Objective To determine the distribution of two important virulence factors[lipooligosaccharide(LOS)and capsular polysaccharide(CPS)]in Campylobacter jejuni(***)isolated from different sources in China and to develop a rapid screening method for Guillain–Barrésyndrome(GBS)-associated *** Whole-genome sequencing was carried out for 494 *** *** Ortho MCL software was used to define the LOS/CPS gene *** genotyping was performed with serotype-specific sequence alignment using the BLAST ***-time Polymerase chain reaction(PCR)was developed with the unique sequences of specific CPS *** Nine novel and 29 previously confirmed LOS classes were *** classes A,B,and C were the most common(48.2%,238/494)among the 494 ***-six capsular types were identified in 448 ***2,HS4c,HS5/31,HS19,and HS8/17 were the most frequent CPS genotypes(58.7%,263/448).Strains of 17 CPS genotypes(strain number>5)had one or two prevalent LOS classes(P<0.05).Multiplex real-time PCR for rapid identification of HS2,HS19,and HS41 was developed and validated with strains of known *** Our results describe the genetic characteristics of the important virulence factors in *** strains in *** multiplex real-time PCR developed in this study will facilitate enhanced surveillance of GBS-associated strains in China.

Prevalence and molecular characteristics of Listeria monocytogenes in cooked products and its comparison with isolates from listeriosis cases

This study aimed to investigate the prevalence and molecular characteristics ofListeria monocytogenes in cooked products in Zigong City, China. The overall occurrence of the L. monocytogenes in the ready-to-eat （RTE） shops and mutton restaurants surveyed was 16.2% （141/873）. An occurrence of 13.5% was observed in RTE pork, 6.5% in RTE vegetables, and more than 24.0% in either cooked mutton or cooked haggis. Serotype 1/2b （45.4%）, 1/2a （33.3%）, and 1/2c （14.2%） were the predominant types. By comparing the clonal complexes （CCs） based on multilocus sequence typing （MLST） of the L. monocytogenes from cooked foods in Zigong City and 33 listeriosis cases from different districts of China, CC87, CC9, CC8, and CC3 were showed to be prevalent in cooked products and CC87 and CC3 were the first two frequent types in the 33 clinic-source strains. All CC87 stains harbored the newly reported Listeria pathogenicity island 4 （LIPI-4） gene fragment ptsA, and all CC3 strains possessed the Listeria pathogenicity island 3 （LIPI-3） gene fragment llsX. These may increase the occurrence of the strains belonging to CC87 and CC3 in listeriosis cases in China and also underline the risk of infection owing to the consumption of the cooked products from Zigong. ST619 （serotype 1/2b） harbored both llsX and ptsA, indicating a potential hypervirulent sequence type in Zigong.

On the ground in Western Africa： from the outbreak to the elapse of Ebola

I was sitting in the chair of the airplane back to Beijing when I started writing the memoirs to recollect my three journeys to Western Africa. All of the trips were related to the Ebola epidemic and covered different stages, from the outbreak peak to the post-Ebola era. Each journey was taken for a different task, but all of them represented the urgent and specific support from the Chinese center for disease control and prevention （China CDC） during the Ebola epidemic in Western African.

Rate and Change in Household Solid Fuels Usage Among Residents Aged 40 and Older — China, from 2014–2015 to 2019–2020

Introduction:Solid fuel combustion is a significant source of household air pollution and an important risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).This study presents the rates and change in the use of solid fuels for cooking and heating in ***:Based on data from the Chinese Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary disease Surveillance,the research estimated the rates and change of solid fuels usage for cooking and heating from 2014–2015 to 2019–2020 and the rate of primary cooking solid fuels usage in 2019–2020,and analyzed the association between solid fuels usage and ***:The rates of solid fuels usage for cooking and heating significantly decreased,dropping from 45.3%to 28.0%and from 33.5%to 23.2%,*** rates were higher among rural residents,with 47.2%using it for cooking and 37.7%for heating in *** usage of solid fuels for cooking is associated with increased risk of *** rural residents,combined usage of biomass and coal for cooking(OR=1.29,95%CI:1.12,1.48)and using coal as primary fuel for cooking(OR=1.18,95%CI:1.00,1.38)are associated with higher risk of *** usage of biomass for cooking is associated with an increased risk of COPD in urban residents(OR=1.17,95%CI:1.03,1.32).Conclusions:The study demonstrates a significant decline in the use of household solid ***,high utilization rates persist among individuals in rural settings and those from lower socioeconomic *** is of great public health importance to propose targeted fuel substitution measures for various solid fuels in different regions to reduce the risk of COPD.

Comparing the Genotype and Drug Susceptibilities between Mycobacterium avium and Mycobacterium intracellulare in China

Objective Mycobacterium avium （M. avium） and Mycobacterium intracellulare （M. intracellulare） are the major causative agents of nontuberculous mycobacteria （NTM）-related pulmonary infections. However, little is known about the differences in drug susceptibility profiles between these two species. Methods A total of 393 NTM isolates were collected from Shanghai Pulmonary disease Hospital. Sequencing of partial genes was performed to identify the strains at species level. The minimum inhibitory concentration （MIC） was used to evaluate the drug susceptibility against 20 antimicrobial agents. Variable number of tandem repeat （VNTR） typing was conducted to genotype these two species. Results A total of 173 （44.0%） M. avium complex （MAC） isolates were identified, including 41 （10.4%） M. avium isolates and 132 （33.6%） M. intracellulare isolates. Clarithromycin and amikacin were the two most effective agents against MAC isolates. The Hunter-Gaston Discriminatory Index （HGDI） values for VNTR typing of M. avium and M. intracellulare isolates were 0.993 and 0.995, respectively. Levofloxacin resistance was more common among the unclustered strains than among the clustered strains of M. intracellulare. Conclusion M. intrecellulare was the most common NTM species in China. Clarithromycin and amikacin had high antimicrobial activities against MAC. VNTR typing of MAC isolates revealed a high discriminatory power. Levofloxacin resistance was associated with unclustered strains of M. intracellulare.

Temporal and Spatial Trends in HIV Positivity Rate for VCT Clinics—China,2015–2022

Introduction:Human immunodeficiency virus(HIV)voluntary counseling and testing(VCT)clinics play a critical role in identifying and diagnosing HIV *** study aimed to describe the trend of HIV positivity rate(HPR)among Chinese VCT clinics between 2015 and ***:This study utilized data from the China Information System for disease control and prevention to analyze the trend in the HPR for VCT clinics from 2015 to *** HPR was calculated by dividing the number of newly-reported HIV cases by the number of HIV tests,multiplied by 100%.To identify temporal and spatial trends in the HPR,we employed joinpoint regression analysis and the Getis-Ord hotspot ***:From 2015 to 2022,VCT clinics in China performed a total of 22,075,386 HIV tests,leading to the identification of 260,353 HIV cases,resulting in a HPR of 1.18%.The HPR consistently declined over the study period,with an average annual percent change(AAPC)of−7.5%(95%confidence interval:−12.6%,−2.2%,P<0.05).The number of HPR hotspots also decreased from 41 in 2015 to 23 in *** HPR hotspots were primarily located in Yunnan,Sichuan,Guangdong,and Guangxi provincial-level administrative divisions(PLADs).Among the 31 PLADs,16 showed a significant decrease in HPR during the study period(AAPC<0,PAAPC<0.05).Conclusions:VCT clinics in China have played a significant role in identifying HIV *** declining HPR observed in these clinics may indicates the progress has been made in some degree in mitigating HIV among high-risk ***,it is crucial to further improving the utilization of VCT clinics for HIV testing.
