An association study of HFEgene mutation with idiopathic male infertility in the chinese Han population

Mutations in the haemochromatosis gene （HFE） influence iron status in the general population of Northern Europe, and excess iron is associated with the impairment of spermatogenesis. The aim of this study is to investigate the association between three mutations （C282Y, H63D and S65C） in the HFEgene with idiopathic male infertility in the chinese Han population. Two groups of chinese men were recruited： 444 infertile men （including 169 with idiopathic azoospermia） and 423 controls with proven fertility. The HFEgene was detected using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism （PCR-RFLP） technique. The experimental results demonstrated that no C282Y or $65C mutations were detected. Idiopathic male infertility was not significantly associated with heterozygous H63D mutation （odds ratio=O.801, 95% confidence interval=0.452-1.421, X2=0.577, P=0.448）. The H63D mutation frequency did not correlate significantly with the serum luteinizing hormone （LH）, follicle-stimulating hormone （FSH） and testosterone （T） levels in infertile men （P=0.896, P=0.404 and P=O.05, respectively）. Our data suggest that the HFEH63D mutation is not associated with idiopathic male reproductive dysfunction.

Melatonin(Mel)has previously been reported to effectively alleviate nitrogen-limitation(N-L)stress and thus increase nitrogen-use efficiency(NUE)in several plants,but the underlying mechanism remains ***,we revealed that OsbZIP79(basic LEUCINE ZIPPER 79)is transcriptionally activated under N-L conditions,and its expression is further enhanced by exogenous *** the combined use of omics,genetics,and biological techniques,we revealed that the OsbZIP79–OsABI5(ABSCISIC ACID INSENSITIVE 5)module stimulated regulation of reactive oxygen species(ROS)homeostasis and the uptake and metabolismof nitrogen under conditions of indoor nitrogen limitation(1/16 normal level).OsbZIP79 activated the transcription of OsABI5,and OsABI5 then bound to the promoters of target genes,including genes involved in ROS homeostasis and nitrogen metabolism,activating their *** module was also indispensable for upregulation of several other genes involved in abscisic acid catabolism,nitrogen uptake,and assimilation under N-L and Mel treatment,although these genes were not directly transactivated by *** experiments demonstrated that Mel significantly improved rice growth under low nitrogen(L-N,half the normal level)by the same mechanism revealed in the nitrogen-limitation *** application produced a 28.6%yield increase under L-N and thus similar increases in ***,two OsbZIP79-overexpression lines grown in L-N field plots had significantly higher NUE(+13.7%and+21.2%)than their wild ***,our data show that an OsbZIP79–OsABI5 module regulates the rice response to N insufficiency(N limitation or low N),which is important for increasing NUE in rice production.

The orsano-inorganic hybrid compound [ Ni（phen）3] [ （H2W12O40） { Ni（phen）2H2O} { Ni（trien） } ]·2H2O was synthesized from Na2 WO4·2H2O, NiSO4·6H2O, CH3COOK, triethylenetetramine and 1,10-phenanthroline in water by the hydrothermal reaction, and characterized by IR, X-ray single crystal diffraction, and TG-DTA analysis. This compound crystallized in the monoclinic system, space group P2 （1）/n, with lattice constants： a =1.80998 （6） nm, b =2.36504（8） nm, c =2.29199（7） nm,β= 110.2220（10）°, V=9.2065（5） nm, Z=4. Final R indices R1=0.0532. ωR2=0.1295. The compound is decomposed at 593℃.

With radical global climate change and global warming, high temperature stress has become one of major factors exerting a major Influence on crop production, In the cotton （Gossyplum hirsutum L.）-growlng areas of China, especially in the Yangtze River valley, unexpected periodic episodes of extreme heat stress usually occur In July and August, the peak time of cotton flowering and boll loading, resulting In lower boll set and lint yield. Breeding programs for screening high temperature-tolerant cotton germplasm and cultlvars are urgent In order to stabilize yield in the current and future warmer weather conditions. In the present study, 14 cotton cultivars were quantified for in vitro pollen germination and pollen tube growth in response to temperatures ranging from 10 to 50 ℃ at 5 ℃ intervals. Different cotton genotypes varied In their in vitro pollen germination and pollen tube length responses to the different temperatures. Maximum pollen germination and pollen tube length ranged from 25.2% to 56.2% and from 414 to 682 pro, respectively. The average cardinal temperatures （Tmin,, Topt, and Tmax） also varied among the 14 cultivars and were 11.8, 27.3, and 42.7 ℃ for pollen germination and 11.8, 27.8, and 44.1 ℃ for maximum pollen tube length. Abstract The electrochemical properties of two basic violets （methyl violet and ethyl violet） at the MWNTs/Nafion modified glassy carbon electrode were investigated. The redox of the basic violets is two-electron and two-proton process, and methyl violet presents stronger electron transfer capacity than ethyl violet. Meanwhile, the inclusion constants of the two basic violets with five CDs were determined by differential pulse voltammetry （DPV）. The two basic violets and CDs can form 1：1 complexes, The inclusion capacities of the two basic violets follow the same order： CM-β-CD 〉 HP-β-CD 〉 TM-β-CD 〉 DM-β- CD 〉 β-CD. ？2009 Yu Jing Guo. The ferromagnetic semiconductor La2NiMnO6 （LNMO） has recently received much attention due to its high Curie temperature （Tc 280 K）, which is close to room temperature. We prepared single-phase LNMO polycrystaUine samples and investigated the temperature- and field-dependent magnetic behaviors of bulk LNMO. Between Tc and T＊ = 300 K, we observed upward and downward deviations from the Curie-Weiss law for high and low magnetic fields, respectively. From the electron spin resonance results, we can exclude the existence of the Griffiths phase. On the contrary, our results indicate that the abnormal magnetic behaviors might be induced by antisite phase boundaries with antiferromagnetic interaction.

Comments were made on the ＂word-for-word＂ literal translation method used by Mr. Nigel Wiseman in A Practical Dictionary of chinese medicine. He believes that only literal translation can reflect chinese medical concepts accurately. The so-called ＂word-for-word＂ translation is actually ＂English-word-for- chinese-character＂ translation. First, the authors of the dictionary made a list of Single Characters with English Equivalents, and then they gave each character of the medical term an English equivalent according to the list. Finally, they made some minor modifications to make the rendering grammatically smoother. Many English terms thus produced are confusing. The defect of the word-for-word literal translation stems from the erroneous idea that a single character constitutes the basic element of meaning corresponding to the notion of ＂word＂ in English, and the meaning of a disyllabic or polysyllabic chinese word is the simple addition of the constituent characters. Another big mistake is the negligence of the polysemy of chinese characters. One or two English equivalents can by no means cover all the various meanings of a single character which is a polysemous monosyllabic word. Various examples were cited from this dictionary to illustrate the mistakes.
