Productivity and technical efficiency of Robusta coffee farms at varying elevation categories in Sultan Kudarat, Philippines: implications on sustainability

Elevation can affect agricultural outputs,affecting farms’productivity and *** article identified the significant production inputs influencing productivity and factors influencing technical efficiency(TE)and determined the average TE scores of Robusta coffee farms at varying elevations in Sultan Kudarat,***-sectional data from the Mahintana Foundation,*** random stratified sampling and power analysis from September 9,2021,to January 13,2022,were used to analyze 604 farms from areas ranging from 0.33 to 1284.18 above mean sea level(amsl),classified as low,medium,and high ***-Data-Kit-based(ODK)mobile data collection systems were utilized to precisely determine the farms’coordinates and *** stochastic frontier analysis,results showed that increasing the total fertilizer amount and total trees by 1%significantly increased yield by 0.20%and 0.79%,***,increasing the total land area by 1%,including areas unutilized for coffee farming,decreases total yield by 0.11%.Regarding TE,results showed that TE decreases by approximately 0.58%at high ***,increasing net income from coffee farming alone by 1%significantly increases TE by 0.00008%.With an average TE of 0.60,0.77,and 0.63 in low,medium,and high elevations,farms may be incentivized to improve farming practices to increase their TE *** improvement recommendations include promoting coffee-agroforestry systems and ecolabelling at medium elevations,such as shade-grown coffee,to promote sustainable production in Robusta coffee farms by assigning a premium to consumers demanding environmental conservation.

Assessment of Flood Catastrophe Risk for Grain Production at the Provincial Scale in China Based on the BMM Method

Flood catastrophe risk assessment is imperative for the steady development of agriculture under the context of global climate change,and meanwhile,it is an urgent scientific issue need to be solved in agricultural risk assessment *** paper developed the methodology of flood catastrophe risk assessment,which can be shown as the standard process of crop loss calculation,Monte Carlo simulation,the generalized extreme value distribution（GEV） fitting,and risk *** on crop loss were collected based on hectares covered by natural disasters,hectares affected by natural disasters,and hectares destroyed by natural disasters using the standard *** Carlo simulation based on appropriate distribution was used to expand sample size to overcome the insufficiency of crop loss *** maxima model（BMM） approach based on the extreme value theory was for modeling the generalized extreme value distribution（GEV） of flood catastrophe loss,and then flood catastrophe risk at the provincial scale in China was *** Type III Extreme distribution（Weibull） has a weighted advantage of modeling flood catastrophe risk for grain *** impact of flood catastrophe to grain production in China was significantly serious,and high or very high risk of flood catastrophe mainly concentrates on the central and eastern regions of *** the scenario of suffering once-in-a-century flood disaster,for majority of the major-producing provinces,the probability of 10% reduction of grain output is more than 90%.Especially,the probabilities of more than 15% decline in grain production reach up to 99.99,99.86,99.69,and 91.60% respectively in Anhui,Jilin,Liaoning,and *** catastrophe assessment can provide multifaceted information about flood catastrophe risk that can help to guide management of flood catastrophe.

Estimation of genetic parameters and their sampling variances for quantitative traits in the type 2 modified augmented design

The type 2 modified augmented design(MAD2) is an efficient unreplicated experimental design used for evaluating large numbers of lines in plant breeding and for assessing genetic variation in a population. Statistical methods and data adjustment for soil heterogeneity have been previously described for this design. In the absence of replicated test genotypes in MAD2, their total variance cannot be partitioned into genetic and error components as required to estimate heritability and genetic correlation of quantitative traits, the two conventional genetic parameters used for breeding selection. We propose a method of estimating the error variance of unreplicated genotypes that uses replicated controls, and then of estimating the genetic parameters. Using the Delta method, we also derived formulas for estimating the sampling variances of the genetic *** simulations indicated that the proposed method for estimating genetic parameters and their sampling variances was feasible and the reliability of the estimates was positively associated with the level of heritability of the trait. A case study of estimating the genetic parameters of three quantitative traits, iodine value, oil content, and linolenic acid content, in a biparental recombinant inbred line population of flax with 243 individuals, was conducted using our statistical models. A joint analysis of data over multiple years and sites was suggested for genetic parameter estimation. A pipeline module using SAS and Perl was developed to facilitate data analysis and appended to the previously developed MAD data analysis pipeline(http://***/bioinformatics_ tools/MADPipeline/***).

