Promoter methylation and mRNA expression of DKK-3 and WIF-1 in hepatocellular carcinoma

Anterior cervical corpectomy decompression and fusion for cervical kyphosis in a girl with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome:A case report

BACKGROUND Spinal deformities in Ehlers-Danlos syndrome(EDS; type VI) are generally progressive and severe. Surgical treatment has been described for kyphoscoliosis in the thoracolumbar spine. However, there are few studies describing the consequences of an anterior approach in cervical kyphosis. An anterior approach may not be able to fully decompress the spinal canal and restore the normal curvature of the cervical spine. Therefore, the anterior approach for cervical kyphosis in young children is hard. We describe the first case in an EDS girl with cervical kyphosis who received satisfactory anterior cervical corpectomy decompression and *** SUMMARY The chief complaints of a 16-year-old girl with EDS were double upper limb weakness for 7 years and double lower limb walking instability for 2 ***, the imaging results revealed that the degree of kyphosis from cervical vertebra 2 to 4 accompanying with spinal cord compression was 30°. An anterior cervical corpectomy involving cervical vertebra 3 and a titanium mesh implant were performed with internal fixation. The results at 3 mo after surgery demonstrated that the anterior fusion was solid, and the kyphosis of the cervical spine was corrected. Dysregulation of mRNA profile in cisplatin-resistant gastric cancer cell line SGC7901

AIM To explore novel therapeutic target of cisplatin resistance in human gastric *** The sensitivity of SGC7901 cells and cisplatin-resistant SGC7901 cells(SGC7901/DDP) for cisplatin were detected by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT) assay. High-quality total RNA which isolated from SGC7901/DDP cells and SGC7901 cells were used for mR NA microarray analysis. Results were analyzed bioinformatically to predict their roles in the development of cisplatin resistance and the expression of 13 dysregulated mR NAs we selected were validated by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction(qR T-PCR). RESULTS SGC7901/DDP cells highly resistant to cisplatin demonstrated by MTT assay. A total of 1308 m RNAs(578 upregulated and 730 downregulated) were differentially expressed(fold change ≥ 2 and P-value < 0.05) in the SGC7901/DDP cells compared with SGC7901 cells. The expression of mR NAs detected by q RT-PCR were consistent with the microarray results. Gene Ontology, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway and protein-protein interaction analysis demonstrated that the differentially expressed mR NAs were enriched in PI3K-Akt, Notch, MAPK, ErbB, Jak-STAT, NF-kappa B signaling pathways which may be involved in cisplatin resistance. Several genes such as PDE3 B, VEGFC, IGFBP3, TLR4, HIPK2 and EGF may associated with drug resistance of gastric cancer cells to *** Exploration of those altered mR NAs may provide more promising strategy in diagnosis and therapy for gastric cancer with cisplatin resistance.

Predictive visual field outcomes after optic chiasm decompressive surgery by retinal vessels parameters using optical coherence tomography angiography

AIM:To evaluate the predictive value of superficial retinal capillary plexus(SRCP)and radial peripapillary capillary(RPC)for visual field recovery after optic cross decompression and compare them with peripapillary nerve fiber layer(pRNFL)and ganglion cell complex(GCC).METHODS:This prospective longitudinal observational study included patients with chiasmal compression due to sellar region mass scheduled for decompressive *** estimating equations were used to compare retinal vessel density and retinal layer thickness preand post-operatively and with healthy *** regression models were used to assess the relationship between preoperative GCC,pRNFL,SRCP,and RPC parameters and visual field recovery after ***:The study included 43 eyes of 24 patients and 48 eyes of 24 healthy *** RPC and SRCP vessel density and pRNFL and GCC thickness were lower than healthy controls and higher than postoperative *** best predictive GCC and pRNFL models were based on the superior GCC[area under the curve(AUC)=0.866]and the tempo-inferior pRNFL(AUC=0.824),and the best predictive SRCP and RPC models were based on the nasal SRCP(AUC=0.718)and tempo-inferior RPC(AUC=0.825).There was no statistical difference in the predictive value of the superior GCC,tempo-inferior pRNFL,and tempo-inferior RPC(all P>0.05).CONCLUSION:Compression of the optic chiasm by tumors in the saddle area can reduce retinal thickness and blood *** reduction persists despite the recovery of the visual field after decompression ***,pRNFL,and RPC can be used as sensitive predictors of visual field recovery after decompression surgery.

Construction and validation of prognostic model based on autophagy-related lncRNAs in gastric cancer

Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)has a very high incidence and fatality rate,and in most cases,it is already at an advanced stage when ***,early prevention and detection of HCC are two of the most effective ***,the methods recommended in the practice guidelines for the detection of HCC cannot guarantee high sensitivity and specificity except for the liver biopsy,which is known as the“gold standard”.In this review,we divided the detection of HCC into pre-treatment diagnosis and post-treatment monitoring,and found that in addition to the traditional imaging detection and liver biopsy,alpha fetoprotein(AFP),lens culinaris-agglutinin-reactive fraction of AFP(AFP-L3),protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-II(PIVKA-II)and other biomarkers are excellent biomarkers for HCC,especially when they are combined *** notably,the emerging liquid biopsy shows great promise in detecting *** addition,lactic dehydrogenase(LDH),suppressor of cytokine signaling(SOCS)and other relevant biomarkers may become promising biomarkers for HCC post-treatment *** the detailed introduction of the diagnostic technology of HCC,we can have a detailed understanding of its development process and then obtain some enlightenment from the diagnosis,to improve the diagnostic rate of HCC and reduce its mortality.

BACKGROUND The incidence of pulmonary embolism(PE) in children is low, but its mortality is high. Hypereosinophilic syndrome(HES) is a group of diseases caused by an abnormal increase in eosinophilic granulocytes resulting in multiple-organ dysfunction. The urgent event of thromboembolism in the pulmonary region provoked by eosinophils in idiopathic HES(IHES) is relatively unusual. This article reports a case of IHES with multiple PEs and left leg venous thrombosis as the first manifestation. One month later, the patient developed Henoch-Schonlein purpura(HSP), which is very *** SUMMARY We report the case of a 12-year-old boy who was admitted to the hospital with dyspnea, left leg pain, and aggravation. He had bilateral PE and left leg venous embolism with mild eosinophilia. Low-molecular-weight heparin and urokinase were given. At the same time, the interventional department was contacted about filter implantation, followed by urokinase thrombolysis. The left leg thrombus was aspirated under ultrasound guidance. He was discharged from the hospital on rivaroxaban. One month later, he developed a rash on both legs and ankle pain consistent with HSP, with severe eosinophilia and motor and sensory disturbances. The patient was diagnosed with IHES with multiple embolisms complicated by HSP after excluding other causes of the eosinophil elevation. After glucocorticoid treatment, the symptoms were relieved, but the patient later developed purpura *** We report a rare and life-threatening case of IHES with multiple embolisms associated with HSP.A mild elevation of eosinophils early in the disease leads to difficulties in diagnosis and delayed treatment.
