This study investigated the ethical landscape of aging research amid the increasing global focus on extending the human lifespan and health *** global survey of 180 researchers across 38 jurisdictions revealed divergent perceptions of aging,a consensus regarding the feasibility of delaying aging,and multiple perspectives regarding lifespan *** present findings underscore a paradigm shift toward inclusive and ethically sound research,emphasizing the need for an approach that strikes a balance between basic and clinical *** addition,this study highlighted key ethical concerns in aging research,including the effects of misleading advertising,potential inequality in access to aging interventions,and risks pertaining to the extrapolation of research findings from lower-model organisms to *** insights presented in this paper call for an integrated approach for overcoming the complex ethical and societal challenges in aging research to ensure responsible and equitable advancements in this burgeoning field.

Perfluorinated iodine alkanes promote the differentiation of mouse embryonic stem cells by regulating estrogen receptor signaling

Investigating the development toxicity of perfuorinated iodine alkanes(PFIs)is critical,given their estrogenic effects through binding with estrogen receptors(ERs).In the present study,two PFIs,including dodecafuoro-1,6-diiodohexane(PFHx DI)and tridecafuorohexyl iodide(PFHx I),with binding preference to ERαand ERβ,respectively,were selected to evaluate their effects on proliferation and differentiation of the mouse embryonic stem cells(m ESCs).The results revealed that,similar to E_(2),50μmol/L PFHx DI accelerated the cell proliferation of the m *** PFI stimulation at the exposure concentrations of 2–50μmol/L promoted the differentiation of the m ESCs as characterized by the upregulation of differentiation-related biomarkers(i.e.,Otx2 and Dnmt3β)and downregulation of pluripotency genes(i.e.,Oct4,Nanog,Sox2,Prdm14 and Rex1).Comparatively,PFHx DI exhibited higher induction effect on the differentiation of the m ESCs than did PFHx *** tests on ER signaling indicated that both PFI compounds induced exposure concentration-dependent expressions of ER signaling-related biomarkers(i.e.,ERα,ERβand Caveolin-1)in the m ESCs,and the downstream ER responsive genes(i.e.,c-fos,c-myc and c-jun)well responded to PFHx I *** role of ER in PFI-induced effects on the m ESCs was further validated by the antagonistic experiments using an ER inhibitor(ICI).The findings demonstrated that PFIs triggered ER signaling,and perturbed the differentiation program of the m ESCs,causing the potential health risk during early stage of development.

The development of three-dimensional(3D)space light angle detection is vital in optical technology for applications such as 3D imaging,computer vision,and augmented *** methods involve advanced sensors and algorithms,including time-offlight cameras,which need multiple cameras and light sources to improve ***,it is a great challenge to integrate these complex components into compact *** semiconductor structures offer optical resonance characteristics,enabling precise light–matter interaction regulation.A 3D star-like photodetector,fabricated using a template assistant printing strategy,demonstrates optical resonances of the subwavelength facade and the shielding effect of spatial *** achieves light angle detection with the resolution of 10°in vertical space and the resolution of 36°in horizontal space,making it a promising prototype for various applications.

Sex differences in human pre-gastrulation embryos

Human fetuses exhibit notable sex differences in growth rate and response to the intrauterine environment, yet their origins and underlying mechanisms remain uncertain. Here, we conduct a detailed investigation of sex differences in human pre-gastrulation embryos. The lower methylation and incomplete inactivation of the X chromosome in females, as well as the sex-specific cell-cell communication patterns,contribute to sex-differential transcription. Male trophectoderm is more inclined toward syncytiotrophoblast differentiation and exhibits a stronger hormone secretion capacity, while female trophectoderm tends to retain cytotrophoblast program with stronger mitochondrial function as well as higher vasculogenesis and immunotolerance signals. Male primitive endoderm initiates the anterior visceral endoderm transcriptional program earlier than females. The cell cycle activities of the epiblast and primitive endoderm are higher in males compared to females, while the situation is opposite in the trophectoderm. In conclusion, our study provides in-depth insights into the sex differences in human pre-gastrulation embryos and contributes to unraveling the origins of the sex differences in human fetal development.

AIM:To determine the prevalence of some retinal pathologies in people over 60y and their association with demographic and ocular ***:A cross-sectional study was conducted in Tehran using multistage cluster *** selecting subjects aged 60 and over,optometric,and ophthalmic examinations were *** retinal examination,a 90 D lens was used and indirect ophthalmoscopy was performed after instilling tropicamide *** was done using the IOL Master for all ***:Of 3791 people that were invited through cluster sampling,3310 participated in the study(response rate=82%).The prevalence of retinal pigmented epithelium(RPE)change,drusen,geographic atrophy(GA),hypertensive retinopathy(HTR),nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy(NPDR),proliferative diabetic retinopathy(PDR),choroidal neovascularization(CNV),central retinal artery occlusion(CRAO),myopic retinopathy(MR),branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO),and central retinal vein occlusion(CRVO)was 27.42%,11.08%,4.52%,3.03%,4.05%,0.54%,0.82%,0.39%,0.20%,0.49%,and 0.19%,*** removing the effect of age,the odds of NPDR were 1.68 times higher in women compared to men(P=0.014).After removing the effect of sex,the odds of drusen,RPE change,GA,CNV,BRVO,and CRVO increased with ***:There is a higher prevalence of RPE change,drusen,GA,CNV and a lower prevalence of MR and CRAO in the elderly population of Tehran aged over 60y compared to global average *** the correlation of most of the diseases with age and their effects on vision,attention should be paid to these diseases and the related screening programs to prevent vision impairment.

The source of Double ITCZ induced by the SST bias over the tropical western Pacific as reflected in CAS-ESM2 Model

“Double ITCZ”is a common precipitation bias over the tropical Pacific in current climate models and Earth system models,but the reasons for its formation are still worth exploring and *** this study,we adopted the second version of Chinese Academy of sciences Earth System Model(CAS-ESM2),by comparing a set of sea surface temperature(SST)bias correction experiments over the tropical Pacific,to explore the possible mechanism of SST bias on inducing the“Double ITCZ”from the perspective of the climatic annual mean bias in the coupled *** revealed that the simulated climatic annual mean SST bias over the tropical Pacific can affect the bias of latent heat flux through the saturation specific humidity,and the bias of latent heat flux can further affect that of vertical velocity of humid air by the condensation release mechanism,and finally modulate the simulated bias in ***,through the inter-comparison between different experiments,it is found that the source of Double ITCZ might mainly come from the annual mean SST bias over the tropical western Pacific through the proposed air-sea coupled process of“SST-saturated specific humidity-latent heat flux-vertical velocity-precipitation”,indicating a possible way on reducing the couple biases in models over the tropical Pacific to improve the accuracy of CAS-ESM2 for climate simulation.