Price Transmission in China's Swine Industry with an Application of MCM

The paper studies the relationship, adjustment ability, path, efficiency and intensity of price transmission in the swine industry chain in China, which consists of the prices of corn, compound feed for fattening pig, piglet, pig and pork. Monthly prices covering a period of 18 yr （1994-2011） are analyzed using a Market-chain Cooperated Model （MCM）. The empirical results show that there exists a stable long-term cointegration and short-term dynamic relationship in the price system. First, the adjustment speed of each price series is very slow and the transmission path is top-down and one-way significantly. Second, the price from upstream to downstream lags about 2 mort, while there is no lag in price transmission from midstream to downstream. Third, in terms of price transmission intensity, the price of pig impacted greatly on pork price, not only in the current period but also through the whole period. Besides, the price of corn has the largest lagged effects on pork price. According to the above empirical results, we suggest that government should strengthen monitoring and early warning of the swine industry chain, especially the upstream and midstream, attach great importance to the timely adjustment of feed prices and perfect the measures of price subsidy.

Late Paleozoic to Mesozoic Intrusions Distribution in the North Sanjiang Orogenic Belt,Southwest China:Evidence from Zircon U-Pb Dating and Geochemistry

A mosaic of terranes or blocks and associated Late Paleozoic to Mesozoic sutures are characteristics of the north Sanjiang orogenic belt （NSOB）. A detailed field study and sampling across the three magmatic belts in north Sanjiang orogenic belt, which are the Jomda-Weixi magmatic belt, the Yidun magmatic belt and the Northeast Lhasa magmatic belt, yield abundant data that demonstrate multiphase magmatism took place during the late Paleozoic to early Mesozoic. 9 new zircon LA-ICP-MS U-Pb ages and 160 published geochronological data have identified five continuous episodes of magma activities in the NSOB from the Late Paleozoic to Mesozoic： the Late Permian to Early Triassic （c. 261-230 Ma）; the Middle to Late Triassic （c. 229-210 Ma）; the Early to Middle Jurassic （c. 206-165 Ma）; the Early Cretaceous （c. 138-110 Ma） and the Late Cretaceous （c. 103-75 Ma）. 105 new and 830 published geochemical data reveal that the intrusive rocks in different episodes have distinct geochemical compositions. The Late Permian to Early Triassic intrusive rocks are all distributed in the Jomda-Weixi magmatic belt, showing arc-like characteristics; the Middle to Late Triassic intrusive rocks widely distributed in both Jomda-Weixi and Yidun magmatic belts, also demonstrating volcanic-arc granite features; the Early to Middle Jurassic intrusive rocks are mostly exposed in the easternmost Yidun magmatic belt and scattered in the westernmost Yangtza Block along the Garze-Litang suture, showing the properties of syn-collisional granite; nearly all the Early Cretaceous intrusive rocks distributed in the NE Lhasa magmatic belt along Bangong suture, exhibiting both arc-like and syn-collision-like characteristics; and the Late Cretaceous intrusive rocks mainly exposed in the westernmost Yidun magmatic belt, with A-type granite features. These suggest that the co-collision related magmatism in Indosinian period developed in the central and eastern parts of NSOB while the Yanshan period co-collision

Objective As the third most important copper polymetallic metallogenic belt in Tibet, the Bangongco-Nujiang metallogenic belt （BNMB） has attracted much attention among geoscientists all over the world （Lin Bin et al., 2017a）. There are two ore clusters in the westem of BNMB, the Duolong giant porphyry-epitherrnal Cu （Au, Ag） ore cluster and the Ga＇erqiong-Galalelarge porphyry- skarn Cu （Au） ore cluster （Lin Bin et al., 2017a; 2017b）. Now, the latest exploration advances show that the Kuga project is the first economic porphyry-skam copper deposit in the eastern of BNMB, with over 0.4 Mt melt copper （333＋334） @ 0.9%. However, the Kuga deposit is poorly studied about its diagenetic age. In this study, we present a zircon U-Pb LA-ICP-MS dating of ore-bearing biotite granite, in order to identify the time of the ore- related magmatism and reveal the relationship with the westem of BNMB.

