The rapid expansion of renewable energies asks for great progress of energy-storage technologies for sustainable energy supplies,which raises the compelling demand of high-performance rechargeable batteries.To satisfy the huge demand from the coming energy-storage market,the resource and cost-effectiveness of rechargeable batteries become more and more important.Manganese(Mn)as a key transition element with advantages including high abundance,low cost,and low toxicity derives various kinds(spinels,layered oxides,polyanions,Prussian blue analogs,etc.)of high-performance Mn-based electrode materials,especially cathodes,for rechargeable batteries ranging from Li-ion batteries,Na-ion batteries,aqueous batteries,to multivalent metal-ion batteries.It is anticipated that Mn-based materials with Mn as the major transition-metal element will constitute a flourishing family of Mn-based rechargeable batteries(Mn RBs)for large-scale and differentiated energy-storage applications.On the other hand,several critical issues including Jahn-Teller effect,Mn dissolution,and O release greatly hinder the pace of Mn RBs,which require extensive material optimizations and battery/system improvements.This review aims to provide an investigation about Mn-based materials and batteries for the coming energy-storage demands,with compelling issues and challenges that must be overcome.

Background:Excessive heat exposure can lead to hyperthermia in humans,which impairs physical performance and disrupts cognitive function.While heat is a known physiological stressor,it is unclear how severe heat stress affects brain physiology and function.Methods:Eleven healthy participants were subjected to heat stress from prolonged exercise or warm water immersion until their rectal temperatures(T_(re))attained 39.5℃,inducing exertional or passive hyperthermia,respectively.In a separate trial,blended ice was ingested before and during exercise as a cooling strategy.Data were compared to a control condition with seated rest(normothermic).Brain temperature(T_(br)),cerebral perfusion,and task-based brain activity were assessed using magnetic resonance imaging techniques.Results:T_(br)in motor cortex was found to be tightly regulated at rest(37.3℃±0.4℃(mean±SD))despite fluctuations in T_(re).With the development of hyperthermia,T_(br)increases and dovetails with the rising T_(re).Bilateral motor cortical activity was suppressed during high-intensity plantarflexion tasks,implying a reduced central motor drive in hyperthermic participants(T_(re)=38.5℃±0.1℃).Global gray matter perfusion and regional perfusion in sensorimotor cortex were reduced with passive hyperthermia.Executive function was poorer under a passive hyperthermic state,and this could relate to compromised visual processing as indicated by the reduced activation of left lateral-occipital cortex.Conversely,ingestion of blended ice before and during exercise alleviated the rise in both T_(re)and T_(bc)and mitigated heat-related neural perturbations.Conclusion:Severe heat exposure elevates T_(br),disrupts motor cortical activity and executive function,and this can lead to impairment of physical and cognitive performance.

LaFe_(11.8)Si_(1.2)/Ce_(60)Co_(40) composites were prepared by spark plasma sintering and subsequent diffusion annealing.A novel core-shell structure is observed with the LaFe11.8Si1.2 particles as the core and the(La,Ce)_(2)(Fe,Co,Si)_(17)(2:17)phase as the shell.As diffusion annealing time(t_(a))increases,this core-shell structure is replaced by the formation of the(La,Ce)_(1)(Fe,Co,Si)_(13) phase.Annealing at 1323 K for 12 h results in samples with(-ΔSM)^(max) of 9.30 J/(kg·K)(Δμ0H=2 T),good mechanical properties((σbc)^(max)=402 MPa,ε=4.21%)and thermal conductivity of 8.7 W/(m·K).Thus,bulk composites with excellent comprehensive properties for magnetic refrigeration are obtained in this work.

This paper presents a system of autonomous intelligent software agents,based on a cognitive architecture,capable of automated instantiation,visualisation and analysis of multifaceted City Information Models in dynamic geospatial knowledge graphs.Design of JPS Agent Framework and Routed Knowledge Graph Access components was required in order to provide backbone infrastructure for an intelligent agent system as well as technology agnostic knowledge graph access enabling automation of multi-domain data interoperability.Development of CityImportAgent,CityExportAgent and DistanceAgent showcased intelligent automation capa-bilities of the Cities Knowledge Graph.The agents successfully created a semantic model of Berlin in LOD 2,compliant with CityGML 2.0 standard and consisting of 419909661 triples described using OntoCityGML.The system of agents also visualised and analysed the model by autonomously tracking interactions with a web interface as well as enriched the model by adding new information to the knowledge graph.This way it was possible to design a geospatial information system able to meet demands imposed by the Industry 4.0 and link it with the other multi-domain knowledge representations of The World Avatar.

