The Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) outbreak has become a global health emergency owing to its magnitude, attributed deaths, and its propensity to spread across the world. In-fact, owing to its quick spread across international boundaries and the resulting caseload, the disease has been declared as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020. It is worth noting that out of the 395 cases detected in other nations, 165 (41.8%) have a positive history of travel to China. As of now, the World Health Organization has not recommended for any restrictions on the travel or trade aspects, but has clearly specified that implementation of International Health Regulations should be strictly done at the airports and seaports. In conclusion, the COVID-19 outbreak has created an alarm across the globe as the causative virus is novel in nature. However, strengthening of standard infection control practices and adoption of preventive measures for travelers can significantly minimize the threat of further transmission of the disease.

The coronavirus disease-2019(COVID-19)outbreak continues to expand both in terms of its geographical distribution and in terms of the caseload across the world[1].In fact,the estimates released suggest that till 19 March 2020,a total of 209839 cases of the disease were reported,of which the Western Pacific and the Eastern Mediterranean region accounts for 85.5%of the overall *** global case-fatality ratio is 4.18%and it is rapidly rising in various regions of the world[1].The outbreak started in the form of a cluster of pneumonia cases in China has promptly spread to more than 150 other nations and became a major cause of public health concern as we have fallen short of our efforts to contain the spread of the novel infection[1].

Spectrum of fungal keratitis: clinicopathologic study of 44 cases

AIM: To determine the causative agents of fungal keratitis and study the predisposing factors over a period of ten years in a single tertiary care hospital. ·METHODS: A retrospective analysis of fungal corneal ulcers was done from 2003-2012. Patients’ clinical data were noted from the file records. Correlation of histopathological diagnosis was done with the report on fungal culture. · RESULTS: Mycotic keratitis was established in 44 cases by a positive fungal culture. Direct microscopic examination of potassium hydroxide(KOH) mounts revealed fungal elements in 39 cases while 40 cases showed fungus on Gram stained smears. Males(54.55%) were more commonly affected than the females(45.45%). The age ranged from 18 to 82 years. Most common age group to be involved was 41-60 years. Predisposing risk factors were seen in 34(77.27%) cases. Most common findings on clinical examination were anterior chamber reaction and conjunctival injection seen in all the cases. Other common findings were stromal infiltration and hypopyon seen in 20(45.45%) and 18(40.91%) cases respectively. On histopathological examination the fungus was typed,as aspergillus in 34 cases while no definite typing was possible in 10 cases. The predominant isolate was aspergillus flavus(59.09%) followed by fusarium(15.91%). Mixed fungal and bacterial infection was seen in 3(6.82%) cases. ·CONCLUSION: Although culture is the gold standard for definitive diagnosis of fungal keratitis,direct microscopic examination of corneal scrapings or histomorphological evaluation of biopsies allow a rapidpreliminary diagnosis. Early administration of antifungal treatment helps in preventing dreadful complications.

BACKGROUND Smoking and chewing tobacco are associated with numerous oral mucosal lesions and conditions,often leading to cancer *** To investigate the prevalence of precancerous lesions and conditions among the Indian *** Systematic search was conducted for population or community-based observational epidemiological studies in PubMed,EMBASE,Web of Science,IndMED,Google Scholar,reports of the WHO South-East Asia Region,MOHFW India reports,Science Citation Index,WHO Index Medicus of the South-East Asian Region,Reference Citation Analysis(https://***/)and Open Grey from the earliest available up to 31st January *** effect size was calculated for the prevalence of precancerous lesions and *** One hundred sixty-two estimates from 130 studies yielded 52 high,71 moderate,and seven low-quality studies from *** estimate based on crosssectional studies for leukoplakia was 4.3%(95%CI:4.0-4.6),oral submucous fibrosis was 2.7%(95%CI:2.5-3.0),palatal lesions in reverse smokers and nicotine palatine were 5.8%(95%CI:4.4-7.2),and Erythroplakia was 1.2%(95%CI:0.7-1.7),and lichen planus was 1.1%(95%CI:0.9-1.2).Amongst hospital-based studies,the pooled prevalence for Leukoplakia was 6.7%(95%CI:6.0-7.3),oral submucous fibrosis was 4.5%(95%CI:4.2-4.9),lichen planus was 7.5%(95%CI:5.3-9.6),and erythroplakia was 2.5%(95%CI:0.4-4.5),and palatal lesions in reverse smokers and nicotine palatini were 11.5%(95%CI:8.0-15.0).CONCLUSION Precancerous lesions and conditions are prevailing problems among the Indian *** is mainly due to tobacco use,the smokeless form of *** meta-analysis indicates that hospital-based studies have a higher effect size of 6.7%than community-based *** who have already developed this condition may be advised to reduce their exposure to the risk factor to prevent the condition from progressing further.

