In this paper, an analytical scientific approach is presented for the design and analysis of an air-turbine-driven paint spray spindle, and it is used to improve further the design concept of the existing spindle applied in automotive coating and paint spraying applications. The current spindle on the market can operate at a maximum speed of 100,000 rpm and features a maximum bell size of 70 mm diameter. Given the increasing demands for high automotive coating/painting quality and productivity in assembly, the design and development of a paint spray spindle with a speed of 145,000 rpm or higher is needed. Computational fluid dynamics(CFD)-based simulation is applied in the approach. Accordingly, CFD simulation-based design and analysis are undertaken, covering the characteristic factors of velocity, pressure of the air supply, rotational speed of the air-turbine, and torque and force reaction on the turbine blades. Furthermore, the turbine blade geometric shape is investigated through the simulations. Three geometrical concepts have been investigated against the original model. The results on Concept_03 verified the higher angular velocity speeds against the theoretical model. The pressure and velocity effects in the blades have been investigated. The results show that the pressure and velocity of the air supply driving the turbine are critical factors influencing the stability of turbine spinning. The results also demonstrate that the force acting on the blades is at the highest level when the adjacent face changes from a straight surface into a curve. Finally, changing the geometrical shape in the turbine likely increases the tangential air pressure at the blades surface and relatively increases the magnitude of the lateral torque and force in the spindle. Notwithstanding this condition, the analytical values surpass the theoretical target values.

A coupled variable-coefficient higher-order nonlinear Schr(o|¨)dinger equation in biretringent fiber is studied,and analytical multi-soliton,combined bright and dark soliton,W-shaped and M-shaped soliton solutions are obtained.Nonlinear tunnelling of these combined solitons in dispersion barrier and dispersion well on an exponential background is discussed,and the decaying or increasing,even lossless tunnelling behaviors of combined solitons are decided by the decaying or increasing parameter.

Smart Cutting Tools and Smart Machining: Development Approaches, and Their Implementation and Application Perspectives

Smart machining has tremendous potential and is becoming one of new generation high value precision manufacturing technologies in line with the advance of Industry 4.0 concepts. This paper presents some innovative design concepts and, in particular, the development of four types of smart cutting tools, including a force-based smart cutting tool, a temperature-based internally-cooled cutting tool, a fast tool servo （FTS） and smart collets for ultra- precision and micro manufacturing purposes. Implemen- tation and application perspectives of these smart cutting tools are explored and discussed particularly for smart machining against a number of industrial application requirements. They are contamination-free machining, machining of tool-wear-prone Si-based infra-red devices and medical applications, high speed micro milling and micro drilling, etc. Furthermore, implementation tech- niques are presented focusing on：（a） plug-and-produce design principle and the associated smart control algo- rithms, （b） piezoelectric film and surface acoustic wave transducers to measure cutting forces in process, （c） critical cutting temperature control in real-time machining, （d） in- process calibration through machining trials, （e） FE-based design and analysis of smart cutting tools, and （f） applica- tion exemplars on adaptive smart machining.

Aerospace manufacturing SMEs are continuously facing the challenge on managing their supply chain and complying with the aerospace manufacturing quality standard requirement due to their lack of resources and the nature of business. In this paper, the ERP system based approach is presented to quality control and assurance work in light of seamless integration of in-process production data and information internally and therefore managing suppliers more effectively and efficiently. The Aerospace Manufacturing Quality Assurance Standard （BS/EN9100） is one of the most recognised and essential protocols for developing the industry-operated-and-driven quality assurance systems. The research investigates using the ERP based system as an enabler to implement BS/EN9100 quality management system at manufacturing SMEs and the associated implementation and application perspectives. An application case study on a manufacturing SME is presented by using the SAP based implementation, which helps fiarther evaluate and validate the approach and application system development.

