＜正＞ In this paper, an efficient image segmentation approach by using a self-organizing tree map （SOTm） is proposed. The SOTm neural network is first employed for the coarse segmentation to obtain the global clustering information of the image. Then, a pixel-based classification scheme that utilizes the local features is used to refine the segmentation. The proposed approach considers both global distributions of the image and local pixel characteristics;experimental results clearly show that images can be segmented into meaningful objects or parts. One of the advantages of the proposed approach is that the features used for the coarse segmentation can still be used to help make the final decision of the segmentation.

Implicit large eddy simulation(iLES) is employed to reinvestigate the separated flow in a channel with streamwise periodic hill-shaped *** calculation is undertaken using the spectral/hp element method together with regularized spectral vanishing *** Reynolds number based on the hill height and the bulk velocity above the crest are 2800 and *** flow features are discussed in detail,including mean velocities,Reynolds stresses,anisotropy measures and spectra,which are in good agreement with the available numerical and experimental data in the *** is demonstrated that the implicit model performs at least as well as the established explicit model and the high-order spectral/hp element method via the model-free iLES is well calibrated for high-resolved wall-bounded turbulence simulations with large-scale separations.

We report a rare case of association of temporal arteritis with recurrent central corneal ulcer. A 91-year-old male with a remote history of clinically diagnosed giant cell arteritis (GCA) and penetrating keratoplasty (PK) for corneal edema in 1990’s in the left eye presented with irritation and severe dry eye. He progressively developed central corneal ulcer regardless of treatment with aggressive lubrication and patching. The clinical course, blood tests and temporal artery biopsy results yielded the diagnosis of recurrent GCA. The clinical course improved after starting oral steroids. The case report illustrates the importance of ruling out GCA in patients with recurrent corneal ulcers and history of GCA. It also highlights the significance of shared understanding between primary care physicians and specialists to handle common and chronic diseases to make efficient diagnoses and plan treatment regimens. This is the first plausible case of reported GCA association with central corneal ulcer in the United States.

The present investigation reports the soxhlet assisted solvent extraction technique to derive the oil from seeds of the rain *** optimization of the factors affecting the extraction process has been carried out by Response Surface methodology(RSm)technique,and a Box-Behnken Design(BBD)consisting of three process variables has been developed to optimize the yield of *** the RSm technique,the predicted optimum oil yield of 11.15%at an optimized condition of powder weight of 20 g,volume of solvent of 380 mL,and extraction time of 6 *** physiochemical properties of the oil showed liquid greenish-yellow with 0.88,1.473 of specific gravity and refractive index,***,the moisture content,free fatty acid,acid value,saponification value,iodine value,and peroxide value were found to be 0.16%,13.615,27.23,187.1 mg KOH per g oil,65.8 g I_(2) per 100 g,and 4.02 meq O_(2) per kg,*** the obtained results,it was found that the extracted oil could be used for various applications.

meiosis comprises two rounds of nuclear division following a single phase of DNA replication, leading to the production of haploid gametes and is essential for sexual reproduction in eukaryotes. Unlike mitosis, meiosis involves homologous chromosome pairing, synapsis, and recombination during prophase I. meiotic recombination not only ensures the accurate segregation of homologs, but also redistributes alleles among offspring. DNA synthesis is a critical process during meiotic recombination, but our understanding of the proteins that execute and regulate it is limited. This review summarizes the recent advances in defining the role of DNA synthesis in meiotic recombina- tion through analyses of DNA synthesis genes, with specific emphasis on DNA polymerases （e.g., Pole and PolS）, replication processivity factor RFC1 and translesion polymerases （e.g., Pol~）. We also present a new double strand break repair model for meiotic recombination, which includes lagging strand DNA synthesis and leading strand elongation. Finally, we propose that DNA synthesis is one of critical factors for discriminating meiotic recombination pathways and that this differentiation may be conserved among eukaryotes.

Neutrophils are granulocytic cytotoxic leukocytes of the innate immune system that activate during acute inflammation. Neutrophils can also persist beyond the acute phase of inflammation to impact the adaptive immune response during chronic inflammation. In the context of the autoimmune disease, neutrophils modulating T and B cell functions by producing cytokines and chemokines, forming neutrophil extracellular traps, and acting as or priming antigen presentation cells. Thus, neutrophils are actively involved in chronic inflammation and tissue damage in autoimmune disease. Using rheumatoid arthritis as an example, this review focuses on functions of neutrophils in adaptive immunity and the therapeutic potential of these cells in the treatment of autoimmune disease and chronic inflammation.
