Hierarchical porous materials are characterized by their elegant interconnectivity and regularity across multiple length scales,which enables rapid mass transfer,exchange,and high catalytic performance [1].Thhese advanced materials differ from single-length-scale porous materials like microporous zeolites [2],mesoporous MCM-41 [3],SBA-15 [4]and MOF [5],and they are considered to be the second generation of porous materials [1,6].These materials haveattracted significant academic and industrial attention [7].

Despite the exceptional progress in breast cancer pathogenesis,prognosis,diagnosis,and treatment strategies,it remains a prominent cause of female mortality worldwide.Additionally,although chemotherapies are effective,they are associated with critical limitations,most notably their lack of specificity resulting in systemic toxicity and the eventual development of multi-drug resistance(MDR)cancer cells.Liposomes have proven to be an invaluable drug delivery system but of the multitudes of liposomal systems developed every year only a few have been approved for clinical use,none of which employ active targeting.In this review,we summarize the most recent strategies in development for actively targeted liposomal drug delivery systems for surface,transmembrane and internal cell receptors,enzymes,direct cell targeting and dual-targeting of breast cancer and breast cancer-associated cells,e.g.,cancer stem cells,cells associated with the tumor microenvironment,etc.

Mechanisms of electrochemical magnesium(de)alloying of Mg-Sn and Mg-Pb polymorphs

Different polymorphs of Mg-Sn and Mg-Pb intermetallic compounds were prepared by high-energy mechanical alloying and then investigated as active material in magnesium batteries. Beside thermodynamically stable Mg_(2)Sn and Mg_(2)Pb crystallizing in the anti-fluorite structure, other polymorphs Mg_(~2)Sn and Mg_(~2)Pb were prepared by increasing the ball-milling time. The first dealloying process is almost complete only for the cubic polymorphs, then similar capacities are observed during the subsequent alloying and dealloying sequences.Thanks to operando X-ray diffraction, the electrochemical mechanism is revealed and shows that the cubic polymorphs Mg_(2)Sn and Mg_(2)Pb tend to preferentially form during the alloying whatever the pristine intermetallic. Weak traces of Mg_(~2)Sn and Mg_(~2)Pb are observed during the alloying, suggesting that these polymorphs act as a by-product and/or an intermediate phases of the electrochemical process. Finally, the compatibility of cubic Mg_(2)Sn and Mg_(2)Pb with Mg(TFSI)_(2)-based electrolyte is confirmed in full cell vs. a positive electrode based on the Chevrel phase Mo6S8, although limited performance is achieved. This fundamental work provides new insights in the behavior of alloy-type negative electrodes for magnesium-ion batteries.

Lidar, a technology at the heart of autonomous driving and robotic mobility, performs 3D imaging ofa complex scene by measuring the time of flight of returning light pulses. Many technological challenges,including enhancement of the observation field of view (FoV), acceleration of the imaging frame rate,improvement of the ambiguity range, reduction of fabrication cost, and component size, must besimultaneously addressed so that lidar technology reaches the performance needed to strongly impact theglobal market. We propose an innovative solution to address the problem of wide FoV and extendedunambiguous range using an acousto-optic modulator that rapidly scans a large-area metasurface deflector.We further exploit a multiplexing illumination technique traditionally deployed in the context of telecommu-nication theory to extend the ambiguity range and to drastically improve the signal-to-noise ratio of themeasured signal. Compacting our metasurface-scanning lidar system to chip-scale dimension would opennew and exciting perspectives, eventually relevant to the autonomous vehicles and robotic industries.

The vast diversity of morphologies,body size,and lifestyles of snakes represents an important source of information that can be used to derive bio-inspired robots through a biology-push and pull process.An understanding of the detailed kinematics of swimming snakes is a fundamental prerequisite to conceive and design bio-inspired aquatic snake robots.However,only limited information is available on the kinematics of swimming snake.Fast and accurate methods are needed to fill this knowledge gap.In the present paper,three existing methods were compared to test their capacity to characterize the kinematics of swimming snakes.(1)Marker tracking(Deftac),(2)Markerless pose estimation(DeepLabCut),and(3)Motion capture were considered.(4)We also designed and tested an automatic video processing method.All methods provided different albeit complementary data sets;they also involved different technical issues in terms of experimental conditions,snake manipulation,or processing resources.Marker tracking provided accurate data that can be used to calibrate other methods.Motion capture posed technical difficulties but can provide limited 3D data.Markerless pose estimation required deep learning(thus time)but was efficient to extract the data under various experimental conditions.Finally,automatic video processing was particularly efficient to extract a wide range of data useful for both biology and robotics but required a specific experimental setting.

