In response to the inc.easing penetration of volatile and uncertain renewable energy,the regional transmission organizations(RTOs)have been recently focusing on enhancing the models of pump storage hydropower(PSH)plants,which are one of the key flexibility assets in the day-ahead(DA)and real-time(RT)markets,to further boost their flexibility provision *** by the recent research works that explored the potential benefits of excluding PSHs’cost-related terms from the objective functions of the DA market clearing model,this paper completes a rolling RT market scheme that is compatible with the DA ***,with the vision that PSHs could be permitted to submit state-of-charge(SOC)headrooms in the DA market and to release them in the RT market,this paper uncovers that PSHs could inc.ease the total revenues from the two markets by optimizing their SOC headrooms,assisted by the proposed tri-level optimal SOC headroom ***,in the proposed tri-level model,the middle and lower levels respectively mimic the DA and RT scheduling processes of PSHs,and the upper level determines the optimal headrooms to be submitted to the RTO for maximizing the total revenue from the two *** case studies quantify the profitability of the optimal SOC headroom submissions as well as the associated financial risks.

Distinc.ion of weak and strong AC grids for emerging hierarchical-infeed LCC-UHVDC systems is important for planning and operation departments. However, accuracy of earlier distinc.ion methods is limited as they were developed by empirical reasoning without rigorous theoretical analysis. Hence in this letter, hierarchical-infeed interactive effective short-circuit ratio (HIESCR) index is first used for strength evaluation of HIDC systems with complex inter-inverter interactions considered. Boundary HIESCR (BHIESCR) is also introduced in the proposed distinc.ion method of weak and strong AC grids. That is, weak (or strong) AC grids are, respectively, identified when HIESCR is less (or greater) than BHIESCR. Second, it is shown BHIESCR remains almost unchanged as 3.0 versus various system parameters and rated operation variables based on rigorous theoretical analysis. This salient feature makes the proposed method more accurate than earlier methods. Finally, the proposed method is validated by simulations based on the PSCAD/EMTDC program.

Diesel particulate matter(DPM) is considered carcinogenic after prolonged exposure. This paper used computational fluid dynamics(CFD) method to study the effect of four auxiliary ventilation systems on DPM distribution in a dead-end entry with loading operation. The auxiliary ventilation systems considered inc.ude: blower fan and tubing; exhaust fan and tubing, jet fan, and push–pull system. A species transport model with buoyancy effect was used to examine the DPM dispersion pattern with unsteady state analysis. During the 200 s of the loading operation, high DPM levels were identified in the face and dead-end entry regions. This study can be used for mining engineer as guidance to design and setup of local ventilation. It can also be used for selection of DPM control strategies and DPM annual training for underground miners.

We report a photothermally-induced liquid-solid/gas-solid-decoupling photocatalytic water-splitting system,where a carbonized melamine foam(CMF)and a porous g-C_(3)N_(4)(PCN)serve as the photothermal substrate and model photocatalyst,***,liquid water is transformed into the gaseous phase over the CMF due to the photothermal effect,and the generated vapor can be split into hydrogen by PCN via the *** unique biphasic photocatalytic system exhibits a high hydrogen production rate of 368.1µmol h^(-1),which is 2.4 and 25.6 times larger than those of the traditional triphasic PCN system(151.7µmol h^(-1))and g-C_(3)N_(4)(CN)system(14.4µmol h^(-1)),*** improved photocatalytic performance is mainly attributed to the optimized energy and mass transfer at the gas-liquid-solid reaction interface,where gas products are rapidly desorbed in the photocatalytic *** work provides a novel strategy to enhance the photocatalytic performance from the perspectives of energy and mass flow.

Photonics integration of an optoelectronic oscillator(OEO)on a chip is attractive for fabricating low cost,compact,low power consumption,and highly reliable microwave sources,which has been demonstrated recently in silicon on insulator(SOI)and indium phosphide(InP)platforms at X-band around 8 *** we demonstrate the first integration of OEOs on the thin film lithium niobate(TFLN)platform,which has the advantages of lower Vπ,no chirp,wider frequency range,and less sensitivity to *** have successfully realized two different OEOs operating at Ka-band,with phase noises even lower than those of the X-band OEOs on SOI and InP *** is a fixed frequency OEO at 30 GHz realized by integrating a Mach–Zehnder modulator(MZM)with an add-drop microring resonator(MRR),and the other is a tunable frequency OEO at 20–35 GHz realized by integrating a phase modulator(PM)with a notch *** work marks the first step of using TFLN to fabricate integrated OEOs with high frequency,small size,low cost,wide range tunability,and potentially low phase noise.

Three-dimensional simulations of diesel particulate matter （DPM） distribution inside a single straight entry for the Load-Haul-Dump loader （LHD）-truck loading and truck hauling operations were conducted by using ANSYS FLUENT computational fluid dynamics software. The loading operation was performed for a fixed period of 3 min. The dynamic mesh technique in FLUENT was used to study the impact of truck motion on DPM distribution. The resultant DPM distributions are presented for the cases when the truck were driving upstream and downstream of the loading face. Interesting phenomena were revealed in the study inc.uding the piston effect, layering of DPM in the roof region, and backflow of diesel exhaust against ventilation. The results from the simulation can be used to determine if the areas inside the face area and straight entry exceed the current U.S. regulatory requirement for DPM concentration （〉160 pg/m3）. This research can guide the selection of DPM reduction strategies and improve the working practices for the underground miners.

Diesel particulate matter(DPM) is considered carcinogenic after prolonged exposure. With more dieselpowered equipment used in underground mines, miners' exposure to DPM has become an inc.easing concern. This paper used computational fluid dynamics(CFD) method to study DPM distribution based on an experiment conducted by the Diesel Emissions Evaluation Program(DEEP) in Canada. Twenty-four cases were simulated where the emissions from both truck and load-haul-dumps(LHDs) were *** vehicle was placed in two stream wise locations, and the vehicles were oriented either facing or with the rear end toward the main fresh airflow. A species transport model with buoyancy effect was then used to examine the DPM dispersion pattern. High DPM regions were identified downstream,around, and even upstream of diesel engines. This can provide guidelines for good working practices and selection of diesel emission reduction technologies underground.

Assessment and Visualization of Ki67 Heterogeneity in Breast Cancers through Digital Image Analysis

The Ki67 index (KI) is a standard clinical marker for tumor proliferation;however, its application is hindered by intratumoral heterogeneity. In this study, we used digital image analysis to comprehensively analyze Ki67 heterogeneity and distribution patterns in breast carcinoma. Using Smart Pathology software, we digitized and analyzed 42 excised breast carcinoma Ki67 slides. Boxplots, histograms, and heat maps were generated to illustrate the KI distribution. We found that 30% of cases (13/42) exhibited discrepancies between global and hotspot KI when using a 14% KI threshold for classification. Patients with higher global or hotspot KI values displayed greater heterogenicity. Ki67 distribution patterns were categorized as randomly distributed (52%, 22/42), peripheral (43%, 18/42), and centered (5%, 2/42). Our sampling simulator indicated analyzing more than 10 high-power fields was typically required to accurately estimate global KI, with sampling size being correlated with heterogeneity. In conclusion, using digital image analysis in whole-slide images allows for comprehensive Ki67 profile assessment, shedding light on heterogeneity and distribution patterns. This spatial information can facilitate KI surveys of breast cancer and other malignancies.
