The bivoltine silkworm Bombyx mori （Lepidoptera： Bombycidae） exhibits a maternally controlled embryonic diapause. Maternal silkworms decide whether to lay diapause or nondiapause eggs depending on environmental factors such as the temperature and photoperiod during the egg and larval stages, and then induce diapause eggs during the pupal stage. However, little is known about the molecular mechanism that conveys the outcome of whether to produce diapause or nondiapause eggs from the egg or larval stages to the pupal stage. This study used microarray analysis to investigate differentially expressed genes in the larval brains of diapause- and nondiapause-egg producers, to which bivoltine silkworms were destined by thermal or photic stimulation during the egg stage. The cytochrome P450 18al and Kriippel homolog i genes were upregulated in producers of diapause eggs compared with those of nondiapause eggs under both experimental conditions. Cytochrome P450 18al encodes a key enzyme for steroid hormone inactivation and Krfippel homolog 1 is an early juvenile hormone-inducible gene that mediates the repression of metamorphosis. The upregulation of these genes during the larval stage might be involved in the signaling pathway that transmits information about the diapause program from the egg stage to the pupal stage in the silkworm.

A new copper compound constructed from H2 Pmal （phenylmalonic acid）, Dadm （4,4-diaminodiphenylmethane） and Cu（Ⅱ） has been synthesized from H2O-EtOH-DMF solution, and is characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction and other measurements. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c with a=13.7866（6）, b=10.1557（4）, c=30.9036（17）, β=101.422（5）o, V=4241.2（3）3 , Z=4, Dc=1.547g/cm3 , Mr=987.94, F（000）=2056, μ（MoKα）=1.078 mm-1 , S=1.007, R=0.0453 and wR=0.987 for 2806 observed reflections （I〉2σ （I））. The title compound is characteristic of the cyclic dimeric molecules which further aggregate through hydrogen bonds and π-π interactions to form a 3-D supramolecular network. The microbial activities of the title compound and its reagents are investigated with filter paper discs diffusion method. The results show that the activity of the title compound is slightly better than its precursor reagents.

Background: Identifying associations between genetic markers and traits of economic importance will provide practical benefits for the dairy goat industry, enabling genomic prediction of the breeding value of individuals, and facilitating discovery of the underlying genes and mutations. Genome-wide association studies were implemented to detect genetic regions that are significantly associated with effects on lactation yields of milk(MY), fat(FY),protein(PY) and somatic cell score(SCS) in New Zealand dairy ***: A total of 4,840 goats were genotyped with the Caprine 50 K SNP chip(Illumina Inc., San Diego, CA).After quality filtering, 3,732 animals and 41,989 SNPs were analysed assuming an additive linear model. Four GWAS models were performed, a single-SNP additive linear model and three multi-SNP Bayes C models. For the single-SNP GWAS, SNPs were fitted individually as fixed covariates, while the Bayes C models fit all SNPs simultaneously as random effects. A cluster of significant SNPs were used to define a haplotype block whose alleles were fitted as covariates in a Bayesian model. The corresponding diplotypes of the haplotype block were then fit as class variables in another Bayesian ***: Across all four traits, a total of 43 genome-wide significant SNPs were detected from the SNP GWAS. At a genome-wide significance level, the single-SNP analysis identified a cluster of variants on chromosome 19 associated with MY, FY, PY, and another cluster on chromosome 29 associated with SCS. Significant SNPs mapped in introns of candidate genes(45%), in intergenic regions(36%), were 0–5 kb upstream or downstream of the closest gene(14%) or were synonymous substitutions(5%). A study on the distribution of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera and Odonata in relation of environmental interruptions was done at three different rivers tributaries of Bukit Merah Reservoir, Perak namely Sungai Jelai, Sungai Ara, and Sungai Kurau from October 2013 to January 2014. A total of 1 942 individuals were collected during the 4month of the study. The number of Ephemeroptera was highest, which was found at Sungai Jelai and Sungai Kurau and dominated by Baetis from family Baetidae while at Sungai Kurau dominated by Trichoptera, Hydropsyche from family Hydropsychidae. Ecological and biological indices have been used to evaluate the diversity of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera and Odonata at each river. The highest Simpson's diversity index(D=0.893) and Pielou's evenness index(E=0.803) were recorded at Sungai Jelai while Sungai Ara had the highest value of Margalef's richness index(MgR I=5.698). The variance for the assemblages of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera and Odonata influenced by9 chemical and physical variables was really a satisfactory with total variance explained of 57.2%. The results of canonical correspondence analysis(CCA) model showed that two groups of insects taxa characterized by water *** first group from the CCA analysis clustered the Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera and Odonata genera showed that deterioration in dissolved oxygen concentration, pH and nitrate while the second group showed dependence on total dissolved solids(TDS), conductivity, total suspended solid(TSS) and velocity. The study showed that the distribution of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, Trichoptera and Odonata taxa was affected by the environmental interruptions such as human residential area, agricultural plantation and river embankment.

Botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs), a group of bacterial proteins that comprise a light chain disulfide linked a heavy chain, are the most lethal biotoxins known to mankind. By inhibiting neurotransmitter release, BoNTs cause severe neuroparalytic disease, botulism. A series of important findings in the past 10 years which displayed the molecular targets of BoNTs and hence proposed a four-step action mechanism to explain BoNT intoxication greatly advanced the study of antibotulismic drug. In this article, we reviewed these progresses and anti-botulismic compounds found in recent years. These compounds function due to their facilitation on neurotransmitter release or to their interference on the binding, internalization, translocation, and endopeptidase activity of the toxins. Toosendanin is a triterpenoid derivative extracted from a digestive tract-parasiticide in Chinese traditional medicine. Chinese scientists have found that the compound is a selective prejunctional blocker. In spite of sharing some similar action with BoNT, toosendanin can protect botulism animals that have been administrated with lethal doses of BoNT/A or BoNT/B for several hours from death and make them restore normal activity. The neuromuscular junction preparations isolated from the rats that have been injected with toosendanin tolerate BoNT/A challenge. Toosendanin seems to have no effect on endopeptidase activity of BoNT, but blocks the toxin approach to its enzymatic substrate.

Growth is an economically important trait in *** improve growth trait of the Asian seabass(Lates calcarifer)we have been carrying out,since 2004,a selective breeding *** study focuses on growth traits in the F2 fish generation,comprised of offspring from 23 mass crosses from 383 F_(1) *** genotyping analysis for 10 microsatellites from both brood stock and progeny we have reconstructed the pedigree of each *** F_(2) generation at 90 days post hatch(dph),we have recorded body weight(BW)for 12,117 individuals and total length(TL),standard length(SL)and condition factor(K_(tl) and K_(sl))for 3530 individuals;and all five traits for 2136 individuals at 270 *** 90 dph the average BW was 46.88±20.95 *** pedigree information,recorded growth traits and Restricted Maximum Likelihood method,we have estimated that the narrow sense heritability(h^(2))in F_(1) fish for BW,TL,SL,K_(tl) and K_(sl) was at,90 dph,0.12±0.03,0.11±0.03,0.10±0.03,0.20±0.04 and 0.11±0.03,respectively and,at 270 dph,0.34±0.07,0.32±0.07,0.30±0.06,0.13±0.04 and 0.11±0.04,*** 90 dph the realised heritability for BW was *** with F_(1) generation,the growth performance of F_(2) fish was increased by 14.4%.Heritability of growth traits will be useful for future genetic improvement programmes of the Asian seabass.

The regioselective effects of tert-butyl or bromine as the position-protecting group of feruloytyamide on the oxidative coupling reactions for the synthesis of natural （±）-canabisin D were investigated in detail. The coupling yield of 8-8-coupled aryldihydronaphthalene product of 5-Br-feruloytyamide was higher than that of tert-butyl substituted precursor under FeCl3·6H2O-acetone-water oxidative condition.

Tilapias are important aquaculture ***-biased sexual size dimorphism is very common and males are preferred for aquaculture in ***,the mechanisms underlying sexual dimorphism remain to be *** hundred and thirty-six sex-biased genes,of which 23 were male-biased and 113 were femalebiased,were identified via reanalysis of a muscle transcriptome data using the latest reference genome *** genes were mapped to KEGG pathways that are related to somatic cell metabolism,growth and differentiations,such as MAPK,FoxO4 and metabolism pathways as well as developmental processes responsible for skeletal muscle *** related to cell growth and proliferations such as MAPK signaling pathways are upregulated in males while pathways regulating cell division such as FoxO4 are upregulated in ***-biased genes in tilapia skeletal muscle have higher evolution rates(dN/dS)compared to unbiased ***-biased and male-biased genes showed 17.4%and 13.5%higher dN/dS,respectively,compared to unbiased *** results suggest that some of the male and female sex-biased genes were under selection *** SNPs located in the promoter region of one sex-biased gene RASGRF1 on LG1 were associated with bodyweight differences in the hybrid *** sex-biased genes identified in this study may serve as candidate genes for future functional analysis on sexual size dimorphism and for developing DNA markers for selecting fast-growing saline tilapia in aquaculture.