In this work, we introduce a polymer version of a previously developed silicon MEMS drop deposition tool for surfacefunctionalization that consists of a microcantilever integrating an open fluidic channel and a reservoir. The device isfabricated by laser stereolithography, which offers the advantages of low-cost and fast prototyping. Additionally,thanks to the ability to process multiple materials, a magnetic base is incorporated into the cantilever for convenienthandling and attachment to the holder of a robotized stage used for spotting. Droplets with diameters ranging from∼50 μm to ∼300 μm are printed upon direct contact of the cantilever tip with the surface to pattern. Liquid loading isachieved by fully immersing the cantilever into a reservoir drop, where a single load results in the deposition of morethan 200 droplets. The influences of the size and shape of the cantilever tip and the reservoir on the printing outcomeare studied. As a proof-of-concept of the biofunctionalization capability of this 3D printed droplet dispenser,microarrays of oligonucleotides and antibodies displaying high specificity and no cross-contamination are fabricated,and droplets are deposited at the tip of an optical fiber bundle.

Ultrafine particles represent a growing concern in the public health community but their precise role in many illnesses is still unknown. This lack of knowledge is related to the experimental difficulty in linking their biological effects to their multiple properties, which are important determinants of toxicity. Our aim is to propose an interdisciplinary approach to study fine(FP) and ultrafine(UFP) particles, generated in a controlled manner using a mini CAST(Combustion Aerosol Standard) soot generator used with two different operating conditions(CAST1 and CAST3). The chemical characterization was performed by an untargeted analysis using ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry. In conjunction with this approach, subsequent analysis by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC–MS) was performed to identify polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAH). CAST1 enabled the generation of FP with a predominance of small PAH molecules, and CAST3 enabled the generation of UFP, which presented higher numbers of carbon atoms corresponding to larger PAH molecules. Healthy normal human bronchial epithelial(NHBE) cells differentiated at the air-liquid interface(ALI) were directly exposed to these freshly emitted FP and UFP. Expression of MUC5AC, FOXJ1, OCLN and ZOI as well as microscopic observation confirmed the ciliated pseudostratified epithelial phenotype. Study of the mass deposition efficiency revealed a difference between the two operating conditions, probably due to the morphological differences between the two categories of particles. We demonstrated that only NHBE cells exposed to CAST3 particles induced upregulation in the gene expression of IL-8 and NQO1. This approach offers new perspectives to study FP and UFP with stable and controlled properties.

A bandpass negative group delay(NGD)passive circuit based on defect ground structure(DGS)and substrate integrated waveguide(SIW)-matched is developed in the paper. The NGD DGS topology is originally built with notched cells associated with self-matched substrate waveguide elements. The DGS design method is introduced as a function of the geometrical notched and SIW via elements. Then, parametric analyses based on full wave 3-D electromagnetic S-parameter simulations were considered to investigate the influence of DGS physical size effects. The design method feasibility study is validated with fully distributed microstrip circuit prototype. Significant bandpass NGD function performances were validated with 3-D simulations and measurements with-1.69 ns negative group delay value around 2 GHz center frequency over 33.7 MHz NGD bandwidth. Insertion loss is 4.37 d B, and reflection loss reaches 41.5 d B.

Synthesis of two-dimensional lead sheets by spark discharge in liquid nitrogen

A simple method to synthesise hexagonal lead sheets,which belong to the class of two-dimensional materials,is proposed.These objects are collected on a substrate located under two lead electrodes, between which nanosecond-pulsed spark discharges are ignited in liquid nitrogen.The hexagonal sheets are single crystals produced by gas phase condensation.Once nitrogen completely evaporates,the sheets change to PbO2by oxidation in air.The oxidation process induces stress that pleats the uppermost sheets or open cracks at the centre.The thickness of the individual objects typically varies from 4to 20nm.When the number of discharges is more than about 2000,in addition to sheets,two types of PbO2 sticks start to form:bundles composed of nanosticks (length 5p.m and diameter 50nm)and isolated sticks (length 20μm and diameter 500nm).These new nanostructures mainly form because of the way the discharge erodes the lead electrodes.Initially,anisotropic erosion driven by the orientation of the crystallographic planes of the lead crystals produces octahedra and nanosticks,and the nanosticks grow on the electrode surfaces as discharge proceeds.After about 2000discharges,the nanosticks are sufficiently long that they can be easily broken,probably by mechanical stress,and they fall onto the underlying substrate.