Identification and evolutionary characterization of SFBB genes in‘Yali’and its spontaneous self-compatible mutant‘Jinzhui’(Pyrus bretschneideri)

Pears carry a gametophytic self-incompatibility(SI)*** this system,S-RNase is the SI pistil determinant,and S-locus F-box brothers(SFBBs)are candidate pollen ***,compared with apple,fewer SFBB genes were identified from pear,possibly caused by the lack of economic and effective ***,we used transcriptome sequencing on‘Yali’(Pyrus bretschneideri)to obtain sequence fragments of SFBB genes and then used polymerase chain reaction(PCR)to amplify the whole sequence of SFBB ***-seven SFBB genes,including22 full-length and five nonfull-length SFBB genes,were identified in‘Yali’(***).SFBBs linkage analysis by PCR-enzyme-linked immunoassay(ELISA)showed that 12 SFBB genes belong to the S21 locus,and 15 SFBB genes belong to the S34 *** analysis showed that SFBB genes from Pyrus were divided into 26 types,more than the original eight *** intrahaplotypic divergence of SFBBs is high and comparable to the allelic diversity of S-RNase,which is consistent with a nonself-recognition SI *** addition,the expression level of PbrSFBBs in‘Jinzhui’,the only known haploid pollen of a self-compatible mutant,was mostly approximately two times higher than in‘Yali’,which may be the reason for the self-compatible mutant.

Characterization of starch morphology, composition, physicochemical properties and gene expressions in oat

Starch is the major carbohydrate in oat （Avena sativa L.） and starch formation requires the coordinated actions of several synthesis enzymes. In this study, the granule morphology, composition and physicochemical properties of oat starch, as well as the expressions of starch synthesis genes were investigated during oat endosperm development. Under the scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, we observed that the unique compound granules were developed in oat endosperms at 10 days post anthesis （DPA） and then fragmented into irregular or polygonal simple granules from 12 DPA until seed maturity. The amylose content, branch chain length of degree of polymerization （DP=13-24）, gelatinization temperature and percentage of retrogradation were gradually increased during the endosperm development; whereas the distribution of short chains （DP=6-12） were gradually decreased. The relative expressions of 4 classes of 13 starch synthesis genes characterized in this study indicated that three expression pattern groups were significantly different among gene classes as well as among varied isoforms, in which the first group of starch synthesis genes may play a key role on the initiation of starch synthesis in oat endosperms.

The development of alkaline fuel cells is moving forward at an accelerated pace,and the application of ether-free bonded polymers to anion exchange membranes （AEMs） has been widely ***,the question of the“trade-off”between AEM ionic conductivity and dimensional stability remains *** strategy of inducing microphase separation to improve the performance of AEM has attracted much attention recently,but the design of optimal molecular structures is still being ***,this work introduced different ratios of 3-bromo-1,1,1-trifluoroacetone （x=40,50,and 60） into the main chain of poly（p-terphenylene isatin）.Because fluorinated groups have excellent hydrophobicity,hydrophilic hydroxyl-containing side chains are introduced to jointly adjust the formation of phase separation *** results show that PTI-PTF50-NOH AEM with the appropriate fluorinated group ratio has the best ionic conductivity and alkali stability under the combined effect of *** has an ionic conductivity of 133.83 mS cm-1at 80°*** addition,the OH-conductivity remains at 89%of the initial value at 80°C and 3 M KOH for 1056 h of *** cell polarization curve based on PTI-PTF50-NOH shows a power density of 734.76 mW cm-2at a current density of 1807.7 mA cm-2.

The scope for manipulating the polyunsaturated fatty acid content of beef:a review

Since 1950, links between intake of saturated fatty acids and heart disease have led to recommendations to limit consumption of saturated fatty acid-rich foods, including beef. Over this time, changes in food consumption patterns in several countries including Canada and the USA have not led to improvements in health. Instead, the incidence of obesity, type II diabetes and associated diseases have reached epidemic proportions owing in part to replacement of dietary fat with refined carbohydrates. Despite the content of saturated fatty acids in beef, it is also rich in heart healthy cis-monounsaturated fatty acids, and can be an important source of long-chain omega-3（n-3） fatty acids in populations where little or no oily fish is consumed. Beef also contains polyunsaturated fatty acid biohydrogenation products,including vaccenic and rumenic acids, which have been shown to have anticarcinogenic and hypolipidemic properties in cell culture and animal models. Beef can be enriched with these beneficial fatty acids through manipulation of beef cattle diets, which is now more important than ever because of increasing public understanding of the relationships between diet and health. The present review examines recommendations for beef in human diets, the need to recognize the complex nature of beef fat, how cattle diets and management can alter the fatty acid composition of beef, and to what extent content claims are currently possible for beef fatty acids.
