Dietary Supplementation of β-Carotene Reveals miRNAs Involved in the Regulation of Carotenoid Metabolism in Crassostrea gigas

Carotenoids play crucial physiological roles in animals.A comprehensive investigation into the mechanism of carotenoid metabolism in oysters will establish a theoretical foundation for further development of its carotenoid-rich ***,the information on the function of miRNA in β-carotene metabolism in oysters is *** elucidate the mechanisms underlying miRNA regulation of carotenoid metabolism in oysters,we compared the expressions of miRNA in digestive gland tissues of Pacific oyster(Crassostrea gigas)fed with aβ-carotene supplemented diet and a normal diet,respectively.A total of 690 candidate miRNAs in the Pacific oyster digestive gland tissues were identified,including 590 known miRNAs and 111 unknown *** differentially expressed miRNAs were obtained in the carotenoid-fed and normal groups,associated to 137 differentially expressed target ***,the GO enrichment analysis revealed that the differentially expressed target genes were mainly involved in transmembrane transport *** enrichment showed that the differentially expressed target genes were involved in ABC *** of the mRNA-miRNA network revealed that novel0025 played a central role in carotenoid metabolism,and it was negatively correlated with the expression of 46 *** addition,down-regulated expression of novel0025 upregulated the expression of the lipoprotein gene LOC105342186,suggesting a potential regulatory role in carotenoid *** results provide useful information for elucidating the miRNA regulation mechanism during carotenoids metabolism in the Pacific oyster.

PDK1 promotes breast cancer progression by enhancing the stability and transcriptional activity of HIF-1α

Non-Targeted Metabolomics Reveals the Metabolic Alterations in Response to Artificial Selective Breeding in the Fast-Growing Strains of Pacific Oyster

Pacific oyster(Crassostrea gigas)is one of the most important mollusks cultured all around the *** breeding programs of Pacific oysters in China is initiated since 2006 and developed the genetically improved strain with fast-growing ***,little is known about the metabolic signatures of the fast-growing *** the present study,the non-targeted metabolomics was performed to analyze the metabolic signatures of adductor muscle tissue in one-year old Pacific oysters from fast-growing strain and the wild population.A total of 7767 and 10174 valid peaks were extracted and quantified in ESI^(+)and ESI^(−)modes,resulting in 399 and 381 annotated metabolites,*** and OPLS-DA revealed that considerable separation among samples from fastgrowing strain and wild population,suggesting the differences in metabolic ***,81 significantly different metabolites(SDMs)were identified in the comparisons between fast-growing strain and wild population,based on the strict *** was found that there were highly correlation and conserved coordination among these *** enrichment analysis indicated that the SDMs were tightly related to pantothenate and CoA biosynthesis,steroid hormone biosynthesis,riboflavin metabolism,and arginine and proline *** them,the CoA biosynthesis and metabolism,affected by pantetheine and pantothenic acid,might be important for the growth of Pacific oysters under artificial selective *** study provides the comprehensive views of metabolic signatures in response to artificially selective breeding,and is helpful to better understand the molecular mechanism of fastgrowing traits in Pacific oysters.

Study on the tribological properties of metal rolling bearing under lubrication with diketone lubricants

In this article, 1-(4-ethylphenyl)-nonane-1,3-dione(0206) was prepared by Claisen condensation. By mixing 0206, chelate, and base oil in a ratio of 3.2:4.8:2, a diketone lubricant(PAO=14(20%)) that can achieve superlubricity was prepared and applied to bearing lubrication experiments. The experimental results show that when the bearing was lubricated by base oil, the friction coefficient(COF) and temperature rise decreased with the decrease of the viscosity of PAO. When PAO=14(20%) was used as the lubricant, the COF of the bearing was the lowest(0.001), and the wear morphology was comparable to that of the bearing lubricated with commercial lubricant. Compared with the base oil with the same viscosity, it is found that the COF and temperature rise of the bearing lubricated by PAO=14(20%) were lower under any experimental conditions. And when the amount of lubricant added was 10 μL, the COF of the bearing lubricated by PAO=14(20%) reached a very low value(0.0004).Bearing ball surface analysis identified the formation of diketone adsorption films. Combined with the previous PAO=14(20%)superlubricity mechanism, it was considered that the occurrence of tribochemical reaction and the bearing effect of chelates were the main reasons for the existence of ultra-low friction coefficient and low wear. In addition, when there were polar molecules in the lubricant, they were adsorbed on the metal surface through tribochemical reactions, resulting in many irregular pits on the surface.

