Selection due to cuckoo parasitism is responsible for the evolution of anti-parasitism defenses in *** host species breeding sympatrically with a single parasitic cuckoo may evolve different strategies to reduce the risk of counter cuckoo parasitism,resulting in different interactions between cuckoos and hosts in areas of ***,we studied the coevolutionary interactions between Himalayan cuckoos Cuculus saturatus and 2 sympatric and closely related potential hosts belonging to the family Pycnonotidae,the brown-breasted bulbul Pycnonotus xanthorrhous and the collared finchbill Spizixos *** investigated parasitism rates and nest-site selection(nest height,nest cover,human disturbance,perch height,forest distance,and degree of concealment)related to parasitism risk,nest defense against a cuckoo dummy,and egg rejection against cuckoo model *** used specific nest sites that were further away from forests than those of finchbills,and they behaved more aggressively toward cuckoos than *** contrast,bulbuls possessed moderate egg rejection ability,whereas the finchbill rejected 100%of cuckoo model *** suggest that selection of a nest site away from forests by the bulbul explains the absence of parasitism by Himalayan *** suggest that these interspecific differences in nest-site selection and nest defense indicate alternative responses to selection due to cuckoos.

Influence of Chemical Pretreatment on the Dissolved Organics in Poplar Alkaline Peroxide Mechanical Pulping Effluent

The components of the effluent from the chemical pretreatment of poplar alkaline peroxide mechanical pulp(APMP) were analyzed in this study. The main dissolved organics were low-molecular weight(LMW) lignin, oligosaccharides, and monosaccharides. The lignin and sugar concentrations in the effluent obtained using different chemical pretreatment conditions and chemical dosages were analyzed using ultraviolet(UV) spectroscopy. This analysis provided a theoretical basis for the subsequent treatment and utilization of APMP effluent. The experimental results showed that the dosages of Na OH, H_2O_2, and Na_2 SiO_3 in the chemical pretreatment process affected the lignin and sugar concentrations in the effluent and that different chemicals had differing degrees of influence. The degree of influence exhibited the following order: Na OH>H_2O_2>Na_2SiO_3. More specifically, the dosages of Na OH and H_2O_2 had stronger influences on the lignin and sugar concentrations than that of Na_2 SiO_3. Indeed, the Na_2 SiO_3 dosage hardly affected the lignin and sugar concentrations in the effluent, but Na_2 SiO_3 could stabilize the chemical pretreatment system and improve the reactive efficiency of Na OH and H_2O_2. The pretreatment temperature and time also affected the organic components, and the influence of the temperature was stronger than that of time.

In this work,the performance of CO2 absorption into aqueous 2-amino-2-methyl-propanol(AMP)solution was investigated by measuring the amount of CO2 in the liquid phase during CO2 absorption process to identify initial CO2 absorption ***,the porous media material named as MCM41 was introduced into the amine solution to test its influence on CO2 *** was found that MCM41 increased initial CO2 absorption rate and enhanced CO2 absorption *** physico-chemical properties of MCM41 were characterized in terms of specific surface area,average pore diameter,total pore volume and chemical properties,the amount of acidic sites and the Brfnsted/Lewis(B/L)acid sites *** showed that MCM41 was a type of Lewis acid catalyst with large specific surface area and pore *** addition,the pKa of AMP solution with and without MCM41 was obtained using acid titration technology to help understand the effect brought by MCM41.A mechanism illustrating how MCM41 increases the CO2 absorption rate of the AMP solution was proposed and demonstrated that MCM41 is a potential material for enhancing CO2 absorption.

China＇s economy has undergone rapid transition and industrial restructuring. The term ＂urban industry＂ describes a particular type of industry within Chinese cities experiencing restructuring. Given the high percentage of industrial firms that have either closed or relo- cated from city centres to the urban fringe and beyond, emergent global cities such as Shanghai, are implementing strategies for local economic and urban development, which involve urban industrial upgrading numerous firms in the city centre and urban fringe. This study aims to analyze the location patterns of seven urban industrial sectors within the Shanghai urban region using 2008 micro-geography data. To avoid Modifiable Areal Unit Problem （MAUP） issue, four distance-based measures including nearest neighbourhood analysis, Kernel density estimation, K-function and co-location quotient have been exten- sively applied to analyze and compare the concentration and co-location between the seven sectors. The results reveal disparate patterns varying with distance and interesting co-location as well. The results are as follows： the city centre and the urban fringe have the highest intensity of urban industrial firms, but the zones with 20-30 km from the city centre is a watershed for most categories; the degree of concentration varies with distance, weaker at shorter distance, increasing up to the maximum distance of 30 km and then decreasing until 50 km; for all urban industries, there are three types of patterns, mixture of clustered, random and dispersed distribution at a varied range of distances. Consequently, this paper argues that the location pattern of urban industry reflects the stage-specific industrial restructuring and spatial transformation, conditioned by sustainability objectives.

