Quantitative evaluation of urban park cool island factors in mountain city

Evaluating how park characteristics affect the formation of a park cool island(PCI) is the premise of guiding green parks planning in mountain *** diurnal variation of PCI intensity was achieved,and correlations between PCI intensity and park characteristics such as park area,landscape shape index(LSI),green ratio and altitude were analyzed,using 3 010 temperature and humidity data from measurements in six parks with typical park characteristics in Chongqing,*** results indicate that:1) the main factor determining PCI intensity is park area,which leads to obvious cool island effect when it exceeds 14 hm2;2) there is a negative correlation between PCI intensity and LSI,showing that the rounder the park shape is,the better the cool island effect could be achieved;3) regression analysis of humidity and PCI intensity proves that photosynthesis midday depression(PMD) is an important factor causing the low PCI intensity at 13:00;4) the multivariable linear regression model proposed here could effectively well predict the daily PCI intensity in mountain cities.

Given that it was a once-in-a-century emergency event,the confinement measures related to the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic caused diverse disruptions and changes in life and work *** changes significantly affected water consumption both during and after the pandemic,with direct and indirect consequences on ***,there has been a lack of holistic evaluation of these ***,we propose a novel framework to study the impacts of this unique global emergency event by embedding an environmentally extended supply-constrained global multi-regional input-output model(MRIO)into the drivers-pressure-state-impact-response(DPSIR)*** framework allowed us to develop scenarios related to COVID-19 confinement measures to quantify country-sector-specific changes in freshwater consumption and the associated changes in biodiversity for the period of *** results suggest progressively diminishing impacts due to the implementation of COVID-19 vaccines and the socio-economic system’s self-adjustment to the new *** 2020,the confinement measures were estimated to decrease global water consumption by about 5.7% on average across all scenarios when compared with the baseline level with no confinement ***,such a decrease is estimated to lead to a reduction of around 5% in the related pressure on *** the interdependencies and interactions across global supply chains,even those countries and sectors that were not directly affected by the COVID-19 shocks experienced significant impacts:Our results indicate that the supply chain propagations contributed to 79% of the total estimated decrease in water consumption and 84%of the reduction in biodiversity loss on *** study demonstrates that the MRIO-enhanced DSPIR framework can help quantify resource pressures and the resultant environmental impacts across supply chains when facing a global emergency ***,we recommend the development o

Sustainable reclamation practices for large surface coal mines in USA semiarid environment contribute to the quality of the environmental on a long term basis where environmental resources are protected for future ***,after reclamation,must be suitable for the previous use of greatest economic or social values to the community *** the semiarid climate of USA,non-developed land is mainly utilized for crops,grazing,and *** of various stages of the reclamation processes includes verifcation and approval of reclamation criteria and performance standards created by state *** sustainable reclamation practices were investigated at the USA’s largest surface coal mine of the semiarid environment in *** practices include building post-mining topography to the approximate original contour and reestablish a stable hydrologic system to drain surface *** available spoil material is backflled and graded to achieve the post-mining topography which closely resembles the pre-mining *** overburden material or other coal waste material is left in stockpiles at the *** planning until the end of mining,the knowledge of available volumes of suitable backfll material and soil is necessary for sustainable management *** and permanent vegetation capable of stabilizing soil surfaces and capable of self-regeneration is *** management of the reclamation efort is achieved by enforcement processes developed by the state and federal *** inspections of mining and reclamation operations and reviews of annual reports submitted by the operator help determine if the reclamation processes are occurring according to the permit plan.

Treatment of intermediate-risk prostate cancer with active surveillance in the routine care—Long-term outcomes of a prospective noninterventional study(HAROW)

Background:We report here the long-term outcomes of patients with intermediate-risk prostate cancer(PCa)treated with active surveillance(AS)in a daily routine *** andmethods:HAROW(2008–2013)was a noninterventional,health service research study investigating themanagement of localized PCa in a community setting.A substantial proportion of the study centers were office-based urologists.A follow-up examination of all intermediate-risk patients with AS was ***,cancer-specific,metastasis-free,and treatment-free survival rates,as well as reasons for discontinuation,were determined and ***:Of the 2957 patients enrolled,52 with intermediate-risk PCa were managed with AS and were available for *** median follow-up was 6.8 years(interquartile range,3.4–8.6 years).Seven patients(13.5%)died of causes unrelated to PCa,of whom 4 were under AS or under watchful *** patients(3.8%)developed *** estimated 8-year overall,cancer-specific,metastasis-free,and treatment-free survival rates were 85%(95%confidence interval[CI],72%–96%),100%,93%(95%CI,82%–100%),and 31%(95%CI,17%–45%),*** analysis,prostate-specific antigen density of≥0.2 ng/mL2 was significantly predictive of receiving invasive treatment(hazard ratio,3.29;p=0.006).Reasons for discontinuation were more often due to patient's or physician's concerns(36%)than due to observed clinical ***:Although survival outcome data for intermediate-risk patients managed with AS in real-life health care conditions were promising,rates of discontinuation were high,and discontinuation was often a patient's decision,even when the signs of disease progression were *** might be an indication of higher levels of mental burden and anxiety in this specific subgroup of patients,which should be considered when making treatment *** a psychological perspective,not all intermediate-risk patients are optimal candidates for A

Construction Project Forecasting ＂Practical Use of EV Metrics＂

During this professional research--Construction Project Forecasting （Practical Use of EV Metrics）, which criticize earned value management as a most distinguished methodology for forecasting the project expected end dates and expecting budget at completion, the field for the research is construction field and specially the projects which content different phases without repetitive tasks. Forecasting for construction project is a complicated process need more than applying one equation only. As assuming that, project performance during finishing stage will be similar to project performance during concrete stage is totally wrong. The case study techniques have been used to prove an important idea and also to implement a suggested protocol which actually implemented and tested and it should be considered as a research finding. The project used in this case study is ＂Hurgadah Intemational Airport--New Terminal Building＂, while executing this complex construction projects with different stages the forecasting for the project end date and final end budget were completely not realistic. The above leads to questioning the next：＂Is it true that using the earned value indexes for forecasting construction projects end date and final budget is the right way？ And if not, what is the right process that should be used in order to reach acceptable forecasting method？＂ We implement the EV measurements by the normal technique and also implement in the same month the suggested protocol for forecasting, comparing the results proof the effectiveness of the suggested protocol. The findings prove that, the construction projects need special treatment when use the EVM for forecasting. An Approach for Cost-Efficient Grid Integration of Distributed Renewable Energy Sources

We describe a specific approach to capacity man a ge ment for distribution grids. Based on simulations, it has been found that by curtailing a maximum of 5% of the yearly energy production on a per-generator basis, distribution grid connection capacity can be doubled. We also present the setting and fi rst results of a fi eld test for validating the approach in a rural distribution grid in northern Germany.
