Incidence, distribution of histological subtypes and primary sites of soft tissue sarcoma in China

The range of observed Chemical compositions of natural terrestrial waters varies greatly especially when compared to the essentially constant global composition of the *** concentrations of the REEs in natural terrestrial waters also exhibit more variation than what Was reported in seawater. In terrestrial waters, pH values span the range from acid up to alkaline. In addition, terrestrial waters can range from very dilute waters through to highly concentrated brines. The REE concentrations and their behavior. in natural terrestrial waters reflect these compositional ranges. Chemical weathering of rocks represents the source of the REEs to natural terrestrial waters and, consequently, the REE signature of rocks can impart their REE signature to associated waters. In addition, because of the typical low solubilities of the REEs, both surface and solution complexation can be important in fractionating REEs in aqueous solution. Both of these processes are important in all natural terrestrial waters, howev-er, their for relative importance varies as a function of the overall solution composition. In alkaline waters, for example, solution complexation of the REEs with carbonate ions appears to control their aqueous distributions whereas in acid waters, the REE signature of the labile fraction of the REEs is readily leached from the rocks. In circumneutral pH waters, both processes appear to be important and their relative significance has not yet been determined.

Changes in family structure in China:the impact of residence patterns and demographic factors

Based on census data from China,this paper uses SOCSIM microscopic simulation method to decompose the key factors of family transition into demographic and residence pattern *** former are further broken down into demographic inertia,fertility,mortality and marriage *** results indicate that the current demographic changes are relatively small and,thus,the small fluctuations caused by demographic changes contribute much less than residence pattern to the family *** the demographic factors,demographic inertia and fertility have a greater effect on family transition and the impacts caused by fertility and marriage rate are consistent with the direction of the overall influence of demographic factors:increasing the proportion of single-person households,one-generation households,and two-generation households,and decreasing the proportion of three-generation or more *** contrast,the effect of mortality rate was opposite to that of fertility rate,which increased the proportion of populations living in single-person,one-generation,and two-generation households,but the decreased the proportion of the population living in three-generation or more households.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma(NHL)contributes to significant cancer burden and mortality *** recent years,much insight into the causes of NHL has been gained by evaluating global differences through international collaboration and data *** comprises different subtypes that are known to behave differently,exhibit different prognoses,and start in distinct cell types(B-cell,T-cell,and NK-cell,predominantly),and there is in-creasing evidence that NHL subtypes have different *** of NHL can be complex,with varying subtype frequencies,and is a consideration when evaluating geographic *** of this,international pooling of well-executed epidemiologic studies has conferred power to evaluate NHL by subtype and confidence with minimal *** the decreasing burden in some regions while cases rise in Asia,and espe-cially China,this report focuses on a review of the established etiology of NHL from the epidemiologic literature in recent decades,highlighting work from *** covered include demographic patterns and genetic de-terminants including family history of NHL,as well as infection and immunosuppression,lifestyle,environment,and certain occupational exposures contributing to increased disease risk.

Perceptive insight into incentive design and sustainability of participatory mangrove management: a case study from the Indian Sundarbans

Incentive design is among the decisive factors behind active community participation and long-term sustainability of participatory forest management. Especially in case of mangroves, where multiple interests apply, it requires a careful integration of several ecological, economic and institutional factors. The primary objective of this paper is to understand the basis of incentive design and make a comprehensive inquiry into the existing incentive mechanism of participatory mangrove management in Indian Sundarbans. The qualitative and in-depth assessment was derived against a conceptual framework that contains three main determinants: (1) resources availability, (2) control mechanism, and (3) perception of end-users. The study deploys the results of various participatory exercises such as structured interviews with forest officials, focus group discussions with 10 Joint Forest Management Committees and semi-structured interviews with 119 mangrove users. In general, we observed an over-cautious, hierarchical and safety-margin-based incentive design with distinct bifurcation of communities over the adequacy and effectiveness of derived benefits. Although, the incentives are diverse and align well with the overall conservation of mangroves, they are considered to be insufficient by nearly half of the mangrove users. The main issues that were observed to hinder effective community participation can be summarized as (1) serious restrictions on access to economically exploitable mangrove products, (2) passive involvement of vulnerable occupational groups, and (3) lack of trust and conflicting interests between the officials and the communities. Although the existing preventive management of mangroves can be justified considering the magnanimity of the Indian Sundarbans, it can severely impair community participation and emerge as a clear threat to future sustainability. Incidence and mortality of laryngeal cancer in China,2008–2012

