OBJECTIVE:To summarize the potential characteristics of convalescent patients with coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in China based on emerging clinical tongue data and guide the treatment and recovery of COVID-19 patients from the perspective of Traditional Chinese Medicine tongue ***:In this study,we developed and validated radiomics-based and lab-based methods as a novel approach to provide individualized pretreatment evaluation by analyzing different features to mine the orderliness behind tongue data of convalescent *** addition,this study analyzed the tongue features of convalescent patients from clinical tongue qualitative values,including thick and thin,fur,peeling,fat and lean,tooth marks and cracked,and greasy and putrid ***:We included 2164 tongue images in total(34%from day 0,35.4%from day 14 and 30.6%from day 28)from convalescent *** significance results are shown as ***,as the recovery time prolongs,the L average values of tongue and coat decrease from 60.21 to 57.18 and from 60.06 to 57.03 ***,the decrease of abnormality rate of tongue coat,included greasy tongue fur,putrid fur,teeth-mark,thick-thin fur,are of significant statistical difference(Pclinical doctors master the recovery and health of patients as soon as possible and improve their understanding of the potential me

The repair of osteochondral defects is one of the major clinical challenges in ***-established osteochondral tissue engineering methods have shown promising results for the early treatment of small ***,less success has been achieved for the regeneration of large defects,which is mainly due to the mechanical environment of the joint and the heterogeneous nature of the *** this study,we developed a multi-layered osteochondral scaffold to match the heterogeneous nature of osteochondral tissue by harnessing additive manufacturing technologies and combining the established art laser sintering and material extrusion *** developed scaffold is based on a titanium and polylactic acid matrix-reinforced collagen“sandwich”composite *** microstructure and mechanical properties of the scaffold were examined,and its safety and efficacy in the repair of large osteochondral defects were tested in an ovine condyle *** 12-week in vivo evaluation period revealed extensive and significantly higher bone in-growth in the multi-layered scaffold compared with the collagen–HAp scaffold,and the achieved stable mechanical fixation provided strong support to the healing of the overlying cartilage,as demonstrated by hyaline-like cartilage *** histological examination showed that the regenerated cartilage in the multi-layer scaffold group was superior to that formed in the control *** genes such as aggrecan and collagen-II were upregulated in the scaffold and were higher than those in the control *** findings showed the safety and efficacy of the cell-free“translation-ready”osteochondral scaffold,which has the potential to be used in a one-step surgical procedure for the treatment of large osteochondral defects.

AIM To assess the efficacy and safety of in vivo electroporation(ep)-mediated dual-plasmid hepatitis B virus(HBV) DNA vaccine vs placebo for sequential combination therapy with lamivudine(LAM) in patients with chronic hepatitis B. METHODS Two hundred and twenty-five patients were randomized to receive either LAM + vaccine(vaccine group, n = 109) or LAM + placebo(control group, n = 116). LAM treatment lasted 72 wk. Patients received the DNA vaccine or placebo by intramuscular injection mediated by ep at weeks 12(start of treatment with vaccine or placebo, SOT), 16, 24, and 36(end of treatment with vaccine or placebo, EOT). RESULTS In the modified intent-to-treat population, morepatients had a decrease in HBV DNA > 2 log10 IU/m L in the vaccine group at week 12 after EOT compared with the control group. A trend toward a difference in the number of patients with undetectable HBV DNA at week 28 after EOT was obtained. Adverse events were similar. In the dynamic per-protocol set, which excluded adefovir(ADV) add-on cases at each time point instantly after ADV administration due to LAM antiviral failure, more patients had a decrease in HBV DNA > 2 log10 IU/mL in the vaccine group at week 12 and 28 after EOT compared with the control group. More patients with undetectable HBV DNA at week 28 after EOT in the vaccine group were also observed. Among patients with a viral load < 1000 copies/mL at week 12, more patients achieved HBeA g seroconversion in the vaccine group than among controls at week 36 after EOT, as well as less virological breakthrough and YMDD mutations. CONCLUSION The primary endpoint was not achieved using the HBV DNA vaccine. The HBV DNA vaccine could only be beneficial in subjects that have achieved initial virological response under LAM chemotherapy.

