Influence of preterm birth on the association between gestational diabetes mellitus and childhood developmental vulnerability:a causal mediation analysis

Background Epidemiological studies examining the direct and indirect effects of gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)on offspring early childhood developmental vulnerability are ***,the aims of this study were to estimate the direct and indirect effects of GDM(through preterm birth)on early childhood developmental *** We conducted a retrospective population-based cohort study on the association between gestational diabetes mellitus and early childhood developmental vulnerability in children born in Western Australia(WA)using maternal,infant and birth records from the Midwives Notification,Hospitalizations,Developmental Anomalies,and the australian Early Development Census(AEDC)*** used two aggregated outcome measures:developmentally vulnerable on at least one AEDC domain(DV1)and developmentally vulnerable on at least two AEDC domains(DV2).Causal mediation analysis was applied to estimate the natural direct(NDE),indirect(NIE),and total(TE)effects as relative risks(RR).Results In the whole cohort(n=64,356),approximately 22%were classified as DV1 and 11%as DV2 on AEDC *** of the natural direct effect suggested that children exposed to GDM were more likely to be classified as DV1(RR=1.20,95%CI:1.10-1.31)and DV2(RR=1.34,95%CI:1.19-1.50)after adjusting for potential *** 6%and 4%of the effect of GDM on early childhood developmental vulnerability was mediated by preterm birth for DV1 and DV2,*** Children exposed to gestational diabetes mellitus were more likely to be developmentally vulnerable in one or more AEDC *** biological mechanism for these associations is not well explained by mediation through preterm birth.

Background:Physical activity(PA)is important for cancer *** of remotely delivered interventions are needed to assist in reaching under-served non-metropolitan cancer *** objective of this study was to ascertain whether wearable technology,coupled with health coaching was effective in increasing PA in breast and colorectal cancer survivors living in regional and remote areas in ***:Cancer survivors from 5 states were randomized to intervention and control *** participants were given a Fitbit Charge 2TMand received up to 6 telephone health coaching *** participants received PA print *** assessments at baseline and 12 weeks measured moderate-to-vigorous PA(MVPA),light PA,and sedentary ***:Eighty-seven participants were recruited(age=63±11 years;74(85%)female).There was a significant net improvement in MVPA of 49.8 min/week,favoring the intervention group(95%confidence interval(95%CI):13.6-86.1,p=0.007).There was also a net increase in MVPA bouts of 39.5 min/week(95%CI:11.9-67.1,p=0.005),favoring the intervention *** groups improved light PA and sedentary behavior,but there were no between-group ***:This’s the first study to demonstrate that,when compared to standard practice(i.e.,PA education),a wearable technology intervention coupled with distance-based health coaching,improves MVPA in non-metropolitan cancer *** results display promise for the use of scalable interventions using smart wearable technology in conjunction with phone-based health coaching to foster increased PA in geographically disadvantaged cancer survivors.

Moirésuperlattices,arising from the controlled twisting of van der Waals homostructures at specific angles,have emerged as a promising platform for quantum emission ***,the manipulation of strain provides a versatile strategy to finely adjust electronic band structures,enhance exciton luminescence efficiency,and establish a robust foundation for two-dimensional quantum light ***,the intricate interplay between strain and moirépotential remains partially ***,we introduce a meticulously designed fusion of strain engineering and the twisted 2L-WSe_(2)/2L-WSe_(2) homobilayers,resulting in the precise localization of moiré*** low-temperature photoluminescence spectroscopy,we unveil the emergence of highly localized moiré-enhanced emission,characterized by the presence of multiple distinct emission ***,our investigation demonstrates the effective regulation of moirépotential depths through strain engineering,with the potential depths of strained and unstrained regions differing by 91%.By combining both experimental and theoretical approaches,our study elucidates the complex relationship between strain and moirépotential,thereby opening avenues for generating strain-induced moiréexciton single-photon sources.

We propose a novel quantum nonlinear interferometer design that incorporates a passive parity-time(PT)-symmetric coupler sandwiched between two nonlinear sections where signal-idler photon pairs are *** PT symmetry enables efficient coupling of the longer-wavelength idler photons and facilitates the sensing of losses in the second waveguide exposed to analyte under investigation,whose absorption can be inferred by measuring only the signal intensity at a shorter wavelength where efficient detectors are readily ***,we identify a new phenomenon of sharp signal intensity fringe shift at critical idler loss values,which is distinct from the previously studied PT symmetry *** discuss how such unconventional properties arising from quantum interference can provide a route to enhancing the sensing of analytes and facilitate broadband spectroscopy applications in integrated photonic platforms.

