Estimation of the sample position is essential for working process monitoring and management in the life science automation lab*** low-energy(BLE)beacons have the advantages of low price,small size and low energy consumption,which make them a promising solution for sample position estimation in the automated *** fingerprinting models have been proposed to achieve indoor localization with the received signal strength(RSS)***,most of the research depends on intensive beacon *** estimation,which depends entirely on one beacon,is more suitable for sample position estimation in large automated *** complexity of the life science automation laboratory environment brings challenges to the traditional path loss model(PLM),which is a widely used radio wave propagation model-based proximity estimation *** this paper,BLE sensing devices for sample position estimation are *** BLE beacon-based proximity estimation is discussed in the framework of machine learning,in which the support vector regression(SVR)is utilized to model the nonlinear relationship between the RSS data and distance,and the Kalman filter is utilized to decrease the RSS data *** experimental results over different environments indicate that the SVR outperforms the PLM significantly,and provides 1 m absolute errors for more than 95%of the testing *** Kalman filter brings benefits to stable distance *** from proximity-based sample position estimation,the proposed framework turned out to be effective in position estimation between parallel workbenches and position estimation on an automated workstation.

Discovering Latent Variables for the Tasks With Confounders in Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning

Efficient exploration in complex coordination tasks has been considered a challenging problem in multi-agent reinforcement learning(MARL). It is significantly more difficult for those tasks with latent variables that agents cannot directly observe. However, most of the existing latent variable discovery methods lack a clear representation of latent variables and an effective evaluation of the influence of latent variables on the agent. In this paper, we propose a new MARL algorithm based on the soft actor-critic method for complex continuous control tasks with confounders. It is called the multi-agent soft actor-critic with latent variable(MASAC-LV) algorithm, which uses variational inference theory to infer the compact latent variables representation space from a large amount of offline ***, we derive the counterfactual policy whose input has no latent variables and quantify the difference between the actual policy and the counterfactual policy via a distance function. This quantified difference is considered an intrinsic motivation that gives additional rewards based on how much the latent variable affects each agent. The proposed algorithm is evaluated on two collaboration tasks with confounders, and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of MASAC-LV compared to other baseline algorithms.

On-chip isotachophoresis separation of functional DNA origami capture nanoarrays from cell lysate

Scaffolded DNA origami, a versatile method to construct high yield self- assembled DNA nanostructures, has been investigated to develop water-soluble nanoarrays for label free RNA detection, drug delivery, molecular positioning and recognition, and spatially ordered catalysis of single molecule chemical reactions. Its attributes that facilitate these applications suggest DNA origami as a candidate platform for intracellular targeting. After the interaction with targeted proteins in cell lysate, it is critical to separate and concentrate DNA origami nanoarrays from the crude cell lysate for further analysis. The recent development of microchip isotachophoresis （ITP） provides an alternative robust sample preconcentration and electrophoretic separation method. In this study, we present online ITP for stacking, separation and identification of aptamer-functionalized DNA origami and its thrombin complex in a simple cross-channel fused silica microfluidic chip. In particular, the method achieved separation of a binding complex in less than 5 min and 150-fold signal enhancement. We successfully separated and analyzed the thrombin bound origami-aptamer spiked into cell lysate using on-chip ITP. Our results demonstrate that origami/thrombin nanostructures can be effectively separated from cell lysate using this method and that the structural integrity of the concentrated binding complex is maintained as confirmed by atomic force microscopy （AFM）. An ITP-based separation module can be easily coupled to other microchip pre- and post-processing steps to provide an integrated proteomics analysis platform for diagnostic applications.

Cation exchangers （CAXs） belong to the cation/Ca2＋exchanger superfamily which have been extensively investigated in plant tonoplasts over the last decade. Recently, the roles of CAXs involved in heavy metal accumulation and tolerance in plants have been studied for phytoremediation and food security. In this mini review, we summarize the roles of the Ca2＋/H＋ antiporter in Ca2＋ signal transduction, maintaining ion homeostasis and sequestering heavy metals into the vacuole. Moreover, we present a possible role of the plasma membrane Ca2＋/H＋ antiporter in heavy metal detoxification.

