Dear Editor,Steroid hormones are crucial signal molecules that regulate a large number of physiological and developmental *** is the key steroid hormone required for the development of male characteristics and also supports the physiology of the male reproductive system(Sinclair et al.,2015).Testosterone is primarily produced by the Leydig cells residing in the testicular *** cholesterol acts as a substrate for the biosynthesis of *** steroidogenic cells are capable of stor-ing only very ltte hormone,rapid synthesis of hormone requires the mobilization of the precursor cholesterol,chiefly stored as intracellular lipid droplets(LDs)(Danielsen et al.,2016).Leydig cells are the major sites to produce testos-terone,there are extremely active autophagy in them,and a decline in steroidogenesis has also been associated with the decline of autophagic ***,the disruption of autophagy leads to decreased intracellular LDs,and there-fore affects testosterone synthesis in the Leydig cells(Danielsen et al..2016;Gao et al,2018).

Superoxide dismutase 2(SOD2)-mediated gene therapy has significant protective effects against kanamycin-induced hearing loss and hair cell loss in the inner ear,but the underlying mechanisms are still ***,an in vivo aging model of mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA)4834 deletion mutation was established using D-galactose,and the effects of noise or kanamycin on inner ear injury was *** subjected to mtDNA4834 mutation via D-galactose administration showed hearing loss characterized by the disruption of inner ear structure(abnormal cell morphology,hair cell lysis,and the absence of the organ of Corti),increased SOD2 promoter methylation,and an increase in the degree of *** to noise or kanamycin further contributed to the effects of ***2 overexpression induced by viral injection accordingly counteracted the effects of noise and kanamycin and ameliorated the symptoms of hearing loss,suggesting the critical involvement of SOD2 in preventing deafness and hearing-related *** PI3K and MAPK signaling pathways were also regulated by noise/kanamycin exposure and/or SOD2 overexpression,indicating that they may be involved in the therapeutic effect of SOD2 against age-related hearing loss.

Novel double-layer Silastic testicular prosthesis with controlled release of testosterone in vitro, and its effects on castrated rats

Testicular prostheses have been used to deal with anorchia for nearly 80 years. Here, we evaluated a novel testicular prosthesis that can controllably release hormones to maintain physiological levels of testosterone in vivo for a long time. Silastic testicular prostheses with controlled release of testosterone （STPT） with different dosages of testosterone undecanoate （TU） were prepared and implanted into castrated Sprague-Dawley rats. TU oil was applied by oral administration to a separate group of castrated rats. Castrated untreated and sham-operated groups were used as controls. Serum samples from every group were collected to measure the levels of testosterone （T）, follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone （LH）. Maximum intracavernous penile pressure （ICPmax） was recorded. The prostates and seminal vesicles were weighed and subjected to histology, and a terminal dexynucleotidyl transferase-mediated UTP nick end labeling （TUNEL） assay was used to evaluate apoptosis. Our results revealed that the weights of these tissues and the levels of T and LH showed significant statistical differences in the oral administration and TU replacement groups compared with the castrated group （P 〈 0.05）. Compared with the sham-operated group, the ICPmax, histology and TUNEL staining for apoptosis, showed no significant differences in the hormone replacement groups implanted with medium and high doses of STPT. Our results suggested that this new STPT could release TU stably through its double semi-permeable membranes with excellent biocompatibility. The study provides a new approach for testosterone replacement therapy.

A retrospective study on sperm cryopreservation in 1034 patients diagnosed with cancer in southern China

Sperm cryopreservation is an effective fertility preservation method for cancer patients before anticancer treatments. However, thereare little data on fertility preservation in large cohorts of patients with cancer in southern China. This retrospective cross-sectionalstudy aimed to assess the fertility preservation status of 1034 newly diagnosed male patients with cancer in the Human Spermbank of Guangdong Province in southern China (Guangzhou, China). Of these, 302 patients had reproductive system tumors,mostly testicular cancers (99.0%), and 732 had other tumors, including lymphoma (33.1%), gastrointestinal cancer (16.3%),nasopharyngeal carcinoma (15.7%), leukemia (7.7%), sarcoma (3.6%), and others (23.6%). Patients with reproductive systemtumors had lower sperm concentration and prefreezing and post-thawing progressive motility than those with non-reproductive systemtumors (all P al morphology rate were observed betweenpatients with and without anticancer surgery before sperm cryopreservation (all P aluable data on the fertility preservation status in newly diagnosed cancer patients in southern China, demonstrating that patientswith reproductive system tumors had poor sperm quality for their pretreatment fertility preservation.

Magnusiomyces capitatus in Immune-Competent Patients with Pulmonary Haemorrhage and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus

Invasive fungal infections have grown significantly over the last two decades, owing to an increase in immunocompromised hosts and geriatric patients. When the host’s defenses are compromised, such infections are associated with severe morbidity and mortality. Here, a rare case of fungal infection in a 61-year-old immunocompetent male patient from Saudi Arabia was reported, who suffered from pulmonary hemorrhage and Systemic Lupus Erythematous. Bronchoalveolar Lavage was used as a diagnostic tool to identify the fungus reported in the case. The pathogenic fungal specie identified as Magnusiomyces capitatus, in macroscopic and microscopic morphological characteristics of the colonies. Based on clinical evidence, liposomal amphotericin formulation was recommended for initial therapy against fungal infection. also, liposomal amphotericin B induced mycological eradication up to 70 percent in patients with proven Magnusiomyces capitatus infection. In addition to addressing suspected Systemic lupus erythematosus, the patient’s health has improved with no evidence of pulmonary bleeding and hemoptysis.

To the Editor:Montegazza in 1866 was the first to suggest banks for frozen human semen.[1]In 1981,China's first human sperm bank was successfully established at the CITIC Xiangya *** the previous four decades,from 1981 to 2020,there were 27 human sperm banks in Chinese *** sperm banks provide cryopreservation of spermatozoa services for males needing to preserve fertility for an extended period in the Chinese mainland.
