Background Psychiatric comorbidities are common in patients with *** for the co-occurrence of psychiatric conditions and epilepsy remain poorly *** We aimed to triangulate the relationship between epilepsy and psychiatric conditions to determine the extent and possible origins of these *** Using nationwide Swedish health registries,we quantified the lifetime prevalence of psychiatric disorders in patients with *** then used summarydata from genome-wide association studies to investigate whether the identified observational associations could be attributed to a shared underlying genetic aetiology using cross-trait linkage disequilibrium score ***,we assessed the potential bidirectional relationships using two-sample Mendelian *** In a cohort of 7628495 individuals,we found that almost half of the 94435 individuals diagnosed with epilepsy were also diagnosed with a psychiatric condition in their lifetime(adjusted lifetime prevalence,44.09%;95%confidence interval(Cl)43.78%to 44.39%).We found evidence for a genetic correlation between epilepsy and some neurodevelopmental and psychiatric *** example,we observed a genetic correlation between epilepsy and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder(r,=0.18,95%Cl 0.09 to 0.27,p<0.001)—a correlation that was more pronounced in focal epilepsy(r=0.23,95%CI 0.09 to 0.36,p<0.001).Findings from Mendelian randomisation using common genetic variants did not support bidirectional effects between epilepsy and neurodevelopmental or psychiatric *** Psychiatric comorbidities are common in patients with *** correlations may partially explain some comorbidities;however,there is little evidence of a bidirectional relationship between the genetic liability of epilepsy and psychiatric *** findings highlight the need to understand the role of environmental factors or rare genetic variations in the origins of psy

Mechanical properties and fracture mechanism of Fe/Cu composite sheets with Al interlayer after annealing treatment

The feasibility of preparing Fe/Cu composite sheet was achieved by introducing submillimeter thickness Al sheet as an interlayer by rolling at room *** shear test of the composite sheet supported that the metallurgical bonding strength between Fe/(Al)/Cu interface was stronger than that of Cu sheet at the initial *** further 300 or 600℃ annealing treatments,the interlayer subsequently exhibited brittle shear fracture,and the shear strength significantly dropped under the shear ***,the tensile test pointed out that the tensile fracture mechanism changed from fracture as a whole structure to interlayer-to-layer delamination mode after annealing *** microstructure and X-ray diffraction observations proved that the formation of Cu–Al intermetallic compounds(IMCs)along the interlayer resulted in brittle fracture,rather than that of Fe–Al IMCs after annealing,especially under 600℃ annealing *** investigation of the effect of the rolling process and annealing treatment on the mechanical properties of the Fe/(Al)/Cu composite sheet shall provide instruction for high-quality composite metallic sheet fabrication.

Integrating time progression in ecoimmunology studies: beyond immune response intensity

Habitat alterations in agroecosystems may damage amphibian immune capacity. As agroecosystem extension is increasing worldwide, broader-context knowledge on the effects of agroecosystem stressful conditions on amphibian immune capacity is crucial for understanding and management of amphibian global declines. However, most studies on ecoimmunology assume synchronal amonggroup immune-response peaks, and focus on immune response after standardized time lapses, neglecting its progress!on. Herein, I compared inflamatory response short-term progression of agro ecosystem and n atural-habitat female and male n atterjack toads Epi da lea calamita, by measuri ng swelling response, once per hour, 6 h following an artificial immune challenge with innocuous antigen phytohemagglutinin. I also compared maximum magnitude of swelling response, irrespective of the moment when it was reached. Habitat differences arose only 3 h after challenge, when naturalhabitat toads showed greater swelling response. Maximum magnitude of swelling response was similar in toads from both habitats. However, agroecosystem toads showed a delayed swelling response as compared with natural-habitat conspecifics, probably as a consequenee of agroecosystem stressful conditions. Such a delay suggests a weaker immune capacity, and consequently impaired anti-pathogen performance. Regarding sex, swelling response magnitude did not differ between males and females. Female swelling response peaked earlier, but that of males was more sustai ned in time, which con tradicts general across-taxa fin dings that males show impaired immune response. Interestingly, results suggest that measuring swelling response only after some standardized period following stimulation may be a simplistic approach and produce unrealistic results. Consequently, studies on ecoimmunology should implement swelling response progression in order to produce unbiased science.

