Background： Depression is often comorbid with chronic somatic diseases. Few previous studies have investigated the prevalence of somatic diseases in depression or the prescription pattern of antidepressants in comorbidly depressed patients in Asia. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of somatic comorbidity （SC） in depression and compared the prescriptions of antidepressants in depressed patients with and without SC. Methods： A total of 2320 patients treated with antidepressants in 8 Asian countries were examined, and a diagnosis was based on the International Classification of Disease, 10^th revision. We listed 17 common chronic somatic diseases. Patients＇ socio-demographic and clinical characteristics and psychotropic drug prescriptions were recorded using a standardized protocol and data collection procedure. Results： Of the patients examined, 1240 were diagnosed with depression and 30% of them （n = 375） had SC. The most common comorbid condition was diabetes （23.7%）. The patients with SC were more likely to seek help at a general hospital （74.7% vs. 47.2%）, and had a higher incidence of symptoms involving sadness, disturbed sleep, and poor appetite. Noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant was prescribed more for patients with SC than for those without SC （30.4% vs, 22.9%）. Conclusions： SC is common in depressed Asian patients. It is important to strengthen the recognition of depression, especially in general hospitals and when patients report some somatic discomfort. It is also a matter of urgency to establish evidence-based guidelines for the use of new antidepressants in depressed patients with SC.

Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is a global pandemic where several comorbidities have been shown to have a significant effect on *** with diabetes mellitus(DM)have a higher mortality rate than non-DM patients if they get *** studies have indicated that patients with a history of diabetes can increase the risk of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 ***,patients without any history of diabetes can acquire newonset DM when infected with ***,there is a need to explore the bidirectional link between these two conditions,confirming the vicious loop between“DM/COVID-19”.This narrative review presents(1)the bidirectional association between the DM and COVID-19,(2)the manifestations of the DM/COVID-19 loop leading to cardiovascular disease,(3)an understanding of primary and secondary factors that influence mortality due to the DM/COVID-19 loop,(4)the role of vitamin-D in DM patients during COVID-19,and finally,(5)the monitoring tools for tracking atherosclerosis burden in DM patients during COVID-19 and“COVID-triggered DM”*** conclude that the bidirectional nature of DM/COVID-19 causes acceleration towards cardiovascular *** to this alarming condition,early monitoring of atherosclerotic burden is required in“Diabetes patients during COVID-19”or“new-onset Diabetes triggered by COVID-19 in Non-Diabetes patients”.

studies in animal models of epilepsy and pre-surgical patients have unanimously found a strong correlation between high-frequency oscillations(HFOs,>80 Hz)and the epileptogenic zone,suggesting that HFOs can be a potential biomarker of epileptogenicity and *** consensus includes the definition and standard detection techniques of HFOs,the localizing value of pathological HFOs for epileptic foci,and different ways to distinguish physiological from epileptic *** latest clinical applications of HFOs in epilepsy and the related findings are also *** will advance our understanding of the pathophysiology of epilepsy.

Adolescence is a critical period development of higher-order cognition and the corresponding refinements of the structure and function of the brain regions supporting it. The development of higher-order cognition is determined by neurobiological and genetic mechanisms as well as household, community, and environmental factors. Lifestyle, as an important factor of the family environment, plays a critical role in affecting offspring s cognition and behaviors. However, previous studies on parental lifestyle and offspring cognitive performance have mainly focused on individual lifestyle factors or lifestyle profiles of one of the parents, and were limited to the observation in offspring’s early childhood. Little is known about the potential role of parental adherence to an overall healthy lifestyle in the cognitive performance of offspring during adolescence and early adulthood. Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the prospective association between overall parental lifestyle and cognitive performance in offspring during adolescence and young adulthood, using a nationally representative sample from China. Methods We included 2531 adolescents aged 10-15 years at the study baseline in 2010 from the China Family Panel studies(CFPS). Five healthy lifestyle factors were defined as(1) modified dietary diversity score greater than or equal to 5 points(about the top 35%),(2) never smoking,(3) non-habitual drinking(no more than three times per week in the last month),(4) exercise weekly,(5) taking a short afternoon nap(<30 min/day). Parents received 1 point if they met any criteria for healthy lifestyle behaviors. The combination of these five lifestyle factors constructed the healthy lifestyle score ranging from 0 to 5, with a higher score indicating a healthier lifestyle. We describe three patients from two families with progressive spinocerebellar ataxia, peripheral neuropathy, raised α fetoprotein (AFP) and hypercholesterolaemia. Two siblings had identical clinical features, with late childhood onset of symptoms and slow progression, requiring crutches to walk at ages 37 and 38 years. Another patient developed ataxia aged 13 years and became wheel chair bound by 20 years of age. Although they all had raised serum AFP levels, their clinical, immunological, biochemical, cytogenetic and molecular genetic studies failed to support a diagnosis ofAtaxia Telangiectasia. Extensive investigation including imaging, biochemical and genetic studies excluded other known ataxias. Their clinical features most closely resemble the phenotype of a single consanguineous Japanese family with four individuals affected by spinocerebellar ataxia, peripheral neuropathy, raised AFP and hypercholesterolaemia. Homozygosity mapping has identified a locus in this Japanese family at 9q34. Haplotype analysis of our cases demonstrated possible linkage to 9q34, suggesting these may be the first Caucasian families described with this disorder.

