Experimental study on instability mechanism and critical intensity of rainfall of high-steep rock slopes under unsaturated conditions

Two critical factors,namely intense precipitation and intricate excavation,can trigger rock mass disasters in mining *** this study,an indoor rainfall system was developed to precisely regulate the flow and intensity of precipitation.A large-scale model experiment was conducted on a self-designed physical simulation experiment platform to investigate the failure and instability of high-steep rock slopes under unsaturated *** real-time reproduction of the progressive failure process in high-steep rock slopes enabled the determination of the critical rainfall intensity and revealed the mechanism underlying slope *** results indicated that rainfall may be the primary factor contributing to rock mass instability,while continuous pillar mining exacerbates the extent of rock mass *** critical failure stage of high-steep rock slopes occurs at a rainfall intensity of 40 mm/h,whereas a rainfall exceeding 50 mm can induce critical instability and precipitation reaching up to 60 mm will result in slope *** improved region growing segmentation method(IRGSM)was subsequently employed for image recognition of rock mass deformation in underground *** an error comparison with the simple linear iterative cluster(SLIC)superpixel method and the original region growing segmentation method(ORGSM)showed that the average identification error in the X and Y directions by the method was reduced significantly(1.82%and 1.80%in IRGSM;4.70%and 6.26%in SLIC;9.45%and 12.40%in ORGSM).Ultimately,the relationship between rainfall intensity and failure probability was analyzed using the Monte Carlo ***,the stability assessment criteria of rock slope under unsaturated condition were quantitatively and accurately evaluated.

Grain size is one of the most important factors affecting rice grain quality and yield,and attracts great attention from molecular biologists and *** this study,we engineered a CRISPR/Cas9 system targeting the miR396 recognition site of the rice GS2 gene,which encodes growth-regulating factor 4(OsGRF4)and regulates multiple agronomic traits including grain size,grain quality,nitrogen use efficiency,abiotic stress response,and seed *** contrast to most previous genome editing efforts in which indel mutations were chosen to obtain null mutants,a mutant named GS2^(E) carrying an in-frame 6-bp deletion and 1-bp substitution within the miR396-targeted sequence was ***2^(E) plants showed increased expression of GS2 in consistent with impaired repression by *** expected,the gain-of-function GS2^(E) mutant exhibited multiple beneficial traits including increased grain size and yield and bigger grain length/width *** grain weight and grain yield per plant of GS2^(E) plants were increased by 23.5%and 10.4%,*** improved traits were passed to hybrids in a semidominant way,suggesting that the new GS2^(E) allele has great potential in rice *** together,we report new GS2 germplasm and describe a novel gene-editing strategy that can be widely employed to improve grain size and yield in *** trait-improvement strategy could be applied to other genes containing miRNA target sites,in particular the conserved miR396-GRF/GIF module that governs plant growth,development and environmental response.

Sinusoidal phase-modulating laser diode interferometer for real-time surface profile measurement

A sinusoidal phase-modulating （SPM） laser diode （LD） interferometer for real-time surface profile measurement is proposed and its principle is analyzed. The phase signal of the surface profile is detected from the sinusoidal phase-modulating interference signal using a real-time phase detection circuit. For 60 × 60 measurement points of the surface profile, the measuring time is 10 ms. A root mean square （RMS） measurement repeatability of 3.93 nm is realized, and the measurement resolution reaches 0.19 nm.

Development and Application of a High-Volume Recycled Powder Solidifying Material for Waterworks Sludge

Recycled powder(RP)is produced as a by-product during the process of recycling construction and demolition(C&D)wastes,presenting a low additional *** RP-based solidifying material can not only improve its utilization efficiency,but also reduce the cost of commercial solidifying *** date,this is the best solidifying material utilized to dispose the original waterworks sludge(OWS)with high moisture contents(60%),and the product could be used to fabricate non-fired *** has become a new environment-friendly technology of“using waste to treat waste”.In this paper,the influence of different particle sizes and dosages of RP on the prepared solidifying material was ***,unconfined compression strength(UCS),volume stability,chemical composition,and heat of hydration,pore structure of the solidifying material were ***,non-fired bricks were prepared by using the solidifying material,recycled aggregate,and original waterworks *** UCS and softing coefficient(SC)of the non-fired bricks were *** a result,the 28-day UCS of the solidifying material with optimal(M30)was 35.40 MPa,which could reach 84.37%of Portland cement(PC).The addition of RP increased the volume stability of the solidifying *** addition of a large amount of RP reduced the heat flux and cumulative heat release of the solidifying material,while its porosity *** UCS of non-fired brick(NF20)in 28 days was 15.19 MPa and the SC after 28 days was 78.35%.In conclusion,the preparation of solidifying material using RP could be a promising approach and has a great potential in disposal of original waterworks sludge.

A two-layer implicit difference scheme is employed in the present study to determine the temperature distribution in an asphalt *** calculation of each layer only needs four iterations to achieve ***,in order to improve the calculation accuracy a swarm intelligence optimization algorithm is also exploited to inversely analyze the laws by which the thermal physical parameters of the asphalt pavement materials change with *** the basic cuckoo and the gray wolf algorithms,an adaptive hybrid optimization algorithm is obtained and used to determine the relationship between the thermal diffusivity of two types of asphalt pavement materials and the *** shown by the results,the prediction accuracy achievable with this approach is higher than that of the linear model.

Real-time measurement of the fast axis angle of a quarter-wave plate based on simultaneous phase shifting technique

Real-time measurement of the fast axis angle of a quarter-wave plate based on simultaneous phase shifting technique is presented. The simultaneous phase shifting function is realized by an orthogonal grating, a diaphragm, an analyzer array, and a 4-quadrant detector. The intensities of the light beams from the four analyzers with different azimuths are measured simultaneously. The fast axis angle of the quarter-wave plate is obtained through the four light intensity values. In this method, rotating elements are not required, so real-time measurement is achieved.

Seismic risk evaluation for a planning mountain tunnel using improved analytical hierarchy process based on extension theory

Seismic risk evaluation(SRE) in early stages(e.g., project planning and preliminary design)for a mountain tunnel located in seismic areas has the same importance as that in final stages(e.g.,performance-based design, structural analysis, and optimization). SRE for planning mountain tunnels bridges the gap between the planning on the macro level and the design/analysis on the micro level regarding the risk management of infrastructural systems. A transition from subjective or qualitative description to objective or quantitative quantification of seismic risk is aimed to improve the seismic behavior of the mountain tunnel and thus reduce the associated seismic risk. A new method of systematic SRE for the planning mountain tunnel was presented herein. The method employs extension theory(ET)and an ET-based improved analytical hierarchy process. Additionally, a new risk-classification criterion is proposed to classify and quantify the seismic risk for a planning mountain tunnel. This SRE method is applied to a mountain tunnel in southwest China, using the extension model based on matter element theory and dependent function *** reasonability and flexibility of the SRE method for application to the mountain tunnel are *** to different seismic risk levels and classification criteria, methods and measures for improving the seismic design are proposed, which can reduce the seismic risk and provide a frame of reference for elaborate seismic design.

Preparation and characterization of layered low-voltage ZnO varistors

Double-layered, low-voltage ZnO varistors have been fabricated by feeding two kinds of ZnO powders into a die using dry extrusion molding. compared with ZnO varistors fabricated by the conventional route, the layered ZnO varistors have larger non-linear coefficients, lower breakdown electric fields, and lower leakage current densities. The improvement in electrical performance of the layered low-voltage ZnO varistors is attributed to the asymmetric band structure at grain boundary between the two layers.