The rapid increase of user-generated content （UGC） is a rich source for reputation management of enti- ties, products, and services. Looking at online product re- views as a concrete example, in reviews, customers usually give opinions on multiple attributes of products, therefore the challenge is to automatically extract and cluster attributes that are mentioned. In this paper, we investigate efficient at- tribute extraction models using a semi-supervised approach. Specifically, we formulate the attribute extraction issue as a sequence labeling task and design a bootstrapped schema to train the extraction models by leveraging a small quantity of labeled reviews and a larger number of unlabeled reviews. In addition, we propose a clustering By committee （CBC） ap- proach to cluster attributes according to their semantic simi- larity. Experimental results on real world datasets show that the proposed approach is effective.

This paper presents the design,calibration,and survey strategy of the Fast Radio Burst(FRB)digital backend and its real-time data processing pipeline employed in the Tianlai Cylinder Pathfinder *** array,consisting of three parallel cylindrical reflectors and equipped with 96 dual-polarization feeds,is a radio interferometer array designed for conducting drift scans of the northern celestial *** FRB digital backend enables the formation of 96 digital beams,effectively covering an area of approximately 40 square degrees with the 3 dB *** pipeline demonstrates the capability to conduct an automatic search of FRBs,detecting at quasi-realtime and classifying FRB candidates *** current FRB searching pipeline has an overall recall rate of88%.During the commissioning phase,we successfully detected signals emitted by four well-known pulsars:PSR B0329+54,B2021+51,B0823+26,and B2020+*** report the first discovery of an FRB by our array,designated as FRB *** also investigate the optimal arrangement for the digitally formed beams to achieve maximum detection rate by numerical simulation.

Price-Based Residential Demand Response Management in Smart Grids:A Reinforcement Learning-Based Approach

This paper studies price-based residential demand response management(PB-RDRM)in smart grids,in which non-dispatchable and dispatchable loads(including general loads and plug-in electric vehicles(PEVs))are both *** PB-RDRM is composed of a bi-level optimization problem,in which the upper-level dynamic retail pricing problem aims to maximize the profit of a utility company(UC)by selecting optimal retail prices(RPs),while the lower-level demand response(DR)problem expects to minimize the comprehensive cost of loads by coordinating their energy consumption *** challenges here are mainly two-fold:1)the uncertainty of energy consumption and RPs;2)the flexible PEVs’temporally coupled constraints,which make it impossible to directly develop a model-based optimization algorithm to solve the *** address these challenges,we first model the dynamic retail pricing problem as a Markovian decision process(MDP),and then employ a model-free reinforcement learning(RL)algorithm to learn the optimal dynamic RPs of UC according to the loads’*** proposed RL-based DR algorithm is benchmarked against two model-based optimization approaches(i.e.,distributed dual decomposition-based(DDB)method and distributed primal-dual interior(PDI)-based method),which require exact load and electricity price *** comparison results show that,compared with the benchmark solutions,our proposed algorithm can not only adaptively decide the RPs through on-line learning processes,but also achieve larger social welfare within an unknown electricity market environment.

Background:Brain functional connectivity under the naturalistic paradigm has been shown to be better at predicting individual behaviors than other brain states,such as rest and doing ***,the state-of-the-art methods have found it difcult to achieve desirable results from movie watching paradigm functional magnetic resonance imaging(mfMRI)-induced brain functional connectivity,especially when there are fewer *** other physical measurements into the prediction method may enhance *** tracking,becoming popular due to its portability and lower expense,can provide abundant behavioral features related to the output of human's cognition,and thus might supplement the mfMRI in observing participants'subconscious ***,there are very few studies on how to effectively integrate the multimodal information to strengthen the performance by a unified ***:A fusion approach with mfMRI and eye tracking,based on convolution with edge-node switching in graph neural networks(CensNet),is proposed in this ***:In this graph model,participants are designated as nodes,mfMRI derived functional connectivity as node features,and different eye-tracking features are used to compute similarity between participants to construct heterogeneous graph *** taking multiple graphs as different channels,we introduce squeeze-and-excitation attention module to CensNet(A-CensNet)to integrate graph embeddings from multiple channels into ***:The proposed model outperforms those using a single modality and single channel,and state-of-the-art ***:The results indicate that brain functional activities and eye behaviors might complement each other in interpreting trait-like phenotypes.