Referral-based studies indicate that a mutation (G2019S) in exon 41 of the LRRK2 gene might be a common cause of Parkinson disease (PD).The authors sequenced leucine-rich repeat kinase 2 (LRRK2) exons 31, 35, and 41 in 371 consecutively recruited patients with PD and found mutations in six (1.6%) subjects, including two heterozygous for new putative pathogenic variants (R1441H, IVS31 +3A→G). These data confirm the important contribution of LRRK2 to PD susceptibility in a clinic-based population.

Although CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing is widely applied to mimic human disorders,whether acute manipulation of disease-causing genes in the brain leads to behavioral abnormalities in non-human primates remains to be *** we induced genetic mutations in MECP2,a critical gene linked to Rett syndrome(RTT)and autism spectrum disorders(ASD),in the hippocampus(DG and CA1–4)of adolescent rhesus monkeys(Macaca mulatta)in vivo via adeno-associated virus(AAV)-delivered Staphylococcus aureus Cas9 with small guide RNAs(sg RNAs)targeting *** comparison to monkeys injected with AAV-Sa Cas9 alone(n=4),numerous autistic-like behavioral abnormalities were identified in the AAV-Sa Cas9-sg MECP2-injected monkeys(n=7),including social interaction deficits,abnormal sleep patterns,insensitivity to aversive stimuli,abnormal hand motions,and defective social reward ***,some aspects of ASD and RTT,such as stereotypic behaviors,did not appear in the MECP2 gene-edited monkeys,suggesting that different brain areas likely contribute to distinct ASD *** study showed that acute manipulation of disease-causing genes via in vivo gene editing directly led to behavioral changes in adolescent primates,paving the way for the rapid generation of genetically engineered non-human primate models for neurobiological studies and therapeutic development.

Objective:This cross-sectional study aimed to determine the epidemiology of olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions related to COVID-19 in ***:This study was conducted by 45 tertiary Grade-A hospitals in *** and offline questionnaire data were obtained from patients infected with COVID-19 between December 28,2022,and February 21,*** collected information included basic demographics,medical history,smoking and drinking history,vaccination history,changes in olfactory and gustatory functions before and after infection,and other postinfection symptoms,as well as the duration and improvement status of olfactory and gustatory ***:Complete questionnaires were obtained from 35,566 *** overall incidence of olfactory and taste dysfunction was 67.75%.Being female or being a cigarette smoker increased the likelihood of developing olfactory and taste *** received four doses of the vaccine or having good oral health or being a alcohol drinker decreased the risk of such *** infection,the average olfactory and taste VAS scores were 8.41 and 8.51,respectively;after infection,they decreased to 3.69 and 4.29 and recovered to 5.83 and 6.55 by the time of the *** median duration of dysosmia and dysgeusia was 15 and 12 days,respectively,with 0.5%of patients having symptoms lasting for more than 28 *** overall self-reported improvement rate was 59.16%.Recovery was higher in males,never smokers,those who received two or three vaccine doses,and those that had never experienced dental health issues,or chronic accompanying ***:The incidence of dysosmia and dysgeusia following infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus is high in *** and prognosis are influenced by several factors,including sex,SARS-CoV-2 vaccination,history of head-facial trauma,nasal and oral health status,smoking and drinking history,and the persistence of accompanying symptoms.

Importance:The clinical characteristics of infectious mononucleosis(IM)in Chinese children have not been evaluated in multicenter studies,and the effectiveness of antiviral treatment are ***:To investigate the clinical characteristics of Chinese children with IM and current status of antiviral therapy for affected ***:Hospitalized patients with IM were enrolled between 2018 and 2020 in five children’s hospitals in *** clinical characteristics were compared among four age groups:clinical characteristics of IM and effectiveness of antiviral therapy were compared among patients receiving acyclovir(ACV),ganciclovir(GCV),and no antiviral therapy(i.e.,non-antiviral group).Results:In total,499 patients were analyzed;most patients were 3-clinical manifestations than did patients without antiviral *** effectiveness of antiviral therapy for IM requires further analysis.
