Decoding protein structural characteristics and formation is essential to the understanding of its function. Despite the diversity and enormity of protein universe, the dissection of known protein structures has identified regular secondary structure elements （SSEs）, namely, a-helix and β-strand, that constitute the basic structural elements of protein universe （Levitt and Chothia, 1976）. As a remarkable characteristics of the overall topology of a polypeptide, the specific spatial arrangement of these SSEs is a hallmark of the protein tertiary conformation （Murzin et al., 1995）.

INTRODUCTIONThe etiology and pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis (UC) have remained unclear. Treatment is nonspecific based on the anti-inflammatory agents corticosteroid and sulfasalazine. A significant proportion fail to respond to this therapy[1]. As the relapse, refractory or serious UC patients had a hypercoagulable state and an increased incidence of thromboembolic events[2-4], heparin has been used by some authors[5-7]. Yet, its half-life period is short, needing long-term injection, which restricts its further clinical application. Our previous studies have demonstrated oral LMWH not only overcomes the shortcomings of common heparin[8,9], but also has anti-inflammatory effects[10,11]. The aim of this paper is to study the therapeutic effects and mechanism of oral LMWH in patients with corticosteroid-resistant UC.

4-(1-Pyrrolyl)butanenitrile(4), the key intermediate for the synthesis of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-indolizinone, was prepared with Clauson-Kass reation. When pyrrole reacted with 4-bromobutanenitrile in PEG-400 dimethyl ether catalyzed by NaOH, 3-(1-pyrrolyl)butanenitrile was obtained. The nitriles were converted into the corresponding ketones by Hoesch reaction. Some of the ketone derivatives were prepared.