Predictive Values of Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference for Risk Factors of Certain Related Diseases in Chinese Adults - Study on Optimal Cut-off Points of Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference in Chinese Adults

Objective For prevention of obesity in Chinese population, it is necessary to definethe optimal range of healthy weight and the appropriate cut-off points of BMI and waistcircumference for Chinese adults. The Working group on Obesity in China under the supportof International Life Sciences Institute Focal Point in China organized a meta-analysis on therelation between BMI, waist circumference and risk factors of related chronic diseases (e. g.,high diabetes, diabetes mellitus, and lipoprotein disorders). Methods 13 population studiesin all met the criteria for enrollment, with data of 239 972 adults (20-70 year) surveyed inthe 1990s. Data on waist circumference was available for 111411 persons and data on serumlipids and glucose were available for more than 80 000. The study populations located in21provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions in China's Mainland as well as inTaiwan. Each enrolled study provided data according to a common protocol and uniformformat. The Center for data management in Department of Epidemiology, Fu Wai Hospitalwas responsible for statistical analysis. Results and conclusion The prevalence ofhypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia and clustering of risk factors all increased withincreasing levels of BMI or waist circumference. BMI at 24 with best sensitivity andspecificity for identification of the risk factors, was recommended as the cut-off point foroverweight, BMI at 28 which may identify the risk factors with specificity around 90 % wasrecommended as the cut-off point for obesity. Waist circumference beyond 85 cm for menand beyond 80 cm for women were recommended as the cut-off points for central *** of population attributable risk percent illustrated that reducing BMI to normalrange (<24) could prevent 45%-50% clustering of risk factors. Effect of Body Mass Index on All-cause Mortality and Incidence of Cardiovascular Diseases─Report for Meta-Analysis of Prospective studies on Optimal Cut-off Points of Body Mass Index in Chinese Adults

Objective To verify the optimal cut-off points for overweight and obesity in Chinese adults based on the relationship of baseline body mass index (BMI) to all-cause mortality, and incidence of cardiovascular diseases from pooled data of Chinese cohorts. Methods The prospective study data of existing cohort studies in China were collected, and the age-adjusted all-cause mortality stratified by BMI were estimated. The similar analysis was repeated after excluding deaths within the first three years of follow-up and after excluding smokers. The incidence of age-adjusted coronary heart disease (CHD) and stroke stratified by BMI were also analyzed. Multiple Cox regression coefficients of BMI for the incidence of CHD and stroke after controlling other risk factors were pooled utilizing the methods of weighting by inverse of variance to reveal whether BMI had independent effect and its strength on the incidence of CHD and stroke. Results The data of 4 cohorts including 76 227 persons, with 745 346 person-years of follow-up were collected and analyzed. The age-adjusted all-cause mortality stratified by BMI showed a U-shaped curve, even after excluding deaths within the first three years of follow-up and excluding smokers. Age-adjusted all-cause mortality increased when BMI was lower than 18.5 and higher than 28. The incidence of CHD and stroke, especially ishemic stroke increased with increasing BMI, this was consistent with parallel increasing of risk factors. Cox regression analysis showed that BMI was an independent risk factor for both CHD and stroke. Each amount of 2 kg/m2 increase in baseline BMI might cause 15.4%, 6.1% and 18.8 % increase in relative risk of CHD, total stroke and ischemic stroke. Reduction of BMI to under 24 might prevent the incidence of CHD by 11% and that of stroke by 15 % for men, and 22 % of both diseases for women. Joint modeling of longitudinal proportional measurements and survival time with a cure fraction

In cancer clinical trials and other medical studies, both longitudinal measurements and data on a time to an event(survival time) are often collected from the same patients. Joint analyses of these data would improve the efficiency of the statistical inferences. We propose a new joint model for the longitudinal proportional measurements which are restricted in a finite interval and survival times with a potential cure fraction. A penalized joint likelihood is derived based on the Laplace approximation and a semiparametric procedure based on this likelihood is developed to estimate the parameters in the joint model. A simulation study is performed to evaluate the statistical properties of the proposed procedures. The proposed model is applied to data from a clinical trial on early breast cancer.