In this paper, a method to design bird-strike-resistant aircraft structures is presented and illustrated through examples. The focus is on bird strike experiments and simulations. The explicit finite element software PAM-CRASH is employed to conduct bird strike simulations, and a coupled Smooth Particles Hydrodynamic（SPH） and Finite Element（FE） method is used to simulate the interaction between a bird and a target structure. The SPH method is explained, and an SPH bird model is established. Constitutive models for various structural materials, such as aluminum alloys, composite materials, honeycomb, and foam materials that are used in aircraft structures,are presented, and model parameters are identified by conducting various material tests. Good agreements between simulation results and experimental data suggest that the numerical model is capable of predicting the dynamic responses of various aircraft structures under a bird strike,and numerical simulation can be used as a tool to design bird-strike-resistant aircraft structures.

Pricing Game Model of Wasted Clothing Recycling and Remanufacturing Based on Government Subsidy

In the global environment of pursuing resource regeneration and green environmental protection, more and more wasted clothing need to be solved. In order to make full use of the wasted clothing and save land and soil resources, an idea of wasted clothing's recycling and remanufacturing is put forward. In the new idea a pricing game model is established basing on Stacklberg differential game theory between traditional and remanufactured clothing. In this model, the differences in consumers' willingness to pay and the government's subsidies are considered. Government's optimal subsidy are obtained which ensure not only the interests of manufacturers but also environmental reputation and maximum social benefits. The study is helpful to push the wasted clothing's recycling and remanufacturing plan. It makes some index more precise quantification as government's subsidy, manufacturers and the social benefits. Government and manufactures can make the detailed cooperation plan reference to it.

Experimental and numerical investigation on opposing plasma synthetic jet for drag reduction

Experimental and numerical studies are carried out to validate the potential of opposing Plasma Synthetic Jet(PSJ)for drag reduction for a hemisphere.Firstly,flow field changes of opposing PSJ are analyzed by comparing the experimental schlieren images and simulation results in a supersonic free stream of Mach number 3.As PSJ is a kind of unsteady pulsed jet,the shock standoff distance increases initially and then decreases under the control of PSJ,which corresponds to the change of the strength of PSJ.Accordingly,the amount of drag reduction of the hemisphere increases initially and then decreases.It is found that there is a short period of“drag rise”during the formation of PSJ before the drag reduction,which is induced by the generation of normal shock waves and the area difference of the cavity wall of PSJ Actuator(PSJA).Secondly,the effects of five parameters,including exit diameter,discharge energy of PSJA,Mach number,static pressure of incoming flow and angle of attack,on drag reduction of opposing PSJ were studied in detail by using numerical method.It is found that the Maximum Pressure Ratio(MPR)has a significant impact on the average drag reduction for a configuration-determined PSJA.For the configuration selected in this study,the flow field of opposing PSJ shows typical Short Penetration Mode(SPM)in a control cycle of PSJ when the MPR is less than 0.89.However,the flow field shows typical Long Penetration Mode(LPM)at some time when the MPR is bigger than 0.89.Relatively better drag reduction is achieved in this case.

In order to study the feasibility of strengthening of segmental tunnel linings by using steel-concrete composites(SCC),a three-dimensional(3D)finite element(FE)model is proposed in this paper.The nonlinear mechanical behavior of concrete is described by a plastic-damage model.The nonlinearity,resulting from the interface of the SCC and reinforced concrete(RC)segments,is simulated with the help of a system of springs.The analysis results are compared with those obtained from a full-scale test of a tunnel segment.Their agreement validates the usefulness of the 3D FE model.Numerical re-analysis of the test shows that the interfacial connectors govern both the strengthening effect of SCC and the failure pattern of the strengthened segments.Thus,the force-transmitting capacity of the interfacial connectors should be concerned in design activities.As regards the circular segments,the interfacial connectors refer to both the shearing and the stripping connectors.The composite effect of the SCC and RC segments increases with the increasing number of these connectors.The latter,therefore,results in the increases of the bearing capacities and stiffnesses of the strengthened segments.Those increases become insignificant as the number of these connectors is sufficient to ensure a perfect composite effect of the SCC and RC segments.In addition,the numerical simulations show that using high-performance steel shell(HPS)or/and ultra-high-performance concrete(UHPC)is an effective way to increase the strengthening effect of SCCs.