Improving error-correcting capability in DNA digital storage via soft-decision decoding

Error-correcting codes(ECCs) employed in the state-of-the-art DNA digital storage(DDS) systems suffer from a trade-off between error-correcting capability and the proportion of redundancy. To address this issue, in this study, we introduce soft-decision decoding approach into DDS by proposing a DNA-specific error prediction model and a series of novel strategies. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach through a proof-of-concept DDS system based on Reed-Solomon(RS) code, named as Derrick. Derrick shows significant improvement in error-correcting capability without involving additional redundancy in both in vitro and in silico experiments, using various sequencing technologies such as Illumina, Pac Bio and Oxford Nanopore Technology(ONT). Notably, in vitro experiments using ONT sequencing at a depth of 7× reveal that Derrick, compared with the traditional hard-decision decoding strategy, doubles the error-correcting capability of RS code, decreases the proportion of matrices with decoding-failure by 229-fold, and amplifies the potential maximum storage volume by impressive 32 388-fold. Also, Derrick surpasses ‘state-of-the-art' DDS systems by comprehensively considering the information density and the minimum sequencing depth required for complete information recovery. Crucially, the soft-decision decoding strategy and key steps of Derrick are generalizable to other ECCs' decoding algorithms.

Combination of diketone and PAO to achieve macroscale oil-based superlubricity at relative high contact pressures

1-(4-ethylphenyl)-nonane-1,3-dione(0206)is an oil-soluble liquid molecule with rod-like *** this study,the chelate(0206-Fe)with octahedral structure was prepared by the reaction of ferric chloride and 1,*** experimental results show that when using 0206 and a mixed solution containing 60%0206-Fe and 40%0206(0206-Fe(60%))as lubricants of the steel friction pairs,superlubricity can be achieved(0.007,0.006).But their wear scar diameters(WSD)were very large(532µm,370µm),which resulted in the pressure of only 44.3 and 61.8 MPa in the contact areas of the friction *** 0206-Fe(60%)was mixed with PAO6,it was found that the friction coefficient(COF)decreased with increase of 0206-Fe(60%)in the *** the ratio of 0206-Fe(60%)to PAO6 was 8:2(PAO6(20%)),it exhibited better comprehensive tribological properties(232.3 MPa).Subsequent studies have shown that reducing the viscosity of the base oil in the mixed solution helped to reduce COF and increased *** the COF,contact pressure,and running-in time,it was found that the mixed lubricant(Oil3(20%))prepared by the base oil with a viscosity of 19.7 mPa·s(Oil3)and 0206-Fe(60%)exhibited the best tribological properties(0.007,161.4 MPa,3,100 s).

Lens-free wavefront shaping method for a diffuse non-lineof-sight link in visible light communication

In this Letter,we propose and experimentally demonstrate a lens-free wavefront shaping method that utilizes synchronized signal block beam alignment and a genetic algorithm(SSBGA)for a diffuse non-line-of-sight(NLOS)visible light communication(VLC)*** proposed method effectively controls the position and mobility of visible light beams by partitioning spatial light modulator pixels and manipulating beams to converge at distinct spatial positions,thereby enhancing wavefront shaping efficiency,which achieves a significant 23.9 dB optical power enhancement at+2 mm offset,surpassing the lens-based continuous sequence(CS)scheme by 21.7 ***+40°angle,the improvement reaches up to 11.8 dB and 16.8 dB compared to the results with and without lens-based CS,respectively.A maximum rate of 5.16 Gbps is successfully achieved using bit-power loading discrete multi-tone(DMT)modulation and the proposed SSBGA in an NLOS VLC system,which outperforms the lens-based CS by 1.07 Gbps and obtains a power saving of 55.6%during the transmission at4 *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first time that high-speed communication has been realized in an NLOS VLC system without a lens.