Valorization of poly-β-hydroxybutyrate(PHB)-based bioplastic waste in anaerobic digesters of food waste for bioenergy generation:reactor performance,microbial community analysis,and bioplastic biodegradation

This study aims to investigate the significance and biodegradation pathways of PHB-based bioplastic in anaerobic digesters treating food waste,where the reactor performance of changed methane generation,bioplastic biodegradation efficiency,and bioinformatic analysis of functional microbes were emphasized.The results showed that PHB-based plastic film could be partially biodegraded in the food waste digester,and a bioaugmentation use of Alcaligenes Faecalis(AF)and Bacillus Megaterium(BM)was beneficial to largely accelerate the degradation process through a beneficial shift of both the functional bacterial and archaeal species.Microbial community analysis indicated that the major bacterial species belonged to genera Candidatus_Cloacimonas,Rikenellaceae,and Defluviitoga,while the dominant methanogenic archaeal species belonged to genera Methanomassiliicoccus,Methanosarcina,and Methanosaeta.Bioplastic biodegradation analysis suggested that the optimal fractions of AF and BM for PHB-based plastic degradation were 50% AF and 75% BM,respectively,which deserves further optimization and scale-up validation.The finding of this study would contribute to the combined management of PHB-based bioplastic with food waste for clean energy recovery and a greener environment.

Multisource localization based on angle distribution of time-frequency points using an FOA microphone

Multisource localization occupies an important position in the field of acoustic signal processing and is widely applied in scenarios,such as human‐machine interaction and spatial acoustic parameter acquisition.The direction‐of‐arrival(DOA)of a sound source is convenient to render spatial sound in the audio metaverse.A multisource localization method in a reverberation environment is proposed based on the angle distribution of time-frequency(TF)points using a first‐order ambisonics(FOA)microphone.The method is implemented in three steps.1)By exploring the angle distribution of TF points,a single‐source zone(SSZ)detection method is proposed by using a standard deviation‐based measure,which reveals the degree of convergence of TF point angles in a zone.2)To reduce the effect of outliers on localization,an outlier removal method is designed to remove the TF points whose angles are far from the real DOAs,where the median angle of each detected zone is adopted to construct the outlier set.3)DOA estimates of multiple sources are obtained by postprocessing of the angle histogram.Experimental results in both the simulated and real scenarios verify the effectiveness of the proposed method in a reverberation environment,which also show that the proposed method outperforms reference methods.

Heavy metals in a typical city-river-reservoir system of East China:Multi-phase distribution,microbial response and ecological risk

The rapid construction of artificial reservoirs in metropolises has promoted the emergence of city-river-reservoir systems worldwide.This study investigated the environmental behaviors and risks of heavy metals in the aquatic environment of a typical system composed of main watersheds in Suzhou and Jinze Reservoir in Shanghai.Results shown that Mn,Zn and Cu were the dominant metals detected in multiple phases.Cd,Mn and Zn were mainly presented in exchangeable fraction and exhibited high bioavailability.Great proportion and high mobility of metals were found in suspended particulate matter(SPM),suggesting that SPM can greatly affect metal multi-phase distribution process.Spatially,city system(Ci S)exhibited more serious metal pollution and higher ecological risk than river system(Ri S)and reservoir system(Re S)owing to the diverse emission sources.Ci S and Re S were regarded as critical pollution source and sink,respectively,while Ri S was a vital transportation aisle.Microbial community in sediments exhibited evident spatial variation and obviously modified by exchangeable metals and nutrients.In particular,Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes presented significant positive correlations with most exchangeable metals.Risk assessment implied that As,Sb and Ni in water may pose potential carcinogenic risk to human health.Nevertheless,Re S was in a fairly safe state.Hg was the main risk contributor in SPM,while Cu,Zn,Ni and Sb showed moderate risk in sediments.Overall,Hg,Sb and Ci S were screened out as priority metals and system,respectively.More attention should be paid to these priority issues to promote the sustainable development of the watershed.