Fibroblasts are the most abundant cellular components of connective tissue. They possess phenotypical heterogenicity and may be present in the form of smooth muscle cells or myofibroblasts(MFs). MFs are spindle-shaped cells with stress fibres and welldeveloped fibronexus,and they display α-smooth muscle actin immunohistochemically and smoothmuscle myofilaments ultrastructurally. MFs play a crucial role in physiological and pathological processes. Derived from various sources,they play pivotal roles not only by synthesizing and producing extracellular matrix components,such as other connective tissue cells,but also are involved in force production. In the tissue remodelling phase of wound closure,integrinmediated interactions between MFs and type I collagen result in scar tissue formation. The tumour stroma in oral cancer actively recruits various cell types into the tumour mass,where they act as different sources of MFs. This article reviews the importance of MFs and its role in pathological processes such as wound healing,odontogenic cysts and tumours,salivary gland tumours,oral preneoplasia,and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Research oriented on blocking the transdifferentiation of fibroblasts into MFs can facilitate the development of noninvasive therapeutic strategies for the treatment of fibrosis and/or cancer.

In this article, we discuss three difference schemes;for the numerical solution of singularity perturbed 1-D parabolic equations with singular coefficients using spline in compression. The proposed methods are of accurate and applicable to problems in both cases singular and non-singular. Stability theory of a proposed method has been discussed and numerical examples have been given in support of the theoretical results.

The visions of Industry 4.0 and 5.0 have reinforced the industrial *** have also made artificial intelligence incorporated as a major *** machine faults has become a solid foundation for automatically recognizing machine failure,and thus timely maintenance can ensure safe *** learning is a promising solution that can enhance the machine fault diagnosis model by borrowing pre-trained knowledge from the source model and applying it to the target model,which typically involves two *** response to the availability of multiple datasets,this paper proposes using selective and adaptive incremental transfer learning(SA-ITL),which fuses three algorithms,namely,the hybrid selective algorithm,the transferability enhancement algorithm,and the incremental transfer learning *** is a selective algorithm that enables selecting and ordering appropriate datasets for transfer learning and selecting useful knowledge to avoid negative *** algorithm also adaptively adjusts the portion of training data to balance the learning rate and training *** proposed algorithm is evaluated and analyzed using ten benchmark *** with other algorithms from existing works,SA-ITL improves the accuracy of all *** studies present the accuracy enhancements of the SA-ITL,including the hybrid selective algorithm(1.22%-3.82%),transferability enhancement algorithm(1.91%-4.15%),and incremental transfer learning algorithm(0.605%-2.68%).These also show the benefits of enhancing the target model with heterogeneous image datasets that widen the range of domain selection between source and target domains.

This study introduces a long-short-term memory(LSTM)-based neural network model developed for detecting anomaly events in care-independent smart homes,focusing on the critical application of elderly fall *** balances the dataset using the Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique(SMOTE),effectively neutralizing bias to address the challenge of unbalanced datasets prevalent in time-series classification *** proposed LSTM model is trained on the enriched dataset,capturing the temporal dependencies essential for anomaly *** model demonstrated a significant improvement in anomaly detection,with an accuracy of 84%.The results,detailed in the comprehensive classification and confusion matrices,showed the model’s proficiency in distinguishing between normal activities and *** study contributes to the advancement of smart home safety,presenting a robust framework for real-time anomaly monitoring.
