The cerium conversion coating(CeCC) containing copper and manganese cations was applied to the galvanized *** microstructure and the composition of specimen were analyzed by field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS).Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) and polarization tests were conducted in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution to investigate the coating corrosion *** results show that there are improvements in corrosion resistance and microstructure of CeCC containing copper and manganese cations but copper ions increase corrosion resistance of CeCC from 5800 to 27000 Ω·cm^(2).

Applying Finite Difference Method to Simulate the Performance of a Perforated Breakwater Under Regular Waves

Using a discretized finite difference method, a numerical model was developed to study the interaction of regular waves with a perforated breakwater. Considering a non-viscous, non-rotational fluid, the governing equations of Laplacian velocity potential were developed, and specific conditions for every single boundary were defined. The final developed model was evaluated based on an existing experimental result. The evaluated model was used to simulate the condition for various wave periods from 0.6 to 2 s. The reflection coefficient and transmission coefficient of waves were examined with different breakwater porosities, wave steepnesses, and angular frequencies. The results show that the developed model can suitably present the effect of the structural and hydraulic parameters on the reflection and transmission coefficients. It was also found that with the increase in wave steepness, the reflection coefficient increased logarithmically, while the transmission coefficient decreased logarithmically.

Spinal cord injuries have profound detrimental effects on individuals, regardless of whether they are caused by trauma or non-traumatic events. The compromised regeneration of the spinal cord is primarily attributed to damaged neurons, inhibitory molecules, dysfunctional immune response, and glial scarring. Unfortunately, currently, there are no effective treatments available that can fully repair the spinal cord and improve functional outcomes. Nevertheless, numerous pre-clinical approaches have been studied for spinal cord injury recovery, including using biomaterials, cells, drugs, or technological-based strategies. Combinatorial treatments, which target various aspects of spinal cord injury pathophysiology, have been extensively tested in the last decade. These approaches aim to synergistically enhance repair processes by addressing various obstacles faced during spinal cord regeneration. Thus, this review intends to provide scientists and clinicians with an overview of pre-clinical combinatorial approaches that have been developed toward the solution of spinal cord regeneration as well as update the current knowledge about spinal cord injury pathophysiology with an emphasis on the current clinical management.

An experimental comparison of water based alumina and silica nanofluids heat transfer in laminar flow regime

Experimental investigations were carried out to determine the Al2O3/water and SiO2/water nanofluids flowing through a circular tube. convective heat transfer performance and pressure drop of Measurements show that the addition of small amounts of nano-sized Al2O3 particles to the base fluid increases heat transfer coefficients considerably, while the result for the silica nanofluids contradicts with the alumina nanofluids and this leads to some interesting results. In the case of alumina nanofluids, an average increase of 16% in convective heat transfer coefficient is observed with an average penalty of 28% in pressure drop. Moreover, flow resistance increases significantly compared to the base fluid even at very low concentrations of nanofluids. Finally, measured heat transfer coefficients are compared with predicted ones from the correlation of Shah under the same conditions.

A pore network model(PNM)is developed for gas diffusion layer(GDL)in the cathode side of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs).The model is coupled to network models of reactant oxygen and electron transport inside GDL and also to simple models of catalyst layer and *** coupled model captures the simultaneous effect of reactant and charge access to reaction sites and the resulting water generation,allowing it a transient nature up to reaching the steady state,which is a notable modification to the available PNMs which assume uniform invasion of liquid water from catalyst *** results show strongly non-uniform water saturation distributions inside GDL with maxima under the current collector *** an extra feature,the model can predict time evolution of oxygen concentration and water generation rate at catalyst layer as a result of liquid water build-up in *** included is a dry case coupled model in order to be compared with the main *** local water blockages in GDL inflict an average of 38.8%loss on the produced limiting current of the fuel ***,the coupling allows prediction of concentration overvoltages which emerges to be most pronounced in the under-rib region.
