABV has evolved many ways to escape or even hijack innate immune response to complete its own replication and eventually invades the central nervous system(CNS).Once RABV reaches the CNS,it cannot be wiped out by the immune system or any ***,a better understanding of the interplay between RABV and innate immu-nity is necessary to develop effective strategies to combat its ***,we review the innate immune responses induced by RABV and illustrate the antagonism mechanisms of RABV to provide new insights for the control of rabies.

Feline calicivirus(FCV)is an important feline pathogen mainly causing upper respiratory tract disease,conjunctivitis,and stomatitis,and it is classifed into genotype I and genotype *** investigate the prevalence and molecular characteristics of FCV,this study collected 337 cat swab samples from animal hospitals in diferent regions of China from 2019 to *** positive detection rate of FCV was 29.9%(101/337)by *** analysis showed that FCV prevalence was signifcantly associated with living environment(p=0.0004),age(p=0.031)and clinical symptoms(p=0.00),but not with sex(p=0.092)and breed(p=0.171).The 26 strains of FCV were isolated using F81 *** analysis showed that 10 isolates belonged to genotype I,and 16 isolates belonged to genotype *** 26 isolates were highly genetically diverse,of which HB7 isolate had three same virulence-related amino acid loci with VSD *** loci distinguishing diferent genotypes were identifed from 26 isolates,suggesting the genetic relationship between diferent *** addition,selection pressure analysis based on capsid protein of 26 isolates revealed that the protein is under diversifying *** study reveals the genetic diversity of FCV and provides a reference for the screening of vaccine candidate strains and the development of vaccines with better cross-protection efects.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is among the most alarming pathogens affecting both humans and the global bovine industry. The current control measures in hospitals and on farms for MRSA have proven to be inadequate leaving a need for new rapid control methods to curb MRSA infections in situ. New control measures for bacterial infection are widely sought, with particular interest in the applications for bacteriophages (phages) as a biocontrol or therapeutic agent. The current study uses a wild highly lytic phage isolated from cow’s milk taken from three farms in Baghdad, Iraq. The resulting phage was able to rescue 100% of the mice from a median lethal dose (LD50) or (1 × 108 CFU mL-1 per mouse) for MRSA wild isolates achieved when the phage: bacteria ratio was 100:1. Even when treatment was delayed for 6 h post lethal infection, to the point where all mice were moribund, 80% of them were rescued by a single injection of this phage preparation. Based on the current results, a comprehensive study is needed to guide further research on the MRSA phage as a biocontrol for MRSA mastitis in dairy cows to replace or reduce the use of antibiotics in animal husbandry.