Is the soil seed bank a reliable source for passive restoration of bush-cleared semi-arid rangelands of South Africa?

Background:Bush clearing of encroached rangelands is crucial for restoration of herbaceous cover and *** after bush clearing depends largely on the soil seed bank(SSB)size and *** assess the potential of the SSB to facilitate post-clearing herbaceous restoration,we examined the SSB density,composition and diversity and similarity between SSB and aboveground vegetation(AGV).Methods:The study was conducted in semi-arid rangelands of Maseding and Kgomokgomo in North-West Province of South *** each rangeland,all woody plants in three 1250 m^(2) plots were cut using saws and loppers,with the stumps treated with *** observations were conducted in cleared and uncleared *** samples were collected at three depths(0-10,10-20 and 20-30 cm)in each microsite in April(pretreatment),August,October and December 2016 and in April and August *** was assessed using seedling emergence method,whereas pre-and post-clearing surveys of AGV were conducted in February 2016 and 2017,***:Cleared microsites had significantly(p<0.01)higher seed bank densities(1872 and 693 seeds m^(-2) at Maseding and Kgomokgomo,respectively)relative to uncleared microsites in August 2017,with grasses accounting for higher densities than other plant functional groups in the upper 0-10 *** grasses(Aristida congesta ***,Brachiaria eruciformis and Tragus berteronianus)and invasive forbs(Bidens pilosa and Schkuhria pinnata)dominated the SSB in cleared microsites at Maseding,whereas succulents(Portulaca spp.)and pioneer grasses(*** and Urochloa mosambicensis)were abundant at Kgomokgomo in August *** and AGV were dissimilar until December 2016;thereafter,similarity increased significantly(p<0.05)in cleared microsites(Sørensen’s coefficient=0.60 to 0.66 at Maseding and 0.43 to 0.52 at Kgomokgomo)compared to uncleared *** diversity was highest in August 2016 and April 2017 at Maseding,but

Analysis on Trade Gains from the Economic Dual Circulation in China

Accelerating the building of a new development pattern with domestic market as the mainstay and domestic and international markets reinforcing each other is a major decision made by the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core in light of changes in the development stage,environment and conditions in *** gains are an important indicator of the development trend of domestic and international circulations for a *** the quantitative model of trade gains containing the multi-sectoral input-output relations,this paper estimates the trade gains from the economic dual circulation in China between 1987 and 2017,based on the kernel density estimation and Markov chain,and the main findings are as follows.(1)The trade gains from the domestic circulation in China showed a downward trend,while the trade gains from the international circulation presented a trend of first rising and then *** the former still outweighed the latter.(2)Compared with the international circulation,the continuity,spatial correlation effect and rising potential of the trade gains from China's domestic circulation were greater.(3)There was no positive spatial correlation effect between the trade gains from the domestic and those from the international *** should make overall plans for opening up both externally and internally,and unblock sticking points between the two circulations,so as to realize the positive interaction of the trade gains from the dual circulation,and accelerate the formation of a new development pattern with domestic market as the mainstay and domestic and international markets reinforcing each other.

New perspectives for mesenchymal stromal cells as an adjuvant therapy for infectious disease-associated encephalopathies

Knowledge of the mechanisms that trigger infection-related encephalopathies is still very limited and cell therapies are one of the most promising alternatives for neurodegenerative diseases,and its application in infectious diseases can be of great *** stromal cells are cells with great immunomodulatory potential;therefore,their use in clinical and preclinical studies in a variety of diseases,including central nervous system diseases,increased in the last *** stromal cells can exert their beneficial effects through several mechanisms,such as direct cell contact,through surface receptors,and also through paracrine or endocrine *** paracrine mechanism is widely accepted by the scientific community and involves the release of soluble factors,which include cytokines,chemokines and trophic factors,and extracellular *** mini review discusses mesenchymal stromal cells mechanisms of action in neurological disorders,the neuroinflammatory process that takes place in the brain as a result of peripheral inflammation and changes in the brain’s cellular scenario as a common factor in central nervous system diseases,and mesenchymal stromal cells therapy in *** stromal cells have been shown to act in neuroinflammation processes,leading to improved survival and mitigating behavioral *** recently,these cells have been tested in preclinical models of infectious diseases-associated encephalopathies(e.g.,cerebral malaria and sepsis associated encephalopathy)and have shown satisfactory results.
