Polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)is a common endocrine disorder characterized by a hormonal imbalance that affects females of reproductive *** association between advanced glycation end products(AGEs)and PCOS has attracted considerable attention in recent years,highlighting the potential of AGEs as biomarkers for this *** the present systematic review and meta-analysis,we aimed to examine the association between AGEs and PCOS,evaluate their potential as biomarkers,and improve our understanding of the pathophysiology of PCOS and its associated metabolic complications.A literature search was performed using various databases from January 2000 to March 2023 to identify relevant studies investigating the association between AGEs and *** effect estimates were calculated using standardized mean differences(SMD)with 95%confidence intervals(CIs).Sub-group and meta-regression analyses were performed to examine potential sources of *** meta-analysis included six studies with a total of 623 *** results revealed a significant increase in circulating AGE levels in females with PCOS compared to healthy females(SMD=2.35;95%CI:1.10-3.60;Pgroup analyses based on body mass index,age,and homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance indicated differential effects of AGEs on specific *** systematic review and meta-analysis support the association between elevated AGE levels and PCOS,thereby suggesting the potential role of AGEs as biomarkers in PCOS.

Exogenous ketogenic supplements can mitigate the susceptibility to Alzheimer’s disease induced by chronic sleep deprivation:emerging role of Sirt1 in ferroptosis

Emerging evidence supports that sleep disorders are the main risk factor for sporadic Alzheimer’s disease (AD)， and iron dysregulation may be the link between them. Our previous studies have confirmed that ketogenic diet (KD) can prevent chronic sleep deprivation-induced AD. However， it is uncertain whether exogenous ketones supplements (EKS)， as an alternative intervention， have the same effects as KD. Thus， we investigated the prophylactic efficiency of EKS on chronic sleep deprivation-induced AD and reveal the underlying mechanism focus on iron metabolism. We observed that the prophylactic efficacy of EKS against chronic sleep deprivation-induced AD was comparable to that of KD. Meanwhile， our results suggest that both EKS and KD inhibited iron metabolism disorder through regulation of iron metabolism-related proteins. Moreover， we found that both EKS and KD reduced hippocampal mitochondrial dysfunction and iron-mediated lipid peroxides. Furthermore， EX527 (Sirt1 inhibitor)， mostly abrogated these above protections of EKS， suggesting that the prophylactic effect of EKS on AD is partly dependent on Sirt1. Our findings provide novel evidence that EKS can be developed as functional foods to prevent or delay the development of AD， particularly in individuals with sleep disorders.

Background Rumen bacterial groups can affect growth performance,such as average daily gain(ADG),feed intake,and *** study aimed to investigate the inter-relationship of rumen bacterial composition,rumen fermentation indicators,serum indicators,and growth performance of Holstein heifer calves with different *** calves were chosen from a trail with 60 calves and divided into higher ADG(HADG,high pre-and post-weaning ADG,n=6)and lower ADG(LADG,low pre-and post-weaning ADG,n=6)groups to investigate differences in bacterial composition and functions and host *** During the preweaning period,the relative abundances of propionate producers,including g_norank_f_Butyricicoccaceae,g_Pyramidobacter,and g_norank_f_norank_o_Clostridia_vadin BB60_group,were higher in HADG calves(LDA>2,P<0.05).Enrichment of these bacteria resulted in increased levels of propionate,a gluconeogenic precursor,in preweaning HADG calves(adjusted P<0.05),which consequently raised serum glucose concentrations(adjusted P<0.05).In contrast,the relative abundances of rumen bacteria in post-weaning HADG calves did not exert this ***,no significant differences were observed in rumen fermentation parameters and serum indices between the two *** The findings of this study revealed that the preweaning period is the window of opportunity for rumen bacteria to regulate the ADG of calves.