Rural restructuring is a process of reshaping socio-economic morphology and spatial pattern in rural territory in response to the changes of elements both in kernel system and external system of rural development, by optimally allocating and efficiently managing the material and non-material elements in the two systems. It aims at ultimately optimizing the structure and promoting the function within rural territorial system as well as realizing the coordination of structure and complementation of function between urban and rural territorial system. This paper establishes a theoretical framework of rural restructuring through elabo- rating the concept and connotations as well as analyzing the mechanism pushing forward rural restructuring based on the evolution of ＂elements-structure-function＂, and probes the approaches from the three aspects of spatial restructuring, economic restructuring and social restructuring. Besides, the authors argue that the study of rural restructuring in China in the future needs to focus on the aspects of long-term and multi-scale process and pattern, mechanism, regional models, rural planning technology system and standard, policy and institutional innovations concerning rural restructuring as well as the impacts of globalization on rural restructuring, in order to serve the current national strategic demands and cope with the changes of rural development elements in the process of urban-rural development transformation.

The circadian clock plays a critical role in the regulation of host immune ***,the mechanistic basis for this regulation is largely ***,the core clock gene cryptochromel(cryl)knockout line in Bombyx mori,an invertebrate animal model,was constructed to obtain the silkworm with dysfunctional molecular clock,and the dynamic regulation of the circadian clock on the immune responsiveness within 24h of Staphylococcus aureus infection was *** found that deletion of cryl decreased viability of silkworms and significantly reduced resistance of larvae to *** series RNA-seq analysis identified thousands of rhythmically expressed genes,including immune response genes,in the larval immune tissue,fat *** cry1 knockout silkworms exhibited expression patterns of rhythmically expressed genes similar to wild-type(WT)silkworms infected with ***,cry knockout silkworms exhibited a seriously weakened response to *** *** immune response peaked at 6 and 24 h after infection,during which“transcription storms”occurred,and the expression levels of the immune response genes,PGRP and antimicrobial peptides(AMPs),were significantly upregulated in *** contrast,cry I knockout did not effectively activate Toll,Imd,or NF-κB signaling pathways during the immune adjustment period from 12 to 18 h after infection,resulting in failure to initiate the immune responsiveness peak at 24 h after *** may be related to inhibited silkworm fat body energy *** results demonstrated the dynamic regulation of circadian clock on silkworm immune response to bacterial infection and provided important insights into hostantimicrobial defensemechanisms.

Integration of InVEST-habitat quality model with landscape pattern indexes to assess mountain plant biodiversity change: A case study of Bailongjiang watershed in Gansu Province

Mountains in western China, hosted rich biodiversity and millions of people and inhabitant with vital ecosystem services, had experienced the most serious biodiversity loss with fragile ecological problems. Even though increasing attentions had been paid to this issue, we still lacked efficient methods to assess the change of plant biodiversity at medium/large scale due to the poor data and co-existing multiple habitat types. This study proposed an integrated method combining InVEST-habitat quality model, NPP and landscape pattern indexes to analyze the spatial heterogeneity of plant biodiversity and its spatiotemporal change on raster cell scale. The results indicated that plant biodiversity service was high in Bailongjiang watershed with obvious spatial pattern variations. The land area containing higher plant biodiversity were 3161 km2, which mainly distributed in the National Nature Reserve and forestry area. While the areas with lower plant biodiversity accounted for 37.67% and mainly distributed in the valleys between Zhouqu-Wudu-Wenxian County, the valley of Minjiang in Tanchang County and alpine mountain snow-covered regions. During 1990–2010, plant biodiversity level tended to increase and the higher plant biodiversity area increased from 14.13% to 17.15% due to ecological restoration and afforestation, while plant biodiversity decreased in the area with intensive human activities, such as cultivated land, urban and rural land. The results showed that combining InVEST-habitat quality model, NPP and landscape pattern indexes can effective reveal mountain plant biodiversity change. The study was useful for plant biodiversity conservation policy-making and human activity management for the disaster-impacted mountainous areas in China.

Cultivated hawthorn(Crataegus pinnatifida ***)is an important medicinal and edible plant with a long history of use for health protection in ***,we provide a de novo chromosomelevel genome sequence of the hawthorn cultivar“Qiu Jinxing.”We assembled an 823.41 Mb genome encoding 40571 genes and further anchored the779.24 Mb sequence into 17 pseudo-chromosomes,which account for 94.64%of the assembled *** analyses revealed that cultivated hawthorn diverged from other species within the Maleae(apple tribe)at approximately 35.4 ***,genes involved in the flavonoid and triterpenoid biosynthetic pathways have been significantly amplified in the hawthorn *** addition,our results indicated that the Maleae share a unique ancient tetraploidization event;however,no recent independent whole-genome duplication event was specifically detected in *** amplification of non-specific long terminal repeat retrotransposons contributed the most to the expansion of the hawthorn ***,we identified two paleo-sub-genomes in extant species of Maleae and found that these two sub-genomes showed different rearrangement *** also reconstructed the ancestral chromosomes of Rosaceae and discussed two possible paleopolyploid origin patterns(autopolyploidization or allopolyploidization)of ***,our study provides an improved context for understanding the evolution of Maleae species,and this new highquality reference genome provides a useful resource for the horticultural improvement of hawthorn.