Two-dimensional(2D)anisotropic materials have garnered significant attention in the realm of anisotropic optoelectronic devices due to their remarkable electrical,optical,thermal,and mechanical *** extensive research has delved into the optical and electrical characteristics of these materials,there remains a need for further exploration to identify novel materials and structures capable of fulfilling device requirements under various ***,we employ heterojunction interface engineering with black phosphorus(BP)to disrupt the C_(3) rotational symmetry of monolayer WS_(2).The resulting WS_(2)/BP heterostructure exhibits pronounced anisotropy in exciton emissions,with a measured anisotropic ratio of 1.84 for neutral *** a comprehensive analysis of magnetic-field-dependent and temperature-evolution photoluminescence spectra,we discern varying trends in the polarization ratio,notably observing a substantial anisotropy ratio of 1.94 at a temperature of 1.6 K and a magnetic field of 9 *** dynamic behavior is attributed to the susceptibility of the WS_(2)/BP heterostructure interface strain to fluctuations in magnetic fields and *** findings provide valuable insights into the design of anisotropic optoelectronic devices capable of adaptation to a range of magnetic fields and temperatures,thereby advancing the frontier of material-driven device engineering.

Two-dimensional(2D)transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDs)have garnered considerable attention for their promising applications in sensors and optoelectronic devices,owing to their exceptional optical,electronic,and optoelectronic ***,the inherent high symmetry of TMD lattices imposes limitations on their functional ***,we present a strategy to disrupt the C_(3)rotational symmetry of monolayer WSe_(2)by fabricating a heterostructure incorporating WSe_(2)and SiP *** comprehensive experimental investigations and first-principle calculations,we elucidate that in the WSe_(2)/SiP heterostructure,excitons-both neutral and charged-emanating from WSe_(2)exhibit pronounced anisotropy,which remains robust against temperature ***,we observe an anisotropic ratio reaching up to 1.5,indicating a substantial degree of ***,we demonstrate the tunability of exciton anisotropy through the application of a magnetic field,resulting in a significant reduction in the anisotropic ratio with increasing field strength,from 1.57 to ***,the change in heterojunction anisotropy ratio reaches 24.8%as the magnetic field *** findings elucidate that the perturbation of the C_(3)rotational symmetry of the WSe_(2)monolayer arises from a non-uniform charge density distribution within the layer,exhibiting mirror *** results underscore the potential of heterostructure engineering in tailoring the properties of isotropic materials and provide a promising avenue for advancing the application of anisotropic devices across various fields.

Metasurface-empowered bound state in the continuum(BIC)provides a unique route for fascinating functional devices with infinitely high quality *** method is particularly attractive to the terahertz community because it may essentially solve the deficiencies in terahertz filters,sensors,lasers,and nonlinear ***,most BIC metasurfaces are limited to specified incident angles that seriously dim their application ***,we propose that a dual-period dielectric metagrating can support multiple families of BICs that originate from guided mode resonances in the dielectric grating and exhibit infinite quality factors at arbitrarily tilted *** robustness was analyzed based on the Bloch theory and verified at tilted incident *** also demonstrate that inducing geometric asymmetry is an efficient way to manipulate the leakage and coupling of these BICs,which can mimic the electromagnetically induced transparency(EIT)effect in our dual-period *** this demonstration,a slow-light effect with a measured group delay of 117 ps was *** incidence-insensitive BICs proposed here may greatly extend the application scenarios of the BIC *** high Q factor and outstanding slow-light effect in the metagrating show exciting prospects in realizing high-performance filters,sensors,and modulators for prompting terahertz applications.

Association of C-reactive Protein with Cardiovascular Outcomes: A Mendelian Randomization Study in the Japanese Population

Objective Traditional epidemiological studies have shown that C-reactive protein(CRP)is associated with the risk of cardiovascular diseases(CVDs).However,whether this association is causal remains ***,Mendelian randomization(MR)was used to explore the causal relationship of CRP with cardiovascular outcomes including ischemic stroke,atrial fibrillation,arrhythmia and congestive heart *** We performed two-sample MR by using summary-level data obtained from Japanese Encyclopedia of Genetic association by Riken(JENGER),and we selected four single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with CRP level as instrumental *** estimates were calculated with the inverse-variance weighted(IVW),penalized weighted median and weighted ***-Egger regression was used to explore *** No significant causal association of genetically determined CRP level with ischemic stroke,atrial fibrillation or arrhythmia was found with all four MR methods(all Ps>0.05).The IVW method indicated suggestive evidence of a causal association between CRP and congestive heart failure(OR:1.337,95%CI:1.005–1.780,P=0.046),whereas the other three methods did *** clear pleiotropy or heterogeneity were *** Suggestive evidence was found only in analysis of congestive heart failure;therefore,further studies are ***,no causal association was found between CRP and the other three cardiovascular outcomes.