There is considerable variation in the expression of severe preeclampsia. Our purpose was to determine if this is associated with maternal race or ethnicity. Study design: Individual chart review was performed for women diagnosed with severe preeclampsia at a tertiary care center from 1993 to 2003. Demographic, clinical, and lab findings from diagnosis (Dx) to 6 weeks’ postpartum (PP) were documented. Data were compared between Caucasian, African American, and Hispanic women. Data were presented for the total cohort if no significant difference was found. Results: We evaluated 473 pregnancies: 201 (Caucasian), 216 (African American), and 56 (Hispanic). Groups had similar baseline characteristics: chronic hypertension (HTN), diabetes, and initial antenatal blood pressure (mean BP 118/68). Caucasian women were older (27 vs 24 yrs), more likely nulliparous (63 vs 49% ), and had more multiple gestations (9 vs 1.5% ), P epigastric pain (7.4 vs 10% ) and nausea (2.3 vs 5% ), P 60 mg/dL were more common in Caucasian women at Dx (9 vs 12% , 11 vs 21% ) and at delivery (14 vs 24% , 19 vs 34% ), P < .05 for each. No difference in severe proteinuria was seen. African Americans had more severe HTN at both Dx (44.9 vs 30% ) and peak BP (85 vs 67% ), and required more antihypertensive Rx intrapartum (12 vs 6% ), PP (38 vs 12% ), and at discharge (35 vs 21% ), P < .03 for each. Hispanics presented later (36 vs 34.6 weeks) and had less severe HTN (27 vs 40% ), P < .04 for each. BP on DC was not different between groups. Caucasian women had more hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelets syndrome (29 vs 19% , P = .01). Eclampsia, intrauterine fetal demise, intrauterine growth restriction, abruption, PP preeclampsia, and recurrent preeclampsia were similar between groups. Wearable sweat sensors are gaining significant attention due to their unparalleled potential for noninvasive health ***,as a kind of body fluid,contains informative physiological indicators that are related to personalized health *** in wearable sweat sampling and routing technologies,flexible,and stretchable materials,and wireless digital technologies have led to the development of integrated sweat sensors that are comfortable,flexible,light,and ***,we report a flexible and integrated wearable device via incorporating a microfluidic system and a sensing chip with skin-integrated electronic format toward in-situ monitoring of uric acid(UA)in sweat that associates with gout,cardiovascular,and renal *** microfluidic system validly realizes the real-time capture perspiration from human *** obtained detection range is 5-200μM and the detection limit is 1.79μM,which offers an importance diagnostic method for clinical relevant lab *** soft and flexible features of the constructed device allows it to be mounted onto nearly anywhere on the *** tested the sweat UA in diverse subjects and various body locations during exercise,and similar trends were also observed by using a commercial UA assay kit.

Case studies of Chinese acupuncture's comprehensive effectiveness on knee pain

Conventional Western medicine（CWM） and traditional Chinese medicine（TCM） have different approaches and lead to different practices in experimental design, research methodology, regulation, and standards. TCM emphasizes on the optimal or holistic health. In contrast, CWM is an allopathic medicine primarily based on anatomy, biology, biochemistry,molecular biology and modern technology, and rejects the concept of invisible substances and quantum ***, CWM emphasizes on abnormal lab tests or obvious diseases. In the early 1970 s, TCM and acupuncture quickly emerged as an alternative to CWM as Westerners explored new TCM concepts while questioning the side effects of CWM. Many countries accept traditional acupuncture as a legal alternative medical practice. Some CWM physicians nowadays are more enthusiastic and are receptive to learning and practicing acupuncture. The common goal of CWM and TCM is to enhance human health, but problems arise over differences in approach. As a response to some Western journal papers that failed to validate the real acupuncture effect because of their incorrect methodologies and their ignorance of the holistic acupuncture approaches, the authors hereby present a group of case studies to demonstrate the real and unique effects of genuine acupuncture. The objective was to explore the clinical effects of acupuncture for knee ***-six patients with knee pain were divided into five groups based on age. Holistic TCM diagnosis was performed at the beginning of each case and then made a personalized acupuncture treatment prescription according to the root of illness found by the diagnosis. The symptoms and signs were recorded before and after every treatment, and the treatment effects were assessed based upon the self-reported feeling and the observed changes of the patient following the numeric rating scale（NRS）.
