Plants synchronize their cellular and physiological functions according to the photoperiod （the length of the light period） in the cycle of 24 h. Photoperiod adjusts several traits in the plant life cycle, including flowering and senes- cence in annuals and seasonal growth cessation in perennials. Photoperiodic development is controlled by the coordinated action of photoreceptors and the circadian clock. During the past 10 years, remarkable progress has been made in under- standing the molecular mechanism of the circadian clock, especially with regard to the transition of Arabidopsis from the vegetative growth to the reproductive phase. Besides flowering photoperiod also modifies plant photosynthetic struc- tures and traits. Light signals controlling biogenesis of chloroplasts and development of leaf photosynthetic structures are perceived both by photoreceptors and in chloroplasts. In this review, we provide evidence suggesting that the photope- riodic development of Arabidopsis leaves mimics the acclimation of plant to various light intensities. Furthermore, the chloroplast-to-nucleus retrograde signals that adjust acclimation to light intensity are proposed to contribute also to the signaling pathways that control photoperiodic acclimation of leaves.

Extensive changes in cellular metabolisms have been observed in cancer. They are probably induced by the same intracellular stressor, persistent off-balance in intracellular p H across possibly all adult cancers. It is these altered metabolisms that gives rise to a variety of cancerous behaviors such as continuous cell division, metastasis and drug resistance.

Several studies have suggested that stress and ageing exert inhibitory effects on rat Leydig cells. In a pattern similar to the normal process of Leydig cell ageing, stress-mediated increases in glucocorticoid levels inhibit steroidogenic enzyme expression that then results in decreased testosterone secretion. We hypothesized that chronic stress accelerates the degenerative changes associated with ageing in Leydig cells. To test this hypothesis, we established a model of chronic stress to evaluate stress-induced morphological and functional alterations in Brown Norway rat Leydig cells; additionally, intracellular lipofuscin levels, reactive oxygen species （ROS） levels and DNA damage were assessed. The results showed that chronic stress accelerated ageing-related changes： ultrastructural alterations associated with ageing, cellular lipofuscin accumulation, increased ROS levels and more extensive DNA damage were observed. Additionally, testosterone levels were decreased. This study sheds new light on the idea that chronic stress contributes to the degenerative changes associated with ageing in rat Leydig cells in vivo.

A simple and reliable way of phenotyping plant responses to dehydration was ***-developed leaves were detached and placed in a closed plastic box containing a salt solution to control the atmospheric water potential in the *** hours of dehydration(weight loss of the leaf)was optimal for measuring changes in stomatal response to *** of the plant hormone abscisic acid(ABA)prior to leaf detachment decreased the amount of water loss,indicating that the assay was able to detect differences based on a stomatal response to *** different Vitis genotypes(***,***,*** ***,*** *** and *** *** Sauvignon)with known differences in drought tolerance were screened for their dehydration response and the results obtained corresponded to previous reports of stomatal responses in the *** differences in stomatal density along with differences in the amount and rate of water lost indicate differences in dehydration sensitivity among the genotypes *** in stomatal response to ABA were also *** had the lowest stomatal density and the highest ABA sensitivity among the genotypes screened,yet Shiraz lost the most amount of water,indicating that it was the least sensitive to *** having the highest stomatal density and intermediate stomatal sensitivity to ABA,*** lost the smallest amount of water,indicating that it was the most sensitive to *** assay presented here represents a simple and reliable phenotyping method for plant responses to leaf dehydration.

Restin,a member of melanoma-associated antigen superfamily gene,was first cloned from differentiated leukemia cell induced by all trans-retinoic acid,and was able to inhibit cell proliferation,but the molecular mechanism was not *** Restin was localized in cell nucleus,and its homolog member,Necdin(neuronal growth suppressor factor),could interact with transcription factors p53 and E2F1,we proposed that Restin might also function as Necdin through interacting with some transcription *** this study,transcription factors p53,AP1,ATFs and E2Fs were cloned and used in the mammalian two-hybrid system to identify their in-teraction with *** results showed that only ATF3 had a strong interaction with *** is interesting to know that ATF3 was an important transcription factor for G1 cell cycle initiation in physiological stress *** was possible that the inhibition of cell proliferation by Restin might be related with the inhibition of ATF3 activity.

Objective:To investigate the cytotoxicity of the crude ethanol extract of the rhizome of Zingiber zerumbel(***)(L)Smith,and Curcuma zedoaria(***)Rosc,against Artemia salina ***:Fresh rhizomes of ***(L)Smith,and *** Rose,were extracted separately in cold with ethanol(2.5 L)and after concentration a brownish syrupy suspension of ethanol extracts of ***(L)Smith,and *** Rose,was *** cytotoxic effect of the crude ethanol extracts of both plants was determined by brine shrimp lethality ***:Crude ethanol extracts of the rhizome of ***(L)Smith,showed the highest cytotoxicity(LC_(50)was 1.24μg/mL)against brine shrimp nauplii as compared with *** Rose.(LC_(50)was 33.593μg/mL)after 24 h of ***:It can be concluded that the rhizome of ***(|L)Smith,and *** Rose,can be used as a source of cytotoxic agent.

Objective:To investigate mosquitocidal effects of ethanolic extract of(lowers of Tagetes erecta(***) and its chloroform and petroleum ether soluble fractions against the larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus(***).Methods:The fresh flowers of *** were extracted in cold with ethanol(5.0 L) and after concentration,the ethanol extract was fractionated with chloroform and petroleum ether to afford a brownish syrupy suspension of ethanol extract(50.0 g),petroleum ether soluble fraction(18.6 g) and chloroform soluble fraction(23.8 g).The larvicidal effect of ethanol extract and their solvent fractions were determined by the standard procedure of WHO against different instars of ***:Among the tested samples the chloroform soluble fractions showed the highest toxicity and consequently,the lowest LC_(50) values(14.14 μ g/mL,17.06 μ g/mL.36.88 μ g/mL and 75.48 μ g/mL) for all the instars larvae of *** larvae showed comparative tolerance in the course of increasing age and ***:It can be concluded that the flowers of *** are very effective natural larvicide and could be useful against ***.
