Satellite-based monitoring of contrasting characteristics of suspended sediment discharged from the Red and the Ma river systems along the northern coast of Vietnam

The northern coast of Vietnam has accumulated a significant amount of sediment discharged from the multiple distributaries of rivers such as the Red River and Ma River. While recent decreases of the sediment supply appears to have a significant impact on coastal erosion, the complex network of these distributaries makes it difficult to determine the overall spatiotemporal characteristics of sediment discharges and related topographic changes. The goal of the current study is to develop a satellite-based monitoring system for observation of turbidity discharged from the multiple rivers and to investigate the applicability of the developed monitoring system through a case study on the northern coast of Vietnam. Based on the in-situ observed data, a formula was determined for estimation of the surface water turbidity as a function of the red band reflectance of Moderate Resolution imaging Spectro-radiometer(MODiS) images. The formula was then combined with a newly determined threshold for cloud-masking to obtain maps of the nearshore turbidity patterns. These maps capture the spatiotemporal water surface turbidity along the entire coast of the Red River Delta and the coast around the Ma River mouth over the past sixteen years with frequency of twice a day. Finally, long-term trends of the turbidity patterns from multiple rivers were compared with the in-situ observation data and it was found that the Red River and the Ma River showed clearly contrasting characteristics, which reasonably explain the recent coastal shoreline changes and characteristics of sediment sampled along the coast.

Transparent exopolymer particles(TEPs)are a class of transparent gel-like polysaccharides,which have been widely detected in almost every kind of feed water to membrane systems,including freshwater,seawater and *** TEP have been thought to be related to the membrane fouling,little information is currently available for their influential mechanisms and the pertinence to biofouling *** present study,thus,aims to explore the impact of TEPs on biofouling development during *** samples were inoculated with bacteria for several hours before filtration and the formation of“protobiofilm”(pre-colonized TEP by bacteria)was examined and its influence on biofouling was *** was observed that the bacteria can easily and quickly attach onto TEPs and form *** experiments further revealed that TEP-protobiofilms served as carriers which facilitated and accelerated transport of bacteria to membrane surface,leading to rapid development of biofouling on the ultrafiltration membrane ***,compared to the feed water containing independent bacteria and TEPs,more flux decline was observed with ***,it appeared from this study that TEP-protobiofilms play a vital role in the development of membrane biofouling,but unfortunately,this phenomenon has been often overlooked in the ***,these findings in turn may also challenge the current understanding of organic fouling and biofouling as membrane fouling caused by TEP-protobiofilm is a combination of *** is expected that this study might promote further research in general membrane fouling mechanisms and the development of an effective mitigation strategy.

By using nonuniform(geometric)grid network,a new high-order finite-difference compact scheme has been obtained for the numerical solution of three-space dimensions partial differential equations of elliptic *** cell discretization to the elliptic equation makes it easier to compute and exhibit stability of the numerical *** monotone and irreducible property of the Jacobian matrix to the system of difference equations analyses the converging behavior of the numerical solution *** an experiment,applications of the compact scheme to Schr¨odinger equations,sine-Gordon equations,elliptic Allen–Cahn equation and Poisson’s equation have been presented with root mean squared errors of exact and approximate solution *** results corroborate the reliability and efficiency of the scheme.

Above Ground Biomass Assessment from Combined Optical and SAR Remote Sensing Data in Surat Thani Province, Thailand

Today the carbon content in the atmosphere is predominantly increasing due to greenhouse gas emission and deforestation. Forest plays a key role in absorbing carbon dioxide from atmosphere by process of sequestration through photosynthesis and stores in form of wood biomass which contains nearly 70% - 80% of global carbon. Different forms of biomass in the environment include agricultural products, wood, renewable energy and solid waste. Therefore, it is essential to estimate the biomass content in the environment. in olden days, biomass is estimated by forest inventory techniques which consume lot of time and cost. The spatial distribution of biomass cannot be obtained by traditional inventory forest techniques so the application of remote sensing in biomass assessment is introduced to solve the problem. Overall accuracy of classified map indicates that land features of Surat Thani on map show an accuracy of 91.13% with different land features on ground. Both optical (LANDSAT-8) and synthetic aperture radar (ALOS-2) remote sensing data are used for above ground biomass (AGB) assessment. Biomass that stores in branch and stem of tree is called as above ground biomass. Twenty ground sample plots of 30 m × 30 m utilized for biomass calculation from allometric equations. Optical remote sensing calculates the biomass based on the spectral indices of Soil Adjusted Vegetation index (SAVi) and Ratio Vegetation index (RVi) by regression analysis (R2 = 0.813). Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an emerging technique that uses high frequency wavelengths for biomass estimation. HV backscattering of ALOS-2 shows good relation (R2 = 0.74) with field calculated biomass compared to HH (R2 = 0.43) utilizes for biomass model generation by linear regression analysis. Combination of both optical spectral indices (SAVi, RVi) and HV (ALOS-2) SAR backscattering increases the plantation biomass accuracy to (R2 = 0.859) compared to optical (R

Objective:To evaluate the presence and antibiogram pattern of Salmonella and Staphylococcus aureus(***)in retail poultry meat ***:Foodborne pathogens(Salmonella and ***)were isolated from poultry meat and confirmed with the help of biochemical and immunological *** of the isolates were examined by following CLS1 ***:A total number of 209 poultry meat samples were collected and studied in this *** of which,5.26%were found contaminated with Salmonella while 18.18%were found contaminated with *** the Salmonella and *** isolates were found resistant to at least one *** 72.72%of the Salmonella isolates showed resistance to tetracycline,while *** isolates were also found highly resistant to tetracycline equal to 44.73%.One of the Salmonella isolates showed multi-drug resistance to almost six antibiotics out of nine antibiotics used in the *** resistant *** isolates were also found in the ***:The study confirmed the presence of Salmonella and *** in retail poultry *** is a potential threat to consumer *** reduce the risk of contamination,good hygiene practices are necessary from processing to storage.
