Femoral Access with Ultrasound-Guided Puncture and Z-Stitch Hemostasis for Adults with Congenital Heart Diseases Undergoing Electrophysiological Procedures

Aims:Although the application of ultrasound-guided vascular puncture and Z-stitch hemostasis to manage femoral access has been widely utilized,there is limited data on this combined application in adult congenital heart disease(ACHD)patients undergoing electrophysiological(ep)*** sought to evaluate the safety and efﬁcacy of ultrasound-guided puncture and postprocedural Z-stitch hemostasis for ACHD patients under-going ep *** and Results:The population of ACHD patients undergoing transfemoral ep pro-cedures at the University of Zurich Heart center between January 2019 and December 2022 was observed and *** the study period,femoral access(left/right,arterial/venous)was performed under real-time ultrasound *** the end of the procedure,a single Z-stitch was performed at the puncture *** eval-uated the incidence of in-hospital complications associated with femoral access puncture in this *** 101 patients who had a total of 147 previous ipsilateral vascular punctures(mean 1.5 per person),100 patients underwent successful femoral vascular access for ep *** median age of the patients was 47±15 years and 34(34%)were male.Z-stitches were performed after the procedure in 100 patients with 303 femoral vascular accesses(mean 3 punctures per person).No patient developed vascular puncture relevant inguinal hematoma,pseudo aneurysm,arteriovenousﬁstula,venous or arterial ***:In ACHD patients undergoing ep procedures,optimal femoral access management can be achieved with ultra-sound-guided puncture and postprocedural Z-stitch hemostasis.

Liquid metal biomaterials: translational medicines,challenges and perspectives

Until now, significant healthcare challenges and growing urgent clinical requirements remain incompletely addressed by presently available biomedical materials. This is due to their inadequate mechanical compatibility, suboptimal physical and chemical properties, susceptibility to immune rejection, and concerns about long-term biological safety. As an alternative, liquid metal(LM) opens up a promising class of biomaterials with unique advantages like biocompatibility, flexibility, excellent electrical conductivity,and ease of functionalization. However, despite the unique advantages and successful explorations of LM in biomedical fields, widespread clinical translations and applications of LM-based medical products remain limited. This article summarizes the current status and future prospects of LM biomaterials, interprets their applications in healthcare, medical imaging, bone repair, nerve interface, and tumor therapy, *** to translate LM materials into medicine and obstacles encountered in practices are *** that, we outline a blueprint for LM clinics, emphasizing their potential in making new-generation artificial organs. Last, the core challenges of LM biomaterials in clinical translation, including bio-safety,material stability, and ethical concerns are also discussed. Overall, the current progress, translational medicine bottlenecks, and perspectives of LM biomaterials signify their immense potential to drive future medical breakthroughs and thus open up novel avenues for upcoming clinical practices.

Inflammasomes are large protein complexes that play a major role in sensing inflammatory signals and triggering the innate immune *** inflammasome complex has three major components:an upstream sensor molecule that is connected to a downstream effector protein such as caspase-1 through the adapter protein *** formation typically occurs in response to infectious agents or cellular *** active inflammasome then triggers caspase-1 activation,followed by the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines and pyroptotic cell *** inflammasome activation and activity contribute to the development of diabetes,cancer,and several cardiovascular and neurodegenerative *** a result,recent research has increasingly focused on investigating the mechanisms that regulate inflammasome assembly and activation,as well as the potential of targeting inflammasomes to treat various *** clinical trials are currently underway to evaluate the therapeutic potential of several distinct inflammasome-targeting ***,understanding how different inflammasomes contribute to disease pathology may have significant implications for developing novel therapeutic *** this article,we provide a summary of the biological and pathological roles of inflammasomes in health and *** also highlight key evidence that suggests targeting inflammasomes could be a novel strategy for developing new disease-modifying therapies that may be effective in several conditions.