Impact of Pd single-site coordination structure on catalytic performance for semihydrogenation of acetylene

Semihydrogenation of trace acetylene in an ethylene gas stream is a vital step for the industrial production of polyethylene,in which Pd single-site catalysts(SSCs)have great ***,two Pd SSCs with different coordination structures are prepared on hierarchical nitrogen-doped carbon nanocages(hNCNC)by regulating the nitrogen species with or without using *** using dicyandiamide,the obtained Pd1-Ndicy/hNCNC SSC features the coordinated Pd by two pyridinic N and two pyrrolic N(PdN^(py)_(2)N^(pr)_(2)).Without using dicyandiamide,the obtained Pd1/hNCNC SSC features the coordinated Pd by pyridinic N and C(PdN^(py_(x)C_(4-x)),x=1-4).The former exhibits an 18-fold increase in catalytic activity compared to the *** results reveal the abundant unoccupied orbital states above the Fermi level of moiety,which can facilitate the activation of substrate molecules and dynamics of acetylene hydrogenation as supported by the combined theoretical and experimental *** addition,PdN^(py)_(2)N^(pr)_(2)the moiety presents a favorable desorption of ***,the Pd1-Ndicy/hNCNC SSC exhibits high C2H2 conversion(99%)and C2H4 selectivity(87%)at 160℃.This study demonstrates the impact of Pd single-site coordination structure on catalytic performance,which is significant for the rational design of advanced Pd SSCs on carbon-based supports.

Experimental demonstration of a photonic spiking neuron based on a DFB laser subject to side-mode optical pulse injection

We proposed and experimentally demonstrated a simple and novel photonic spiking neuron based on a distributed feedback(DFB) laser subject to side-mode optical pulse injection(SMOPI). The DFB laser chip is designed and fabricated based on asymmetric equivalent π phase shift(π-EPS) with the reconstruction-equivalent-chirp(REC) technique. Under side-mode continuous-wave(CW) optical injection,excitability pulse was experimentally observed during the dominant mode switching process due to the injection-locked effect. Based on the transition between the excitability regime and the side-mode injection locking effect, the controllable and repeatable neuron-like spiking response can be realized when external stimulus pulses are electro-optically modulated on the CW optical carrier. The experimental results show that the spike threshold, temporal integration, and refractory period, which are important spike processing mechanisms in biological neurons, can all be achieved in the optically-injected DFB laser. The experimental findings are also verified numerically with a rate equation model that considers the SMOPI. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first experimental demonstration of a photonic spiking neuron based on a DFB laser subject to SMOPI, which holds promise for realizing large-scale photonic spiking neuron arrays for hardware photonic spiking neural network chips.

Multi-granularity sequence generation for hierarchical image classification

Hierarchical multi-granularity image classification is a challenging task that aims to tag each given image with multiple granularity labels *** methods tend to overlook that different image regions contribute differently to label prediction at different granularities,and also insufficiently consider relationships between the hierarchical multi-granularity *** introduce a sequence-to-sequence mechanism to overcome these two problems and propose a multi-granularity sequence generation(MGSG)approach for the hierarchical multi-granularity image classification ***,we introduce a transformer architecture to encode the image into visual representation ***,we traverse the taxonomic tree and organize the multi-granularity labels into sequences,and vectorize them and add positional *** proposed multi-granularity sequence generation method builds a decoder that takes visual representation sequences and semantic label embedding as inputs,and outputs the predicted multi-granularity label *** decoder models dependencies and correlations between multi-granularity labels through a masked multi-head self-attention mechanism,and relates visual information to the semantic label information through a crossmodality attention *** this way,the proposed method preserves the relationships between labels at different granularity levels and takes into account the influence of different image regions on labels with different *** on six public benchmarks qualitatively and quantitatively demonstrate the advantages of the proposed *** project is available at https://***/liuxindazz/mgs.