Vitamin A deficiency suppresses CEACAM1 to impair colonic epithelial barrier function via downregulating microbial-derived short-chain fatty acids

Vitamin A (VA) plays an essential role in modulating both the gut microbiota and gut barrier ***-chain fatty acids (SCFAs),as metabolites of the gut microbiota,protect the physiological intestinal barrier;however,they are compromised when VA is ***,there is an urgent need to understand how and which SCFAs modulate colonic epithelial barrier integrity in VA deficiency (VAD).Herein,compared with normal VA rats (VAN),at the beginning of pregnancy,we confirmed that the colonic desmosome junction was impaired in the VAD group,and the amounts of acetate,propionate,and butyrate declined because of the decreased abundance of SCFA-producing bacteria (Romboutsia ,Collinsella ,and Allobaculum ).The differentially expressed genes correlated with the gut barrier and the histone deacetylase complex between the VAD and VAN groups were enriched by RNA *** the VAD group,the expression levels of colonic CEA cell adhesion molecule 1 (CEACAM1) were down-regulated,and the levels of histone deacetylase 1 (HDAC1) and HDAC3 were ***,the above changes in the VAD groups were rescued by VA supplementation in the early postnatal *** study indicated that in Caco-2 cells,butyrate treatment significantly repressed the enrichment of HDAC3 on the promoter of the CEACAM1 gene to induce its *** findings support that butyrate intervention can alleviate the impairment of colonic barrier function caused by VAD,and timely postnatal VA intervention may reverse the damage caused by VAD on gut barrier integrity during pregnancy.

Effect of age on the standardized ileal amino acid digestibility of soybean meal and canola meal in broilers

Retinoic acid alleviates rotavirus-induced intestinal damage by regulating redox homeostasis and autophagic flux in piglets

Rotaviruses(RV) are a major cause of severe gastroenteritis, particularly in neonatal piglets. Despite the availability of effective vaccines, the development of antiviral therapies for RV remains an ongoing challenge. Retinoic acid(RA), a metabolite of vitamin A, has been shown to have anti-oxidative and antiviral properties. However, the mechanism by which RA exerts its intestinal-protective and antiviral effects on RV infection is not fully understood. The study investigates the effects of RA supplementation in Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire(DLY) piglets challenged with RV. Thirty-six DLY piglets were assigned into six treatments, including a control group, RA treatment group with two concentration gradients(5and 15 mg/d), RV treatment group, and RV treatment group with the addition of different concentration gradients of RA(5 and 15 mg/d). Our study revealed that RV infection led to extensive intestinal architecture damage, which was mitigated by RA treatment at lower concentrations by increasing the villus height and villus height/crypt depth ratio(P research demonstrated that RA exerts a dual impact on the regulation of autophagy, both stimulating the initiation of autophagy and hindering the flow of autophagic flux. Through the modulation of autophagic flux, RA influence the progression of RV infection. These findings provide new insights into the regulation of redox hemostasis and autophagy by RA and its potential therapeutic application in RV infection.

ASD (autism spectrum disorder) is a neurodevelopmental disorder influenced by genes and the environment. This study investigated the protective effects of bovine MFGM (BMFGM) and goat MFGM (GMFGM) supplementation on ASD model mice. Analysis of phospholipid composition showed higher levels of phosphatidylcholine in BMFGM and phosphatidylethanolamine in GMFGM. Behavioral results indicated MFGMs ameliorated social deficits， with GMFGM being more effective. MFGMs mitigated neuroinflammation by suppressing microglial overactivation and proinflammatory cytokines expression， meanwhile GMFGM increased the anti-inflammatory factor IL-10. MFGMs also altered gut microbiota composition and maintained gut barrier integrity. Uniquely， GMFGM increased butyrate production. Correlation analysis revealed positive associations between social behavior， levels of phosphatidylcholine， sphingomyelin， and the abundance of Allobaculum， Clostridium＿sensu＿stricto， and Turicibacter. Overall， these findings revealed the protective effects of MFGMs on neurodevelopment in ASD animal models and the underlying mechanism could be partly explained by their regulation of gut microbiota by the phospholipid components in MFGMs.