The human face is a valuable biomarker of aging,but the collection and use of its image raise significant privacy *** we present an approach for facial data masking that preserves age-related features using coordinate-wise monotonic *** first develop a deep learning model that estimates age directly from non-registered face point clouds with high accuracy and *** show that the model learns a highly indistinguishable mapping using faces treated with coordinate-wise monotonic transformations,indicating that the relative positioning of facial information is a low-level biomarker of facial *** visual perception tests and computational3D face verification experiments,we demonstrate that transformed faces are significantly more difficult to perceive for human but not for machines,except when only the face shape information is *** study leads to a facial data protection guideline that has the potential to broaden public access to face datasets with minimized privacy risks.

To the Editor:Esophageal cancer,one of the most common cancer types in China,with an estimated 346,633 new cases and 323,600 deaths in 2022,is becoming an increasingly serious clinical and public health problem.^([1])The successful promotion of the self-management strategy has indicated that lifestyle modifications can be valuable in the primary prevention of cancer *** a healthy lifestyle has become a novel strategy for primary prevention and risk reduction in high-risk *** epidemiological studies have identified several lifestyle-related risk factors for esophageal cancer,including smoking and diet.^([2])Each factor can typically explain a modest proportion of cancer ***,when combined,these known risk factors may substantially affect the risk of esophageal ***,some risk factors for esophageal cancer are non-modifiable,including age,low socioeconomic status,and family *** and how these non-modifiable risk factors affect primary cancer prevention by intervening with modifiable risk factors remain unclear.

Prostate cancer(PCa)is the second most common malignancy among men *** Fu-Zheng-Yi-Liu(FZYL)Formula has been widely utilized in the treatment of *** study investigates whether the FZYL Formula can inhibit PCa by tar-geting the TAMs/CCL5 *** conducted in vitro co-cultures and in vivo co-injections of PCa cells and TAMs to mimic their *** showed that the FZYL Formula significantly reduced the proliferation,colony formation,subpopulations of PCSCs,and sphere-formation efficacy of PCa cells,even in the presence of TAM ***,the Formula markedly decreased the migration,invasion,and epithelial-mesenchymal transition(EMT)of PCa cells induced by *** FZYL Formula also reversed M2 phenotype polarization in TAMs and dose-dependently reduced their CCL5 expression and secretion,with minimal cytotoxicity *** studies confirmed that the TAMs/CCL5 axis is a critical target of the FZYL Formula,as the addition of exogen-ous CCL5 partially reversed the formula’s inhibitory effects on PCSCs self-renewal in the co-culture ***,the Formula also significantly inhibited the growth of PCa xenografts,bone metastasis,and PCSCs activity in vivo by targeting the TAMs/CCL5 ***,this study not only elucidates the immunomodulatory mechanism of the FZYL Formula in PCa therapy but also highlights the TAMs/CCL5 axis as a promising therapeutic target.

AIM:To evaluate dry eye disease(DED)symptomatology and mental health status in different COVID-19 ***:A cross-sectional observational design was *** 123 eligible adults(46.34%of men,age range,18-59y)with COVID-19 included in the study from August to November,*** Surface Disease Index(OSDI),Five-item Dry Eye Questionnaire(DEQ-5),Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale(HADS),and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)were used in this ***:OSDI scores were 6.82(1.25,15.91)in asymptomatic carriers,7.35(2.50,18.38)in mild cases,and 16.67(4.43,28.04)in recurrent cases,with 30.00%,35.56%,and 57.89%,respectively evaluated as having DED symptoms(χ2=7.049,P=0.029).DEQ-5 score varied from 2.00(0,6.00)in asymptomatic carriers,3.00(0,8.00)in mild cases,and 8.00(5.00,10.00)in recurrent cases,with 27.50%,33.33%,and 55.26%,respectively assessed as having DED symptoms(χ2=8.532,P=0.014).The prevalence of clinical anxiety(50.00%)and depression(47.37%)symptoms were also significantly higher in patients with recurrent infection(χ2=24.541,Pepression.
