Although human-induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes(hi PSC-CMs) have been used for disease modeling and drug discovery, clinically relevant three-dimensional(3D) functional myocardial microtissues are lacking. Here, we developed a novel ring-shaped cardiac microtissue comprised of chamber-specific tissues to achieve a geometrically non-orientable ventricular myocardial band, similar to a M?bius loop. The ring-shaped cardiac tissue was constructed of hi PSC-CMs and human cardiac fibroblasts(h CFs) through a facile cellular self-assembly approach. It exhibited basic anatomical structure,positive cardiac troponin T(c Tn T) immunostaining, regular calcium transients, and cardiac-like mechanical strength. The cardiac rings can be self-assembled and scaled up into various sizes with outstanding stability, suggesting their potential for precise therapy, pathophysiological investigation, and large-scale drug screening.

Reproductive height determines the loss of clonal grasses with nitrogen enrichment in a temperate grassland

Tall clonal grasses commonly display competitive advantages with nitrogen(N)***,it is currently unknown whether the height is derived from the vegetative or reproductive ***,it is unclear whether the height of the vegetative or reproductive system regulates the probability of extinction and colonization,and determines species *** this study,the impacts on clonal grasses were studied in a field experiment employing two frequencies(twice a year ***)crossing with nine N addition rates in a temperate grassland,*** found that the N addition decreased species frequency and increased extinction probability,but did not change the species colonization probability.A low frequency of N addition decreased species frequency and colonization probability,but increased extinction ***,we found that species reproductive height was the best index to predict the extinction probability of clonal grasses in N-enriched *** low frequency of N addition may overestimate the negative effect from N deposition on clonal grass diversity,suggesting that a higher frequency of N addition is more suitable in assessing the ecological effects of N ***,this study illustrates that reproductive height was associated with the clonal species extinction probability under N-enriched environment.

Background Despite its prevalence, there is ongoing debate regarding the optimal management strategy for chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH), reflecting the variability in clinical presentation and treatment outcomes. This ambidirectional, nationwide, multicenter registry study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of multimodality treatment approaches for CSDH in the Chinese ***/design A multicenter cohort of CSDH patients from 59 participating hospitals in mainland China was enrolled in this study. The treatment modalities encompassed a range of options and baseline demographics, clinical characteristics, radiographic findings, and surgical techniques were documented. Clinical outcomes, including hematoma resolution, recurrence rates, neurological status, and complications, were assessed at regular intervals during treatment, 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, and 2.years *** Between March 2.2. and August 2.2., a comprehensive cohort comprising 2.73 individuals who met the criterion was assembled across 59 participating clinical sites. Of those patients, 81.1% were male, exhibiting an average age of 70.12.± 14.53 years. A historical record of trauma was documented in 48.0% of cases, while headache constituted the predominant clinical presentation in 58.1% of patients. The foremost surgical modality employed was the burr hole (61.3%), with conservative management accounting for 2..6% of cases. Notably, a favorable clinical prognosis was observed in 88.9% of CSDH patients at 3 months, and the recurrence rate was found to be 2.4%.Conclusion This registry study provides critical insights into the multimodality treatment of CSDH in China, offering a foundation for advancing clinical practices, optimizing patient management, and ultimately, improving the quality of life for individuals suffering from this challenging neurosurgical *** registration ChiCTR2.00057179

Super-Resolution Using Enhanced U-Net for Brain MRI Images

Super-resolution is an important technique in image processing. It overcomes some hardware limitations failing to get high-resolution image. After machine learning gets involved, the super-resolution technique gets more efficient in improving the image quality. In this work, we applied super-resolution to the brain MRI images by proposing an enhanced U-Net. Firstly, we used U-Net to realize super-resolution on brain Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI). Secondly, we expanded the functionality of U-Net to the MRI with different contrasts by edge-to-edge training. Finally, we adopted transfer learning and employed convolutional kernel loss function to improve the performance of the U-Net. Experimental results have shown the superiority of the proposed method, e.g., the resolution on rate was boosted from 81.49% by U-Net to 94.2.% by our edge-to-edge training.