UBP12/UBP13-mediated deubiquitination of salicylic acid receptor NPR3 suppresses plant immunity

Salicylic acid(SA),a defense hormone produced after pathogen challenge,is critical for plant immunity.Arabidopsis NONEXPRESSER OF PR GENES 1(NPR1)and its paralogs NPR3 and NPR4 can bind SA and mediate SA signal transduction.NPR1 functions as a transcriptional co-activator to promote defense gene expression,whereas NPR3 and NPR4 have been shown to function as negative regulators in the SA signaling pathway.Although the mechanism about NPR1 regulation has been well studied,how NPR3/NPR4 proteins are regulated in immune responses remains largely unknown.Here,we show that the stability of NPR3/NPR4 is enhanced by SA.In the absence of pathogen challenge,NPR3/NPR4 are unstable and degraded by the 26S proteasome,whereas the increase in cellular SA levels upon pathogen infection suppresses NPR3/NPR4 degradation.We found that UBP12 and UBP13,two homologous deubiquitinases from a ubiquitin-specific protease subfamily,negatively regulate plant immunity by promoting NPR3/NPR4 stability.Our genetic results further showed that UBP12/UBP13-mediated immunity suppression is partially dependent on NPR3/NPR4 functions.By interacting with NPR3 in the nucleus in an SA-dependent manner,UBP12 and UBP13 remove ubiquitin from polyubiquitinated NPR3 to protect it from being degraded.The stabilization of NPR3/NPR4 promoted by UBP12/UBP13 is essential for negative regulation of basal and SA-induced immunity.

Automated Machine Learning for Epileptic Seizure Detection Based on EEG Signals

Epilepsy is a common neurological disease and severely affects the daily life of patients.The automatic detection and diagnosis system of epilepsy based on electroencephalogram(EEG)is of great significance to help patients with epilepsy return to normal life.With the development of deep learning technology and the increase in the amount of EEG data,the performance of deep learning based automatic detection algorithm for epilepsy EEG has gradually surpassed the traditional hand-crafted approaches.However,the neural architecture design for epilepsy EEG analysis is time-consuming and laborious,and the designed structure is difficult to adapt to the changing EEG collection environment,which limits the application of the epilepsy EEG automatic detection system.In this paper,we explore the possibility of Automated Machine Learning(AutoML)playing a role in the task of epilepsy EEG detection.We apply the neural architecture search(NAS)algorithm in the AutoKeras platform to design the model for epilepsy EEG analysis and utilize feature interpretability methods to ensure the reliability of the searched model.The experimental results show that the model obtained through NAS outperforms the baseline model in performance.The searched model improves classification accuracy,F1-score and Cohen’s kappa coefficient by 7.68%,7.82%and 9.60%respectively than the baseline model.Furthermore,NASbased model is capable of extracting EEG features related to seizures for classification.

As urbanization process has been and will be happening in an unprecedented scale worldwide,strong requirements from academic research and practical fields for smart management and intelligent planning of cities are pressing to handle increasing demands of infrastructure and potential risks of inhabitants’agglomeration in disaster management.Geospatial data and geographic information systems(GISs)are essential components for building smart cities in a basic way that maps the physical world into virtual environment as a referencing framework.On higher level,GIS has been becoming very important in smart cities on different sectors.In the digital city era,digital maps and geospatial databases have long been integrated in workflows in land management,urban planning and transportation in government.People have anticipated GIS to be more powerful not only as an archival and data management tool but also as spatial models for supporting decision-making in intelligent cities.Successful applications have been developed in private and public organizations by using GIS as a platform for data integration,a system for geospatial analysis and collection of models for visualization and decision-making.Location-based services on smart mobile devices in ubiquitous telecommunication networks are now an indispensable function that expands knowledge of the nature and connections among people.On data side,crowd-sourcing,real-time urban sensing and true 3-dimensional(3D)models and visualization have provided more advantages of GIS to final users and at the same time challenged current available solutions and technologies of data handling,visualization and human–computer interaction.On the technological side,Web 2.0 participatory applications provide the framework and environment for GIS to closer link to photogrammetry and computer vision,which empowers smart devices more capabilities.How to manage big geo-tagged data volumes collected by numerous sensors and implement professional GIS functions in a cloud computing environment are urg
